Xbox is the definitive way to play Black Ops anyways, so nothing of value was really lost.

I don't believe Activision would pass up the opportunity to sell over priced map packs just because the multiplayer has been hacked to heaven and back.

[QUOTE="killzonexbox"]

Recently, it was stated by an Activision spoke person that they might be considering shutting down the PlayStation Network servers for the popular game Call of Duty: Black Ops. One big incentive for Activision to not shut down the servers is profit.

It's well known by now that Activision is focused on making a big profit. They have already made billions off of the Call of Duty series across all platforms, and if they were to shut down the PS3 servers, they would be losing a lot of profits.

However, there is the possibility that Microsoft could be paying off Activision to shut down the PS3 servers so that the Xbox 360 can dominate the Call of Duty market.

I for one own Call of Duty: Black Ops for the Xbox 360. Reason why? I knew this would exactly happen, Activision treats the PlayStation 3 users like chattel, and they are nothing to them. If only Activision would get up and try to attempt to fix this issue, it would not be a problem but of course Activision thinks otherwise.

Everyone can blame the PlayStation 3 for this problem but people are jumping off the boat way too quick. Sony is still trying to fix the issue that has come across all of their consoles but seems that companies have given up on them which is sad to be honest. Sales for Black Ops would fly through the roof for the Xbox 360 because they would have the only stable and playable online version of the game. There is also the dispute that the Xbox 360 has already been hacked but due to having to pay for a fee online and that Microsoft bans consoles before major releases, it is an idea that Sony should look up to.

Sony has previously stated that it has the right to ban consoles at any given time for violating the Terms of Service of the PlayStation Network but it has not happened to a majority of the hackers. They probably do know a way on how to deal with the issue, but it is probably due to the fact that the issue will cost a lot of money to fix but it would be worth it if they did.

What are your thoughts on this? Should Activision abandon the PlayStation 3?

http://n4g.com/news/683017/activision-might-not-shut-down-the-playstation-3-servers-of-black-ops

EliteM0nk3y

That's called being anti-competitive, and that's going pretty far, even for Microsoft.

PS: I am talking about paying Activision to shut down the PSN servers, not the anit-competitve part (we know they do that, along with other companies)

going far for MS? No it isn't they have done it before on the PC a long time ago trying to get their products to dominate the market. I wouldn't even be surprised if MS payed Activision to shut down the PSN servers. That is a typical MS tactic.

Black Ops on PS3 has been having connection problems since the day it launched, way before the PS3 was cracked. Activision just doesn't want to take responsability for the poor job they did with the PS3 version of the game and is now using a scape goat that conveniently for them, showed up in the last few weeks. This should serve as a lesson for gamers out there. You support companies like Activision, elevating them almost to the level of Gods in the industry, and this is what you get in return. They won't bother giving proper support to their costumers because no matter what they do, almost everyone and their grandmothers will continue buying their games.

the backlash against this would be astronomical and could well hurt the CoD brand.

Instead of sayin oh we pull the server, why not just actually fix the netcode you incompetant lot.Thats half the reason the PS3 online is terrible on B ops.

Question:- So there are no COD:BO gamers playing online with pirated copies for 360 & PC versions ??

Back on topic, i highly doubt Activision will do it, cause there were many other gamers/fans who payed for the game (who are COD fans) and loosing these fans by making them angry would mean loosing money on future COD titles.. Unfortunately piracy is a huge problem :(

Wouldn't surprise me if this was just an attempt to try and stop the complaints coming in.Kind of a "stop moaning or we'll cut the servers" threat.

Very poor customer service.

I don't get it. People are having connection problems, so they're thinking of fixing it by shutting down the servers altogether? Am I missing something? :?

Teufelhuhn
Thing is WHAT connection PROBLEMS?> I have no trouble on the PS3 at all. You know what it maybe people not knowing or caring enough to setup their router correctly......... COD is funny over the Nat Type thing! Hmm Not only that i set my DNS Servers to a free DNS thats readily and widely used by gamers i then started to experience SEVER problem with connecting to games. Say one game after 15 attempts then a DC during the game. I changed back to BT DNS Server thingys and low and behold the problem was gone. Maybe this guys are Tech savvy and are using that so called better free DNS servers available on the net. If so it could be something they forget to adjust. No i dont know much about stuff like this and this is my experience. I hate Networking to be fair.

Cod gives a NAT problem that appears out of the blue, I remember I couldn't play MW2 online anymore when January 2010 hit. It kept hanging at fetching playlist... every so often it would work but most of the time it would just hang. I also used multiple DNS servers even some of those provided by google. All my games work fine, even black ops! But I still cannot connect to MW2 to this day!

I'm slightly confused. Whats wrong with the online servers? Their solution to buggy servers being to just not have any? That makes no sense...

sounds to me like the customer service bloke just lost his rag and started mouthing off without putting his brain in gear, COD BO sold well on the Ps3 so i don't see them shutting down the servers in all honesty, activision cares more about money than customer complaints, if they shut down the servers PS3 owners won't buy future COD games, activision loses money.

IF this really happens(doubt it) the only reasons I can think of why is thanks to that dude who was intereviewed recentlywho hacked the ps3 this is what happens. Even though he said he didint mean it to have negative effects. The other reason being MS and activison are hardcore BB.

iAtrocious

I like how you brought MS into a completely unrelated topic.

MS is related, they're asking the people upset with the online activity to trade in their game for a "different platform"...i.e. "Xbox 360"

We should be able sue activition because they advertised it to have online play n that's one of reason why we bought the game . Hey if they shut it down then there will be a class action lawsuit.

Thing is to play COD online you have to set the PS3 onto a Static IP address and Enable DMZ mode. This will result in a Nat Type 0 which should resolve your issues. Its a pain but i actually think this is largely the problem many people encounter. Recently i achieved all of this and since then i have been able to play COD with my freinds all of them. Before only 1 or 2 could join me.

TC do you really think that's going to happen??? Then what would crappy do about all that lost revenue, no over priced map packs to make millions off... And you might as well not even release any future installments because that would be giving the finger to a large portion of why you have the number 1 selling game of all time... Expect to see some back pedaling from crappy on this later this week...

That's my point there's no way in hell that crappy would even take a chance a losing any type of revenue. This was just a grumpy employee tired of hearing all the complaints about the game. So he decided to use some scare tactics to shut the guy up.

Just like I thought the comments were taken out of context, like they would really shut down the servers on millions of people.

But it does make the comments like PS3 is dying because of the hack or the alt account 'psnisdoomed' look even more silly, if that was even possible.

Baloney.

"We told you it was an absolute load of hog-wash. Treyarch's community manager, Josh Olin, has hit the Twitter airwaves to confirm the studio are committed to Call Of Duty: Black Ops on PlayStation 3.

Olin wrote: "PS3 servers comments were taken out of context. Treyarch's committed to supporting the PS3 community with some great updates on the way."

And that's the end of that chapter."

Well hopefully they learn from all this and actually give PS3 players a decent game next time around....not likely.

Played it last night and managed 1 full game out of 8 lobbies. Obviously dedicated servers must cost millions to run seeing as they've made how much money off this series and yet we still get stuck with p2p garbage

This sounds like something one guy said because the customer was being unreasonable. And the customer got back at him good by making his threat public. I doubt that this happens but they could get away with it if they feel like it.

Why would anyone have ever believed this? O.o Of course they aren't going to completely shut the PSN servers down when many people are enjoying the game, and paying for the DLC.

Hello and thank you for contacting Activision Technical Support.

Fortunately, that was just a misunderstanding and a quote from one of our representatives was taken out of context and created a lot of confusion. We can assure you that the Call of Duty: Black Ops servers are not being shut down, and this is a false alarm. We are sorry for any inconvenience or unnecessary worries this may have caused, but as of now, there are absolutely no plans for the servers to be taken down.

Thank you for contacting us, and please feel free to contact us again at 1-800-225-6588 if you have any other problems. We are open 7 days a week from 7 AM to 7 PM PST, or you can visit our website at http://activision.custhelp.com for more troubleshooting tips.
