Because people have proven that they're willing to spend that much.DeadlyZodiac
Because games cost an obsurd amount to make for the 360 and PS3. I'm just glad they arent $70-$80 because they should be. but thats what all of that $10 downloadable content is for.laughingman42
I can understand why the ps3 would because of the blue-ray disc but whats the 360s excuse if there using regulars discs??

This has nothing to do with it. Read the other posts about consumers' willingness to pay those prices. There's your answer.
Get a jobdimar19
I have one but I have other priorities too, its gonna be hard to get most of the games you want even if you do have a job cuz most of the great 360 games are being released too close to each other.

I'm not talking about cost to manufacture. I think the case cost about as much as the disc to make. I'm talking about the fact that alot of 360/PS3 games cost 10 to 20 million dollars to develope.[QUOTE="dimar19"]Get a jobbigboss5ak

OK. Get a Wii or PS3 and spend 2x60$ per year

The excuse? You will still pay $60 for them, so they'll seel them for $60.
Games were $60 back during the SNES era too. They were not as complex, two-players, not online, not updatable. You pretty much got what you got.
Today the costs of production are much higher. Teams are no longer only 12 people like on Goldeneye 64, they are 120-200 people like on Assassin's Creed. You have to help pay for that, for the R&R, for the extra work put into online, bug-testing, extra features.
We live in a much more prosperous time than in 1990. The $60 you spend today should not hurt you as much as the $60 spent during the SNES era. (perhpas our parents paid for us then so it didn't seem bad? Perhaps you are now older and know the value of a dollar now?) The $60 game is highly justified to me. I can see why they charge around that amount. My only complaint is some games end up only being around 8-10 hours with no online. Now that would make me feel ripped off.
I dunno what it's like in America but I'n Australia all next gen games cost $10 BUT if you look around you'll akways fine them $10 or $20 cheaper and thats when no sales are on.
because games have been 50$ for too long?HappyInvader101Dude I remember some N64 games were $70. Some SNES games were around that price also.
[QUOTE="SegArgyle"]production costs
and stop trading in your games just keep them, you just get ripped off trading them in
bigboss5ak
I dont mind trading them in cuz once I get a hold of those games I mentioned I seriously doubt ill look atgears and graw2for very long time. but ill try to sell em on ebay for a little more than id probaly get.
SegArgyle
too bad, I used to trade in all the time till I wished I had those games back, I like to relive the memories
they're $60 because we're all idiots who are willing to pay it regardless. Games have been more expensive in the past (Neo Geo, N64). But the fact that PC versions of many of the same games we're shelling out $60 for are between $40-$50 suggests to me that we're simply getting screwed.
If PC games rose in price in a way commensurate with console games, I'd be okay with it...but the disparity there is questionable at best...scandalous at worst.
Developers spend money to make the game. If they are expecting to only sell a certain amount they charge accordingly. Lets say they sell 1,000,000 copies and they spent 10,000,000 to make the game, they could sell them for around 10 dollars each to break even, or 25 and make a 15 dollar profit. dark_templar_99
The same PC games are $40 or $50. $50 at the very most. explain to me why the developers only seem to think the console versions should cost more money. :|

Royalties to Sony and MS for having the games on their Console?could be...but I doubt it. some thigns have simply costed more when they didn't have to. Example:
GRAW Chapter 2 update. For PC owners of GRAW, the update (which wasn't exactly the same but had mostly the same things and a host of fixes and patches, weapons and maps) was 100% FREE. For the 360, it was $15. :|
No, there's no justifying that. If the update costs Ubisoft, then spread the cost to all platforms. Don't make the 360 owners pay for the dev costs for all the platforms Chapter 2 would be on. it's really unacceptable.
Even Cliffy B said games shouldn't cost so much.
Why do americans complain aobut paying $60 USD for a game ...
choasgod
because they're overpriced. your getting screwed with a jackhammer doesn't mean we want to take it just because it's softer here. screwed is screwed.

And that is why I play most of my games on the PC. If I can get it for PC (especially fps) then I will. I don't like how every generation they raise the price of games. Its getting ridicilous.

there really are no legit excuses if they're going to make the same or better games and charge less for them on PC. Crysis will redefine gaming graphics for probably close to a year if not longer...and yet it will only cost $50.
can't justify $60 on a console game after that. really, it can't be justified now.
I was sitting here seeing how much trade in credit I can get on gears or graw 2 or how much I can sell them on ebay because I wanna start pre purchasing some games now. Such as Blue dragon, halo3, eternal sonata and Too human since there being released really soon. Than as i was adding them up I was like hold on why are next gen games 60 bucks again?? I never got a clear cut answer from anywhere as to why. I never really thought about it until now that major 360 games are gonna come avalanche our asses soon. So why??bigboss5ak
Because games cost more to make. A lot more. And, in Sony's case, they're using BDroms, expensive disks for now.osirisomeomi

I've asked the same question here once, and someone answered me "console license". Apparently the console devs eat about 10$ a game for it to be released on their system. Or so.
Btw there was a good discussion about this on gametrailers, lets see whether i can find it again.
Here. And the other parts of Episode 3 are about money too. Might be interesting.
