So is Persona is the new COD/AC3/Insert new game that will save the Vita?

TwistedShade

Not sure if serious but no, since it's been out for awhile. Still it's an amazing game.

Oh i know it's been out for awhile but every now and then someone here hypes up either a future Vita release or a past release as the game to single handedly pull the Vita up from it's massive sales hole.

you guys need to stop arguing with that guy he said the shin megami tensei games sound bad on name alone. but the vitas highest rated game is shin megami tensei: persona 4

TwistedShade

To be honest i'm not sure if I got the names confused since i've never heard of the games before but even after googling I can't really find the connection.....

You probably shouldn't be talking about RPGs.

[QUOTE="josephl64"][QUOTE="TwistedShade"]For the record neither of those are out right? One of them not even being in the US atleast.

Yangire

they're both out...well at least in Japan. My friend imported both so I got the chance to really enjoy them, I'm probably going to import Bravely Default later and I would have done so also for Fire Emblem but that artbook bonus is what's making me wait.

This is unrelated, but how long have you studied Japanese and what methods do you use? I see that your studying it, and it's one of my major interests so I'm curious.

well thing is that after you learn your kana you should be able to read everything while practicing on you basic kanji(the govt. has a list of basic kanji necessary for daily use). The latter will take some time, but basically I just expand on my vocab by going little by little through visual novels left untranslated and writing down the words I don't know and that's how I usually expand upon it and leave class assignments to kind of do the rest(like with all language classes and textbooks, each chapter or unit has a theme whether it be the classroom, vacation, workplace, cultural sites, historical, etc.)

As someone whose actually played

Bravely Default (3DS)

Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers (3DS)

Disgaea 3: Absence Of Detention (Vita)

Fire Emblem: Kakusei (3DS) (Beaten)

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked (3DS) (Beaten)

Persona 4: Golden (Vita) (Beaten)

Project X Zone (3DS) (Beaten)

Tales Of The Abyss (3DS)

I agree it is the best RPG on either handheld currently. Only games I can foresee topping it is Dragon Quest VIII (3DS) (Only played a few hours on my PS1 copy) or Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS). I haven't played Kingdom Heart Dream Drop Distance but considering what I've seen it doesn't come close to Persona 4.

PS Vita will get more the problem is localization. Games like Tales Of Hearts R will be great but not make it out of Japan.

Vita has no RPGs

3DS has Bravely Default, one of my most wanted RPG of all time and what could be my 2ond or 3rd best game of all time

Which means i would take Bravely Default over all Vita + PS3 +PS2 +PSP games combined

So much for Vita RPGs LOL

I get that you have a hard on for BD for whatever reason but don't go on saying dumb things like that especially since you have nothing on BD's quality except for what you hear on the internet.

Yeah, but most gamers don't want to play games they don't understand which is why i always challenge people who use imports. Even though I study Japanese and play imports I never list them for that exact reason.

Dont waste time on him, when someone says he'd take 1 game over the collection of 4 x systems, he's clearly not worth discussing about gaming with such a person...

and i dont want to hear its his opinion... thats just stupid fanboy talk!!

Haven't played Persona 4: The Golden, but Persona 4 on the PS2 was better than any other JRPGs this gen, so if Persona 4: The Golden improves on this with new content and upgrade to presentation then I guess that's king as far as JRPG quality goes, commercially though the idea of being a Vita exclusive was a horrible choice, the Vita isn't doing too well and this game isn't doing any better. Hopefully Atlus decides to port this game over to the PS3 and Xbox 360 and maybe the Wii U, for instance an affordably attractive collection including Persona 3 FES and Persona 4: The Golden would be an excellent idea if ported to various platforms. If this were thought of earlier then maybe it could have been utilized toward garnering awareness for the franchise prior to releasing Persona 5, which might have increased revenues by sales of the collection and increased interest in the release of Persona 5 itself. Once a series develops a positively broader reputation with gamers then maybe utilizing its greatness and exclusivity for pushing a handheld like the Vita would be more effective, but it isn't going to do much while the series is still struggling to build a bigger name for itself, and limiting itself to a platform that isn't doing too well isn't going to help either.

I'd actually agree that it's better than any RPG on the 3DS right now. I'm still not buying a Vita for it though as I have it on PS2. If Vita gets a few more JRPG's that I don't already own I'd probably consider picking one up and may even buy Persona 4 Golden as well. Have to wait and see though as nothing on the system really takes my interest right now.

I think everyone is forgetting Harvest Moon: A New Beginning. Most underrated 3DS game.

Its the best in the entire series since Back to Nature on the psone, and I haven't heard anyone even utter a word about it.

Frankly i cant think of a single Vita exclusive RPG i want (if such a thing exists)

On the other hand, 3DS is full of amazing RPGs and adventures like Layton, Zelda and Bravely Default, each one of them is a huge reason to own a 3DS

Also

Fire Emblem

Etrian Odyssey

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate

Ace Attorney 5

Tales Of The Abyss

Dragon Quest VIII

Shin Megami Tensei IV

etc

The original DS beats both systems. Radiant Historia and Drago Quest IX are shining examples of what JRPGs can be... RH with its story and battle system and DQIX with its overflowing content and job/ skill point system. Plenty of other greats on it, too.

Why ?

Bravely Default, Layton, Zelda

Like Fable, Witcher, Lost ODyssey, Blue Dragon, Alan Wake, Mass Effect 1 etc are the reasons i supported xbox 360 the most

The PSP beats the DS since the DS doesn't have The Legend Of Heroes: Trails In The Sky with some of the best character development ever seen in a JRPG. Also, Valkyria Chronicles 2, Ys Oath In Felgana and Seven. ;)

The PSP does not beat the DS, not a chance in hell. I love the PSP, and it is one of my favorite systems of all time, but the DS had it thoroughly trounced in every department, including in JRPGs.

The original DS beats both systems. Radiant Historia and Drago Quest IX are shining examples of what JRPGs can be... RH with its story and battle system and DQIX with its overflowing content and job/ skill point system. Plenty of other greats on it, too.

I believe I've played more JRPG's / SRPG's then you on both platforms considering I own 95% of both RPG libraries for both systems from both Japan and America. DS doesn't not trounce the PSP at all in RPGs and if you think that IMO you don't really know what the PSP fully has to offer.

The real question is, does Vita and PSP have even a single RPG that is exclusive to them ?

LOL, i dont know of any

Bravely Default, Zelda, Layton etc on the other hand are 3DS exclusives

Calling a winner between the DS and PSP on the RPG front is pretty hard, but I might give the edge to the DS.

This thread is pointless. Handsdown means with out a doubt. The fact that people are able to mount arguements contradiciting the title without getting laugh out of here proves that the TC is wrong.

I'm pretty sure every thread I said that in was about upcoming U.S. releases like you bringing up Dragon Quest VII because the last ports were localized or Bravely Default because some trademark was registered even though SE said no localization in the near future. You're talking about library quality and thus the full picture is on the table and TBH even without imports they're close and there's no "trouncing" by either system. The DS for example has probably 40+ more RPGs then the PSP but the majority of those are **** like Fossil Fighters and multiple versions of Megaman and Pokemon.

I count the RPGs available to play on either system in the US. The DS was better than the PSP in that regard. Most of the good stuff on the PSP didn't even make it to the west.
