You also said "don't watch the news then much do ya" which seemed to imply that on the news there was a clear indication of violence being caused by videogames. I should hope that's not the case and I hope I misinterpreted that.

Absolutely not. I have been playing violent video games since I was four or five years old, and I'm not going to go shoot someone or run someone over with a car. It's just an excuse.

I've seen video game related violence on the news before, but I'm not sure if it was the cause however.

In the same way they used to say "listened to Black Sabbath" and all that nonsense? It's two things: 1) catering to or speaking from the hard conservative demographic that has always been terrified of rock and roll and shenanigans 2) easy publicity I refuse to pin the blame on games when their mere mention in relation to a crime is an indication to me of terrible journalism.

No. If someone is violent it's because there's something wrong with them to begin with due to deeper, personal issues, not because of entertainment. Pointing the finger at entertainment doesn't solve anything.

Yes mental issues. These people need to be sent to the asylum and play board games for the rest of their life.

No. As someone stated before, naturally violent people are are the only exception to be influenced by violence, (either in movies or games). I remember throwing chairs and crap at kids, before picking their dead lifeless bodies up, and throwing them at walls in Deus Ex: Invisible Wars with a gleeful smile on my face. But I'm possibly the most nicest, down the earth person you'd ever meet. :)

There's no hard evidence either way, so there's no real way to know for sure. All I know is that I personally don't feel violent or aggressive after playing a mature game, and that's all that matters.

the song "Sympathy for the Devil" by The Rolling Stones pretty much sums up violence..and how stuff like "videogames" isnt the cause of it

Not at all. Videogames just become a scapegoat for the parents of violent teens who can't admit that they messed up somehow when they were raising their child. It's been like that historically.

People are violent by nature and not by what they watch / play / read / listen too. I love hitting people, submitting them and get a buzz from it but i dislike games which has a main emphasis on violence like GTA / COD and quickly find them grow boring but i love puzzle games and games which put me deep in thought.

No. Violent people are violent by nature. They are messed up way before they get their hands on a violent video game.

Video games are an easy scape goat, though.

DarkLink77

Exactly!

And I think some parents just need to explain the difference from games and reality.

Playing too many video games can lead to pissed off kids who feel an uncontrollable urge to debate and analyze videogames vigorously on a forum... which can turn into anger, and then violence.

bad parents always need a scapegoat for why their kids are violent... i mean, its not like they could be more involved in their kids life to help them make the right decisions

I once raged at Burnout and punched a window a little too hard (an annoying fly that bugged me for about an hour landed on it). So yes, video games are to blame for all the world's wars, including WWII.

Violence begets violence - it's just the way of things...
