[QUOTE="AAllxxjjnn"] people still think there is a proven link between videos games and violence.ThePlothole
Well it is a proven fact that you can manipulate "studies" to produce a desired result. For instance you can take a bunch of kids that are known to be violent and ask them if they play video games. Chances are they will say YES. People then take this to mean that violent games make violent kids. When really it is meaningless, since most kids today in general play video games!
Also if you survey 100 kids who play violent video games and there is EVER a run of 10 kids in which 9 of them are violent, you can legally say that 9 out of 10 kids who play violent games have violent behavior, even if those are the only 9 kids out of the entire 100 to be violent, you can take the 10 out of context as long as they were all in a row. Seriously, that's how statistics work, it's where commercials get the whole "9 out of 10 dentists prefer..." crap. Also if you take, say 10 kids who play violent video games at a young age, then check in on them later in life, and let's say 6 of them show violent behavior, you are legally allowed to say that "60% of kids who play violent games at a young age become violent later," and completely disregard other influences. This is how they get death rates for smoking. At the doctor when they ask you "Have you ever smoked?" if you say "Yes," that goes into your file, then if they check in on you 10 years later and you're dead, they can legally say that you died "because of smoking". It's how they get absurd numbers saying 7,000,000 die a year because of smoking, even if only 10% of those people died because of smoking related issues.
Sorry getting off track about statistics here, just pointing out how easy it is to legally BS stats.
