Vanquish one year anniversary thread - still da best

Yes sir, 'twas one year ago that this little unknown shooter by the name of Vanquish released and stunned the masses. It took the standard 3rd person shooter gameplay at the time and ran with it in all sorts of new and exciting directions, and became the legendary epic masterpiece of epic proportions that we all know and love today. Yep, exactly 365.242199 days later and the game has not aged one bit, and still continues to be the golden standard of the cover shooter genre that all others are judged by. It's good to be the king 8)

Let us discuss how this whimsical masterpiece of chaos entered our hearts and minds and changed us for the better. How it laid waste to every other popular shooter in the known universe. How it's still the best.

I was considering purchasing this if I can get it cheap enoug. What's it worth, honestly?

For one of the most fast paced, instense, explosive, action packed, and flawless shooters of all time? Priceless, imo. At it's current price it's a steal.

If it weren't for you I would have fogotten what Vanquish is

Man that game was aweome. I'd like a longer sequel as soon as possible.

Yeah, that was my thinking. Quick blast through the single player, never touch it again, then flog it online for the same price.

Free rent essentially. It doesn't look like I'd be playing theough the single player multiple times.

And considering that I hate Japanese games that have a skewed Western image of "cool" (i.e. lead characters having low, drawly voices with cigarettes hanging out of their mouths half the time), does it get annoying at all?

IMO it had the best gameplay from all TPS but the entire story and the characters are forgetable and it lacked content

I left Vanquish at Challenge 6. Dam boy, Round4 is haaaard.

I kind of feel bad for Gears 3 and Uncharted 3 to be honest. Undoubtedly the developers poured their hearts and souls into those games, but in the end, they will only be playing third fiddle to Vanquish. You just can't beat inspired perfection. Now just give us Vanquish 2!

Game isn't worth more than 10 dollars. Short, non existent story, lame characters, lame VA, sub par visuals, recycles alot like DMC, lame weapons and average gameplay.

Yep. It's much more original than all those games. And the amount of skill it takes is god like. Those other games are kiddy s*** compared to the s*** you have to pull off in the Challenges for example.

I just don't get it, I have gears and this, and Vanquish is better imo.

Is it because it doesn't have multiplayer. Because some I speak to don't even play gears for single player.

Vanquish aged immensely the graphics and animations are "meh" now. Plus Vanquish doesn't have moving trains or crashing airplanes, so it's mediocre IMO. It was beat before it even came out by Uncharted 2 anyways.

Actually it might be cause of you I gave it a chance. I had it but didn't play it much, then I read some people here praising it (can't remember who) and I loved it.

EDIT: Oh and I like the story, for once a game story got me interested, and at the end, I just wanted more of everything.

I regretted dishing out 60 euros for this. Make no mistake, I loved the game, and I agree it's propably the best TPS released this gen. But it had only an 8 horu campaign, and despite the awsome set pieces and the epic boss fights, it was still just that...and 8 horu campaign, with nothing else to justify the 60 euros I spent on it. 8 hours well spent, but only 8 hours =/= 60 euros to me. Simply put, it didn't have enough replay value to make a splash in the genre.

Vanquish recieved tons 'o love. You have to remember that SW is just a small community primarily consisting of people who are attracted to overblown and overhyped blockbuster titles.

So you only played through it once?? :o You're doing Vanquish wrong! :x It's one of those few games that makes sense trying to get all the chievements and trophies because the game is supposed to be played over and over again until you are basically flawless.

Is it not possible for two people to love the same game? I guess that makes NeonNinja, Some Mist, Foxhound, BPoole, etc my alts as well, since they're big fans of Vanquish. No, it's not true.
