Max payne 3 for me, best TPS on consoles as far as i am concerned, amazing story, amazing gunplay, the weapons feel as if they have real weight and punch and it's as griity and dark a game as they come and great visuals to boot.
They have a different take on TPS, and both succeed in what they are trying to do, but I'd go with Max Payne 3. The gunplay is just too great, and Max is amazing.
I was disappointed with Max Payne 3 and still prefer it over Vanquish. I don't get why people like that game. I loved how smooth the movements were and the speed of the game but it grew old quick. All it was is shoot, cover, shoot, slide, smoke, repeat. Story was pathetic, the game graphis got old since they never changed, and the Lost Planet shoot the orange on every boss is overdone. There is a reason it dropped to $20 in a month. It is an average game at best. But to be fair Mx Payne 3 isn't much better.

It sound better than shoot, shoot, shoot, cover, shoot, shoot, repeat ate least (basing on the fact MP3 has cover now but both MP1 and 2 were just shoot and nothing more). Point is, you can simplify every game out there... Vanquish felt more varied gameplay wise then all the others PURE TPS I've ever played. The sliding option gave it a fast paced gameplay that I've seen in no other game out there. Very arcady but fun to play nonetheless. MP3 gameplay physics look too realistic and cluncky to me to ever consider its gameplay to be better then Vanquish... but I'll see when I play it
and you people are giving too much emphasis on story. Vanquish was never about story
For the fun of it I just downloaded and played Vanquish again since I can complare it to Max Payne 3. Yep. I am sure of it. Max Payne 3 is worlds better. Vanquish deserved to be a bargain bin title a month after it was released and that is exactly what happened. It is a rental at best.
I loved both and both far exceeded my expectations, though I'll give the moral victory to Vanquish for Platinum Games for being the underdogs, as for Max Payne 3 it's not really surprising that Rockstar made another hit.
I have yet to play MP3. I might get at a price drop as it looks like a Rockstar game that actually has consistently fun gameplay. Vanquish was awesome, though, just so much over the top, ridiculous nonsense, but so much fun.
Vanquish throws a grenade, boost kicks MP3 in the face, then on the way down shoots the grenade and then switches to shotgun to thoroughly obliterate the face off of MP3.
