Just wondering, how many hours did you put into Vanquish, MasterShake?

Hm, I played through it about 10 times (a few of those playthroughs were on other people's accounts who wanted me to get them a certain trophy and they were paying me) and taking into consideration all the time I spent perfecting my completion times on the challenges... probably around 100 hours.
Hands down, Vanquish is the best third person shooter this gen. It has it all: gameplay, style, speed, replayability, difficulty, and always provides an adrenaline rush. People who complain about the story and characters are doing it wrong, because like old school games, it's about playing over and over again, and trying to get better. It's just too bad that Vanquish has flown under the radar of most 360/ps3 owners, because it's really a great game all around, and, personally, it killed a huge chunk of my love for Gears.

I agree. People moaning about the stories and characters seem to have completely missed the point; it's meant to be a parody on games like Halo. It hardly ever takes itself seriously and at one point Sam even says "this is like being in a cheesy video game" and mocks it. Take it with a pinch of salt and enjoy it, it's not meant to be TEH HARDC0R31!!!!1!1!!
Yes sir, 'twas one year ago that this little unknown shooter by the name of Vanquish released and stunned the masses. It took the standard 3rd person shooter gameplay at the time and ran with it in all sorts of new and exciting directions, and became the legendary epic masterpiece of epic proportions that we all know and love today. Yep, exactly 365.242199 days later and the game has not aged one bit, and still continues to be the golden standard of the cover shooter genre that all others are judged by. It's good to be the king 8)
Let us discuss how this whimsical masterpiece of chaos entered our hearts and minds and changed us for the better. How it laid waste to every other popular shooter in the known universe. How it's still the best.
A good game that was well worth the 20 bucks I spent on it. However the love it gets from the internet crowd is putting it on a fast track for overrated town. The dialogue and story suck, the gameplay is basically 'Lost planet + rockets' (shoot the glowy orange weak spot of bosses and enemies!). I just wish the game lasted more than 6 or 7 hours.
I notice on several message boards there's a hipster gamer culture that seems to be growing. Games that are niche and especially from japan are held in high regard no matter how inferior they may be. Vanquish does nothing from a standard TPS. Congrats you can slide and slow-mo where haven't I seen that before platinum? It plays like a slightly better lost planet with slow mo, but that makes it the best TPS because it's niche and teh japanese! Let's forget how terrible the level design is, how repetitive the game is, how much recycling the game does and how lame and limited the weapons are.
Vanquish had great core gameplay that was put to waste. It cashes in on its formula too soon, and all you're left with is a monotone, uninspiring experience.
too bad the masses don't care for it. The game was simply pushed underneath the rug. Gears of War is so much better and for good reason. Maybe MAYBE if vanquish had actual character developement, better story and didn't have such mediocre level designs...it could have been something.

To me, if it's fun, it's fun. Repetitive enemies mean zilch to me as long as I have fun killing them every time, and in Vanquish, doing so while increasing the challenge and improving my play. Then again, my favorite game of all time is Streets of Rage 2, so maybe Vanquish is just more up my ally than to others.

I like the hipster idea more. It sounds more simple and System Wars-esque.

Nope, but rating niche or unpopular games all the time to the high heavens does. I see certain people in this thread who have done that on a constant basis.
Sliding around in Arkham City reminded me of Vanquish. I nostalgia'd. And yes, best TPS (in terms of gameplay) this gen. Shame it had no art style and really derivative level design. Those mechanics I think would have made for a better TP-Action-Adventure.

It's was a GOTY candidate just like many other games that were "on top."

have this guy review it again...it won't get a 9. after seeing through the fancy slide boosting, Vanquish offers VERY LITTLE quality else where. Like many things, the idea appears good at first and works well..but it doesn't hold. That's vanquish. Unless they decide to put extra effort and ditching the mentality of having it a be a shallow game with 1 cool mechanic..it won't get any better, especially to the masses. It's underrated for a reason. We all like to give the underdogs credit..but if it lacks overall quality..it simply lacks it..no matter how good 1 thing can be, it needs the TOTAL package. IMO.

and trust me, being a huge mikami fan I was rooting for this game too.
