VG247: Xbox One Price Cut 'Middle Finger' To Early Adopters

I don't understand why cutting the price of the X1 constitutes giving the "middle finger" to early adopters. Price cuts for new consoles are an inevitability. No console has ever retained its original asking price. Using previous gens as a guide, price cuts usually start occurring after the first year. M$, out of necessity, has just decided to do it a little early this gen, that's all.

I've done my share of M$ bashing here, but let's face facts. What else is M$ supposed to do? They're on the bow of the Titanic, and the ice berg is in sight. If they don't move quickly & decisively, all will be lost. And, contrary to the article in the OP, price cuts are always great for consumers (including those who adopt the system early) because doing so usually increases the system's installed base. Anyone who honestly interprets a price cut as an obscene gesture directed at them should seriously reconsider ever adopting a console early in its development again.

I enjoy seeing the XBox pushed to sea and burned, yes. I enjoy the fact that the PS4 is a gamer-centric system in a generation where gamers were supposed to be an after-thought, yes. Do I fall at the altar of Sony burning frankincense and mihr while worshipping Kaz Hirai as the once and future king of all that is gaming? No, I don't. All this "moo-genja" fuckery proves is that Lems pay so much attention to me owning their buttholes in XBox vs Playstation threads that they utterly ignore when I post in hermit threads and classic gaming threads (though, those are few and far between).

I'm some almighty Cow-God here by default, it seems. Common sense dictates you have to be an MS fanboy to be on a gaming forum proudly waving a green and white banner for a machine that tacitly admits that it does not put gaming first. I really dont see this as a bad thing at all, if you want something on launch day - you pay the (high)price like everything else and its always been that way(which is the risk of buying things on launch). Should i complain about everything i buy then (tv's, phones, yea you name it).. People knew the price before hand and bought it right away, and even with that kind of price you really should expect an price drop rather fast, thats how it goes in that buisness.. its not like its much anyway

I would buy it for $450 with free XBLG. With paid online, it is worth about $300 to me, but it probably won't still be worth that much by the time it actually reaches that price point.

Xbox, Xbox 360, Surface, and Windows Phone are all great products, and Microsoft continues to support all of them (or supported them when they were active) exceptionally.

Windows 8 is a confused product but at least they stick by it.

The Zune, in spite of being an absolute failure, was supported for five years.

This is only in the UK. No even if it were bundled here in NA for $499 it's not a price drop unless the non bundled consoles are $450. I wouldn't get the bundle anyway since I'm not going to play TF on the XOne. The bundle does me absolutly no good.

Windows Phones are a complete joke compared to the vastly superior Android Phones and Iphones. On top of an atrocious non functional UI, you have little app support coupled with boring ugly phone designs. My brothers WP didn't even have instagram until mid 2013.

The Orginial Xbox Console was a joke compared to the Playstation 4 in every single aspect sans graphics. Online is mute since most of my friends didn't have an Xbox.

Xbox 360, literally had two good games Reach and 4. Everything else was available on better platforms.

Windows 8 is an utter failure.

And the Surface? Just lol. Literally only useful for writing word documents. Everything my Ipad air does better, faster, and more functionally. Including my Xepria Z tablet (man I wish I didn't sell it).

u do know titanfall is bundled at 499 in us right? its confirmed. that ps4 price drop u are referring to was not done by sony, it was by gamestop to gain media attention. ps4 are still selling out constantly while x1 rotting away, 150k in 3rd month after release for a console thats not supply constrained is ridiculously poor. the drop off was similar to wiiu level, its not selling well at all hence the global bundling of its most anticipated game for 0 extra price and a price cut in uk.

Is the non game bundled XOne cheaper? If not then it's not on sale. The only thing different is it coming with TF for a short period of time. That's not a price drop.

my PS4 collects dust for me. And not because it isn't a good system, there is just nothing to play on it. And honestly thats fine and to be expected. Its not my 1st console launch that's why i get both. I'm not gonna trash sony for it. Also i have like 20 devices that play netflix in my house lol. Why would i care about the PS4 playing netflix? I use apple tv for that and its way better then the PS4 and X1 do. and it was a 100 dollar device. It also lets me mirror screens on my ipad/ipods/iphone. Which is great when using other apps. I can run HBO go on it as well, something the X1 and PS4 can't do. Point is who cares. IDK what you little whiny kids like to find these little things and complain about. You should get outside more. I'm sorry but for me to turn everything on when i get home without looking for a remote that who knows where my wife left it is awesome. also to see my kids say "xbox go to nick jr" is awesome and cute. To see my wife use xbox fitness while i play with the kids then she plays with them so i can have some gaming time. The xbox worked so well in my house that i just ordered a second one with the digital titanfall game. So since its digital i can have 2 people play on the one copy so when friends come over we can both play it, on the one digital copy. It wouldn't surprise me if i wind up with like 4-5 of them eventually. Maybe one day when you grow older you'll understand.

Edit: not to mention if the kids don't wanna get away from the TV to eat/shower/homework/bed time etc a simple "xbox turn off" does the trick

I doubt Microsoft will offer any ambassador esque program. I love my Xbox One but Microsoft has some of the worst PR in the industry, and their marketing is horrible.

They don't usually go down 3 months after release. This is unprecedented, fastest price drop ever. What a flop.

My biggest disappointment with this drop, is that it is actually Microsoft doing it, not some retailer offering a free game, or a gift card. I don't regret buying my Xbox One as I have really enjoyed using it, but it is very disappointing that people who decided to wait are getting one of the systems top games for free.

lol no. This is a sensationalist article. It's just a £30 cut and most of those early adopters in the UK got a game with their console like Fifa or Forza thrown in. In fact, even now you can still get a Fifa edition X1 for £429 (non 'Day One Edition').

As an early adopter, I don't mind, £30 is the sweet spot. I can see why they're doing it. If it was more than that I'd be mad, but not over a £30 cut 3 months later.
