Valve Software thoughts on the PS3..

Anyone remeber when Valve totally trashed the PS3.. In another thread some people did not realize EA is porting the game for Valve to the PS3.. The Fast Food of Gaming is porting this game.. I shudder to think how that game will turn out for the PS3..

Here is a little tid bit of those very statements

Co-founder of the legendary Valve Corporation (Half-Life, Steam), Gabe Newell has revealed his PlayStation 3 thoughts to Game Informer magazine, and it makes for some pretty grim reading for all those beleaguered fans of Sony's hard-pressed next-gen console-not to mention Sony's PR, which must be suffering from severe industry deflation.

"The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think it's really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted," began Newell while sharpening his claws. "I'd say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a 'do over'. Just say, 'This was a horrible disaster and we're sorry and we're going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it.'"

Anyway, this pretty much ensures Valve isnt gonna develop any ps3 games anytime soon.

Thats pretty old, A disaster would be 360 in Japan. PSP and PS3 are actually being quite sucessful. Wii and DS are really dominating the market. 360 is just trying to coexist with the rest.

Sony made some major mistakes and still is making some major mistakes...
releasing a new sku , still with no rumble. And then delaying rumble for NA/EU till spring 08! After its 2 biggest titles come out (MGS4, Little Big Planet). They even delayed HOME, its online service to rival Live, after its two biggest online games come out ( Unreal Tournament 3 and MGS4). They didn't give the developers enough tools to use alot of the power of the PS3( just like last gen).

I'm glad you have your own opinion.

I, personally, would rather wait a couple years before buying my console when it has tons of games and costs around 200 - 300 dollars. (that's what i did with ps2) I also want a console that lasts for years and years as a viable console, and PS3 looks like the best choice as far as that goes. Plus I am forced to buy one for the Team ICO game and GOW3....

Were not waiting Anymore n_n We already got a lot of quality games to play (Motorstorm,Resistance,Genji ,Oblivion,R6V,NGS,WARHAWK,HS)and correct me if Im wrong 360 owners had to wait for Gears of war , Forza and Halo3 right?

Its ok to give a reasonable time to the 360 to build up itself with good games but its not acceptable to give time to the Ps3 , how's that?

I said if the PS3 dropped to 299.00 and actually proved itself as a gaming platform.. I would buy one!!.. Till thne I prefer to stick with the 360..It has games.. and great multiplayer support!

My PS2 broke a couple months ago too.

The 360 did not release any of the big franchises at launch like they did for the original Xbox when Halo came out.. Sorry that does not pan.

Gears of War= system seller.
Halo 3= 170 million copies in one year.

Whats hard to understand..screw the launch release you have over 7 million people with 360s, and alot of people buying more because of those games. What doesn't pan?

Halo wasn't even that big of a factor that year, next to Metorid PRime, MGS2, FFX, DMC, GT3, GTAIII. Although it was a great exclusive.

Oh come on Gabe. Stop being a big baby. Vavle needs to either learn the new tech or never make a PS3 game in the future. I'm sure they will choose the latter.

Would Valve's hardware deal with ATI Chipsets have anything to do with Gabe's bias toward the Xbox 360 (360 uses ATI chipset)...

If EA are porting it, then I can only wait and hope. I was certain that I was going to get this for the PS3, but now I'm not so sure...

Well, I'm with you then, I will play my PC until I buy my PS3. I on the other hand don't see anything wrong with waiting for a console to hit it's stride. Haven't you people ever heard of the saying "Good things come to those who wait" or "patience is a vurtue" ?

AT the same time I laugh at the cows who try to compare PS3s current offerings to the 360, because 360 is clearly better right now. But I see most cows saying that next year and the year after is when PS3 becomes nonsucky.

My point was PS3 will probably be selling alot better when it gets it's games and the price drops to 200-300 dollars. How long that takes determines how many people sony will lose to the Wii and 360. I see PS3 selling the most out of the 3 though (in the long run).

I found this article rather funny. This is nothing new. Lots of developers have panned the PS3.. Many of them just saying it was a pain in the butt to develop games for. Developers need to make money. Spending tedious amounts of time developing for a console that has 1/2 the userbase as it's rivals console which is 10 times easier to develop for..

It is why the 360 is and will continue to get games and they play better on the 360.

the team that is working on the port are not that bad......... EA UK made Burnout Dominator for the PS2 (which looked and played Great for a PS2 title) and I'm sure they work closely with Criterion (Black, Burnout 5) since they both work for EA and are in the UK.......

its not like this is EA Tiburon (madden team)... their UK studios are pretty good....

You are wrong. Within 4 months of launch (March 2006) Xbox 360 had Oblivion and GRAW and Oblivion sold more on the Xbox 360 than in the PC.

I frigging hate Gabe Newell and Valve. They made some great games, but they need to shut the hell up with bashing the consoles. All of them. Banging out about 1 game a year is one thing, engineering a system that plays them is another.

Gears was out within 11 months of launch.. What has Sony produced within the same time frame? MS has put out games consistently all the way through its cycle.

PDZ, Gears of War, Forza 2, Halo 3, Now Mass Effect. Bioshock now.. LOL What has Sony done for you cows that you keep supporting it?

Maybe they can do like devs do with 360. They can lower the resolution and quality of the image so that the 360 can run it at a smooth frame rate.

Warning random thoughts ahead:

What we should remember is that valve are first are foremost a PC developer, therefore anything that doesn't go along with the PC mentality of doing things there not going to like, it's just what there used to.

While it is well known the ps3 is difficult to program for, I've yet to see anyone who said it was worse than on the ps2.

Valve won't like the ps3 simply because it is not like a PC, that isn't a knock against valve it's just that it's what there used to.
