@GarGx1: pretty sure it wasn't illegal. People just got so upset that ubisoft re activated any keys that had already activated the game and cancelled the rest of the fraudulently purchased keys

It's 'legal' in as much as a forced contract is 'legal' (EULA). There are very few End User Agreements that a good lawyer couldn't shoot down. The most basic being the fact you are forced to agree to their terms, after purchase, with no negotiation being possible. For them to be fully enforceable the EULA would need to be agreed to prior to purchase and not after.

Of course I'm not American, where the legal system is set up to protect those with the most money.

@GarGx1: that doesn't make it illegal. And in this case it had to do with fraudulently purchased items. They had the right to cancel it, and then the reseller would be responsible for refunding customers for selling a fraudulent product

Good more choices instead of being stuck with one crappy deal and there are plenty of legit ones never had any issue or even heard of a blacklist one

The chance of buying from a blacklist site is enough of a turn off. Plus a united ecosystem means a more organized service. All of my trophies, achievements, activities, friendlist and history are on one account. More option is not better in this instance.

What are you talking about the sites give you keys to activate on your steam account of course your achievement and everything will be on one account. Never heard of any blacklist site I buy where there are good ratings.

They first have to prove that the reseller was breaking the law in the their country of origin, where they bought the key. Remember, going back to the EULA, it's not agreed to until you start the installation of the game. Prior to that the buyer cannot be held to that agreement, regardless of how dubious it is even after agreeing to it.

Additionally the question remains of why Ubisoft would sell ,for instance, 3000 keys to a single entity and not question it. That, in turn, raises the question of whether they sold these keys as some kind of trap, in which case that would be a highly illegal step by Ubisoft (entrapment). They would essentially be selling a product that they planned to deactivate prior to the purchase and that's fraud. Ubisoft did not have a legal leg to stand on and they knew it. There's a good reason why neither EA or Activision (or any other publisher) have ever tried this.

Incognito thread.

I don't believe TC just got into PC gaming bc Origin actually isn't "to a lesser degree".

That's just bullshit from around the horn that stems from when Origin first launched. Origin is actually great.

I don't like EA games generally but speaking of Origin is different.

The Steam market alone puts PC ahead of consoles.

Not all games are available on Steam. Some are exclusive to other platforms such as Origin.

I only got 3 games on Origin, I never said it's a bad service, I just use it to a lesser degree than Steam. What's wrong with it?

The thing Consoles have is the used market, plus retail copies that can be traded between other people.

I don't think it means much if you save 10 or 20 bucks on either side, when one side has no other option to it.

I guess it depends on how much of a die hard fan you are to want everything now, or just play a few games over the year.

I almost hate STEAM for that.

I feel ya bro. It's one of the best parts of PC gaming, but also a detriment at times. Too many fucking games to play. Too many opportunities to get them on the cheap.

Between Steam deals and those random emails I get from GOG and GMG, it's tough to avoid loading up on good games.

Undoubtedly there are more deals on PC, especially for newer games through sites such as GMG... Though i've still seen a couple games go on sale on console before the PC version -- after release, so not including GMG.

Consoles, along with their games and accessorues, increase in value for the most part.

lol what? The opposite is true man. Most of those things depreciate in value big time lol. Unless you have something very unique, or a full collection of every game and accessory to hit a platform (even then it depends on the platform), you're going to come up way short on your initial investment.

I'm not denying that you can cash in big on what you have. At one point I owned at least one of every console from the 2600 on up and a shit ton of games and accessories. When I sold it all I came out with a nice stack. But did I come out with what the stuff was originally worth, or better? Haha, **** no man, not even close. At best I probably averaged about 20%-25% of what all that stuff was originally worth.

Cheapshark is my fav. Has all the major DD storefronts and top deals. Also allows you to set price notifications and get an email when game reaches that price point. Got an email the other day that Arkham Knight is only $19.99. Love PC.

Isn't that kinda how they get you though. Most PC gamers I know have a ridiculous back log of games that most likely they will never get to, but they say they just had to get it cause it was so damn cheap. In the end you have racked up a pretty good total and end up with so many games that you can't possibly ever get to them all.

I think the real issue is that both Ps4 and Xbox One are too similar in what they offer and also share most of their games with Pc. The last and current generation blurred the line between Pc and console gaming, with the exception of Nintendo still trying to deliver a console experience, but struggling to make an impact on the market.

@ConanTheStoner:

I don't know. Most 64 games fetch 40 dollars. They cost $60 20 years ago, but a 20oz bottle of Soda also went for 60 to 80 cents. Look up prices. I think you might be surprised.

@GamingTitan:

I see your point, but most gamers who hoard games are gonna spend that money regardless of how much time they have to play. Same goes with car or gun collectors. Collecting becomes a game in itself, like Pokemon but with games instead of innocent animals. I have way more games since focusing on PC as my primary platform around 2011 and I've spent less to get them than when I was playing primarily on 360 and Wii.

I never used "but", I don't see what you're getting at. I use 3 services which include Steam AND to a lesser extent Origin and I also have uPlay, for your info. I just have more games on Steam, that's all (and at times also use it to play non-Steam games, which is convenient.)

I do know that deals are to be found on other services other than Steam, too.

That's why I only bought a Wii U and skipped Ps4/Xbox One for now; not enought exclusives to justify buying either.

Didn't say there hasn't been any illegal acquisition of CD keys and EA hasn't tried to ban every key sold by all resellers like Ubisoft tried to do.

There is quite a bit of flexibility in regards to the physical console market and the PC digital market. Prices will vary based on location, patience, research, etc. Digital console market is horridly priced and inflexible however. Even during the recent PS plus sale I found most of their deals at the same price at my local gamestop. I've read about some console owners going digital only with their consoles and I just can't understand why with those kind of prices,

I just opened Steam and I see this game at 8,49€, whereas the Wii version ranges between 20/30 €.

The PC deals are very good at times, but from my experience it's usually only on older games. Every now and then you can get a few bucks off of a new title, but on Steam Sales for example, you won't get much more than 10% off on new games. There are good console deals to be had, you just have to look for them in different way. Target and Best Buy do a buy 2 get 1 free deal a couple of times a year. Best Buy has the GCU which gets you new games for $48. Also I am a Best Buy Elite Plus Rewards member and I get hundreds of dollars in gift certificates each year not to mention my credit card rewards that also get me Best Buy gift cards.

Steam sales were much more appealing when I stated building my library. But now that I have most of the older games I wanted, the Steam sales have been pretty meh.

Also this...........I don't buy many console games full retail price at launch. Not that expensive really.

i agree the steam sales were more exciting when your building your library.. however you forgot about G2A or kingwin. you get great deals on games year round.I personally have used both of them and have been impress by the deals

I'm not hating on consoles, I know they're relevant, convenient and all, I won't deny aspects such as:

  • Optimized games to work on the specific hardware
  • It's easy to move and connect a console from room to room or to a different place
  • Exclusive games that often define each console's best quality titles

But, I happen to play on Pc more than on consoles, lower price on games being one of the biggest reasons for me.

I bought Metro Redux last week on PSN for $8. I could buy a physical copy at Walmart right now for $15. On Steam it is currently $30. You can shop around and find deals for any game for any platform; but on console you can also sell, borrow, rent and trade games. Can't do that on PC. So this myth that games are cheaper on PC is just that. A myth. PC gaming is more expensive than console gaming, both in the short, and the long term.
