[QUOTE="lx_theo"][QUOTE="Kaze_no_Mirai"]Team ICO easily. Their games are good but nowhere near Valve's quality not to mention it takes them too damn long to release anything.Arach666
Shadow of the Colossus is easily better than anything Valve has released.

It really isn´t.

SotC is my favorite game of all time. Valve games are good, but generally vastly overrated.

Sony will make sure TLG is done no matter what, Valve couldn't care less and don't have any superior to make them do HL3.

Gotta be Team Ico. They've missed an entire generation for crying out loud.

Shadow of the Colossus is one of my favorite games of all time and I very much disagree. It, as a game, is often "vastly overrated", to use your phraseology. As a game it lacks a lot of content. It is pretty much summed up as 16 boss fights, which are essentially puzzles. It doesn't have any really substantial content beyond those boss fights, and while it is an amazing experience, as a game, it doesn't stack up against other games, including VALVe's offerings, which (besides HL2) offer substantially more in terms of gameplay and interactivity. Portal 2 is by and large VALVe's best game this generation, and sorely crushes SOTC into the ground in practically all areas (besides the subjective ones). This is to not even speak of HL2 Ep 1/2, DoDS, CSS, TF2, L4D, L4D2, Portal and others. Team ICO is still riding on a last generation success... almost 7 years into this generation. It's about damn time they release a game already if they even want to be considered a relevant developer, let alone a "good" one.

Zeviander, I love your sig with a black background. Just a suggestion, you should try to blend in the sides.

Besides the technical aspects (wich is unfair to compare being that one is from a past gen and the other is from the current one), arent all the other aspects subjective? Cause I've played both Portals and, besides the goofy humour, I didnt find it that good really. The empty scenarios and accessible puzzles grew up tiresome really. I dont have any memorable moment from portal games that will stuck with me for the rest of my life while I can still remember EVERY colossus from SotC like the palm of my hand... SotC is way more memorable experience then any portal (or any Valve game for the matter) for me thus its a better game for me. All, besides the technical aspects (that, as I said, its unfair to compare), its subjective really

Like said above, all aspects other than the technical ones are subjective. Portal 2 was very good for me. I enjoyed it a lot, but when it came down to it... It was just a one play through game. I've played SotC through many more times. Honestly, in the game, there were two things that stood out to me as a ton better than most of the industry. That was the character of Wheatley/humor in game and the end to Portal 2. SotC had immersion, epic moments, story telling, boss battles, story, ending, and a number of other things that - as far as I'm concerned - stood head and shoulders over the competition.

I was only ever commenting about the technical aspects (which is why I added that clarification). To me, while Shadow was more enjoyable, it was a much rougher experience. Those things you list I find ironic, because nothing other than the boss battles had to do with the gameplay, what I am going on about between the difference between TICO and VALVe. TF2 (and for me, DoDS) were shooter gameplay perfected. Everything was balanced and exceptionally well-designed. With SOTC, all it had was a number of neat bosses and an empty world. Even the gameplay in Shadow was questionably polished. The camera was garbage, the controls weren't responsive (despite it adding "empathy" to Wander's struggle) and there really wasn't much beyond solving the 16 puzzles for the non-obsessive fan to do. But this comparison was between Team ICO and VALVe as developers, not their games, and we are going significantly off topic. Team ICO has not released a game this gen, I'm not sure why you would even begin to think of them as a better game developer (rather than artists, which I think is where your arguments stem from, and is entirely different) than VALVe, a developer who has not only raided a plethora of quality games, but almost revolutionized the digital gaming industry on PC in the same amount of time as TICO has released a theatrical trailer for their unfinished game.

Well, better release great games over time then something half baked and or dissapointing.

They're different and great for different reasons. I will say that Team Ico tell far, far better stories for most of the part then Valve - despite them effectively defining how games are often told in videogames in over ten years.

You have to cut Valve some slack. They have the excuse of managing Steam which is a much bigger job than just making games.

Anyone saying Valve needs to get their head checked.

I don't see how this could be up for debate. Team Ico have produced nothing this generation. Valve have been releasing high-quality games almost every year of this generation. Also, Valve has mastered the art of not hinting at things until they're ready. Team Ico released a trailer three years ago and then...nothing. So, unless someone has some sort of amazing argument to the contrary (which is never going to happen in modern-day System Wars), Team Ico 'wins' by a long, -long- way.

Team ICO. Valve has made multiple games this gen. From the looks of it, Team ICO is going to sit this generation out.

Yeah, because wanting a game developer to release games is insane! Derp.

I don't see how your statement makes sense given his answer.

[QUOTE="4dr1el"]

[QUOTE="MBirdy88"] You climb up a bunch of friggin golems, whoa , it was amusing for about an hour, compared to what the Half-Life Franchise, the world renouned Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, Portal, Steam and now DoTA 2. Yea no..... glad im not in your "reality".Shrabsters

You shoot through aliens or hit'em with a crowbar, whoa, it was amusing for about 5 min.

You shoot portals to white walls, whoa, it was amusing for about 30 min.

You shoot other people online, whoa, it was amusing for a few hours.

See? I can simplify whole games with minimalistic aproach too

yes, Valve games have more replayability but that not automatically means they're better. I only beat SotC twice and its experience was more unique then any valve game I've ever played EVEN if Valve games lasted me longer. SotC is my fav game ever. Not even one valve game is on my top 25 of all time.

I think it depends on a persons definition of replay value. If game has to keep offering new things to keep you interested, is that really replay value? I've beaten SotC around 30 times, still not bored of that game. Hell, I've beaten MGS3 at least 60+ and not bored of it either

I think people like you that can play a single player game 30-60 times that never changes have a case of OCD or some other mild mental disease. Did that cross a line? probably. but I thought only toddlers like putting the blocks i nthe same holes over and over. j/k... to some extend :P
