Vita needed a gimmick like the 3DS.

Either that or a much more appealing pricetag. I'm probably gonna get it, but I'll wait for a price drop.

To an extent, this is true. The glassless 3D is still the 3DS's unique hook... what does the Vita have to appeal similarly to the masses? inb4 Dual Analog

Its back touchpad haha. They basically just copied Nintendo and went double touch like they copied analog on ps1 but with two analogs.

I squint and facepalm at some of Sony's moves.

I agree in a sense that Vita needed to do something different since it is trying to be a lesser version of a console but cost the same as a console at the same time. So spend more then a console to play for example a weaker Uncharted game or play the better uncharted game on a console that is cheaper. I just think from everything I have seen Vita is just trying to have console style games but they are just not as good as console games and after adding in add-ons such as memory and the Vita itself it is more then a console.

The back touch pad is their gimmick lol. I'm probably going to get a vita launch day. But the back touch pad is kinda of ridiculous. I mean it looks like you are getting to second base with your vita.

Uh, no? $250 base price, 32GB $100 prce = $350. Nice try. I'm sure you convinced the Vita haters tho. What point would there be to buy a 32GB Memory Card anyway? Music? Video? My iPod is 30gigs and has 1,300 songs, and that hasn't even taken half of it yet. People see the priciest option and automatically think they need it.

It is nearly $400 if you include a game as well, who is going to buy a handheld without buying any games for it and that's just the wifi version the 3G version based on those prices is already $400 without a game.

For $250 you can get a 3DS (With a 2GB SD card already) + 2 games

For $350 you can get a 3DS (With a 2GB SD card already) + 4 games and still have $20 left over for a quick meal

Im still not quite sure what the appeal of the 3G version is since 3G can't be used for gaming on it and if i remember correctly downloads are capped at 20mb.

I think it depends on the user, I don't see myself using up 8GB's after 6 months. Ofcourse, the only thing I'll be using it for is gaming. I have my iPod for music, and my laptop for video's.

Nintendo was online long before Sony was (NES, SNES and N64DD), Snes had a CD expansion before the PS1, that expansion eventually became part of the PS1.

3DS doesn't have a 3G version, so we'll compare the WiFi version. You're considering 2GB SD card when he included 32GB memcard for that $350. A 4GB memcard would be around $20. That would be $270. Buy one game, and you're at around $330. Sure, it's still expensive. But it's not as much as you make it out to be.

Wrong. They tried to make that together with Sony, but it was never released. Nintendo's first optical disc based gaming console was the GameCube. http://www.consoledatabase.com/consoleinfo/snescdrom/

Nintendo + Phillips CD-i still before the PS1

SNES CD addon later became the PS1.

As someone who owns both systems the PS Vita is just the better overall system. The 3DS has a slighty and I mean slighty better library because it was out first but as far as features and overall potential the PS Vita outweighs it. Hopefully Sony can and will throw some money at companies to get the PS Vita going and drop the price of those memory cards asap. I mean the Vita is only a newly launched 3 week old system and it's not going anywhere despite the gloom and doom..

I hope I don't get hooked by new system excitement. What Vita needed was a reminder of the Playstation brand. Destruction Derby should be launching with the unit. Sony should also be stressing FPS "anywhere".

The SNES CD addon was never publicly released. And while Philips acquired a few Nintendo licences for the CD-i, the CD-i was never a Nintendo product. Manufacturers were Philips, Magnavox and Sony. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD-i The first true Nintendo optical disk based console is the GameCube.

It is though, isn't it? The system itself is $250, two games lets round to $70, and then add in the memory card. Now, the smart way to go about buying a memory card would be to just be over and done with it and buy the biggest one, or at least the 16gig. That one costs $50?

That IS $400 right there. This is what is swaying me from buying it. Not only the memory card, but if that brick battery thing is available at launch I bet it will cost at least $30.

And that is the equivalent to buying the Xbox Arcade. 4gb card? Seriously? This is meant to be a multimedia device. Music, movies, internet, and games. Plus, everyone that buys the system is likely going to buy a few games to go along with it.

How about this: Nintendo 3DS = $170. You gotta get a memory card with that 3DS so a 2GB one cost you $13. Then you NEED the 3DS starter Kit for $30 because you have to have a carry case and car charger for your on the go gaming. You also will be using the screen protectors and cleaning cloth. Like you said who buys a handheld without games so you need to get all those great Nintendo first party games like Mario Land, Mario Kart, Starfox and Zelda so that is another $160. Plus you need a travel case to store all your games so that's another $10.

Holy Smokes the 3DS cost $383!

You can talk about all the add ons all you want. The Vita cost $250. When you mention how much a 360 is you would say it is $200 for one model or $300 for the other. You wouldn't say well its $400 because its $200 for the system, $50 for an additional controller, $20 for a rechargeable battery kit, $120 for at least another 2 games...etc etc

3DS comes with a 2gb memory card already as well as the 1.5gb it has in built.

You don't need the 3DS starter kit because the 3DS works without it just fine, you need the memory card to play games on the Vita. You don't need screen protectors and a cleaning cloth because the 3DS works without them perfectly fine.

$160 + $170 = $330

Which is pretty much the equivalent of a Vita Wifi version $250 + a game $50 + 4gb SD card (Around $20 although im sure you can find one for much cheaper than that if you look for it)

At a system launch I look at the real-world amount I'm going to spend. Everybody I have ever known that plays videogames looks at it this way, as well. Most people generally buy two games and an additional controller at launch, for consoles. Given the poor battery, the pack is almost a must. I bought a 3DS at launch; $250 + $80 in games. $330. Luckily for me, Amazon was offering a $25 credit for the system purchase, plus another one for the games which I believe was $15. That brings it down to $295, which is still very pricey imo. Vita is just outrageous.

Its back touchpad haha. They basically just copied Nintendo and went double touch like they copied analog on ps1 but with two analogs.

I squint and facepalm at some of Sony's moves.

ugoo18

Like all comanys don't copy each other, does N have online and use cd's

Nintendo was online long before Sony was (NES, SNES and N64DD), Snes had a CD expansion before the PS1, that expansion eventually became part of the PS1.

Now if only any of those were true.N's first online and cd system was cube

The Battery last about 4 hours and 30 minutes which isn't to bad compared to other devices on the market.

[QUOTE="ugoo18"]It is nearly $400 if you include a game as well, who is going to buy a handheld without buying any games for it and that's just the wifi version the 3G version based on those prices is already $400 without a game.

ugoo18

Clearly you didn't understand the point of the post. It was to show that the vita cost a certain amount just like the 3DS cost a certain amount. If you are planning to spend more than the price of the system you are buying then it isn't the system that cost more it is your purchase that cost more. Saying the Vita is $400 isn't correct. Saying the Vita+ your other purchases with the Vita will come out to $400 is correct.

I'm not arguing battery life. The battery pack is a useful addition. I'm a fan of it. Bluetooth sucks battery, and I believe local coop uses bluetooth. I'm leaning towards buying one, and one reason would be playing fps/street fighter type games out and about with friends.

Considering how powerful and expensive the hardware is I don't mind paying for it with vita. Memory card overinflated but I only buy 1.

[QUOTE="starjet905"][QUOTE="ugoo18"]$330 = 3DS bundled with 2gb SD card + 32gb SD card + 1 game $330 = 3DS bundled with 2gb SD card + 4 gamesHeirren

Which is why I said "Sure, it's still expensive. But it's not as much as you make it out to be" in return to your "It is nearly $400 if you include a game as well".

You are adding a 16GB memory card there. In that case, add that to the 3DS price as well because the 3DS doesn't come with a 16GB SD card. Your comparison fails as a result. Like I said, it's expensive, but not $400.

Wha?! You don't NEED a 16gig card for the 3DS, that's the thing. A bigger card is necessary for Vita because a lot of full fledged titles will be PSN exclusive--Gravity Crash, for example. I stand by what I said and my comparison is completely valid.

It has no games that appeal to the mass market.... that's what it needs mostcirclesquare
That and the price. I think Sony misunderstood the handheld market, and the console gamers they tried to make play Handheld. I'm pretty sure they'd prefer a big TV, comfortable couch and steroes etc. Look at the DS, and the kind of games that it had which made it so popular. PsP/Vita is the opposite to that and so it had the opposite of success. People, when buying handhelds, their main concern isn't its graphics but is it affordable? The answer is no, therefore no one will buy it. The second thing is the games. I dont know who would want Assasins Creed Revelations on a handheld when you can play it on a nice High Definition TV.

I would buy Revelations again if it came out on the Vita. The huge high definition TV isn't portable.

Did I say the huge majority would buy? I couldn't care less who else would buy. I just responded to your "who would want to buy" comment. I would buy, and I wouldn't care whether others bought or not. I don't let others decide what I buy. I just buy what I feel is worthy. :)

And is Gravity Crash 16GB?

That isn't the point. The point is that many proper games will be released on psn. A larger card will be necessary, and cheaper in the long run.
