So it wasn't a "hold X to win" game like everything else.

What, does it need more iron sights, auto aim, killstreaks, and perks for you to stand a chance?

Killstreaks are for people who are playing well. Perks dont make the game easier

Killstreaks give you free kills/points. Certain perks make the game easier. LOL how do you defend pre-installed hacks?

Was going to give you a failing grade but this little bit "and wanted to frustrate us because we won WW2" warrants a decent score.

7/10

Would read again.

The learning curve is steep, unless you've played Demon's Souls, then it felt pretty natural to pick up. Also: stop being a p****.

Demon's Souls has provided me with some of the most satisfying gameplay this generation. If Dark Souls is even marginally worse (I haven't played it yet), it is substantially better than most games this gen. Being punished for messing up is something that has been missing from games this gen.

Sorry tc but you just suck and or have no patience... Go back to playing cod

Mattizzle815

Terrible idea. COD has insane balance issues and can get infuriating. If TC gets frustrated with the SOULS games.........................

Can't wait to see what kind of hilarious actions TC does when he gets sniped by a quickscoper.

I honestly Hate Dark Souls. I like challanging, I do, but the game is just to frustrating. There is a difference between challenging and fun (like The Witcher 2) and a frustrating, punishing game like Dark Souls. Its just not for me, I really don't see the appeal of a game that punishes me.

Obviously Dark Souls isn't a game for everyone, but "a terrible game"? That's just incorrect. DS takes a lot of patience, and some trial and error, but as long as you play smart, you'll always find a way to succeed. The punishments for dying aren't even that bad (no where near as harsh as Demon's Souls), and personally, every time that I failed I just wanted to try even harder the next time. Also, I found Ornstein & Smough to be one of the best boss fights ever, so, to each their own I guess.

To me, it's one of the best games ever made -- A 10/10.

Oh, and...

The game did not want you to have fun, and wanted to frustrate us because we won WW2...Second_Hokage

WTF?? Dude, not cool at all.

One perk is the ability to run long distances, are you saying thqt some players can run long distances without the perk? Death perks dont give much advantage. Anyone with half a brain would understand that its the low damage and only having to learn one weapon that makes cod accessable

If you like frustrating yourself, then go for it. Since when are video games suppost to be painful to play? Its suppost to be a relaxing and enjoying experience.

Relaxing? Never. An experience filled with enjoyment? Sure. However, if Dark Souls really is as unforgiving as everybody makes it seem, then I may stay away from it. I don't mind hard games, but when it gets to a point where the game is just mocking you, then...

people overreact to the game's difficulty, because at first glance it does look extremely challenging and borderline cheap. then you realize you're playing it wrong, and the game gets infinitely easier.

Dark Souls isn't terrible just because you can't handle a game that doesn't hold your hand TC. It's a little cheap in some areas, but the game requires patience, skill, and decent timing. If anything Dark Souls is much more forgiving than Demon's Souls. Demon's Souls armor didn't really do a whole lot and it only took two hits in a row to die.

It had the worst learning curve of any game ever released, the fighting mechanics were always in favor of the enemy, you had little health, your stamina was always down, and leveling up did nothing to improve them much, 2 hits and you still die. And dont get me started on getting Cursed...The game did not want you to have fun, and wanted to frustrate us because we won WW2... Tell me you didnt contemplate destroying the disk during the Ornstein and Smough fight? Exactly! PC players, have fun punching a hole into your $300 LED monitor.Second_Hokage

its learning curve the worst ever? hahahahahhahahahhahaha damn console noobs you should go and play X.

wait i found dark souls a lot easier than demons souls :)

http://uk.gamespot.com/x-beyond-the-frontier/ go have fun with that learning curve then realise how stupid you were :)

as a pc player my 100 pound monitor wont get punched in and i look forward to buying the game again then running it on 60 fps with 8x aa and 16 af @ 1200p in blight town on my tv and roll on the new bosses :)

Perks help good players too, so it all evens out. If two players have the quick reload perk then theyre equal. You think quake or ut would be more accessable with perks?

The only thing I hate about the souls games is the combat is way too slow. I prefer something faster, but the setting and design makes up for it.

Different strokes for different folks, I loved Dark Souls and Demon's souls. Just because you like your games to be unbearably easy, some people like their games to be unforgivably hard.

Nothing was broken about the game, which is why it scored so well and it gets so much praise, the only hate it receives is from the people who don't know how to play it and fail miserably.

Saying all games should be mindless Call of Duty fun is like saying all films should be mindless Transformers fun.

Its dumb, and it overlooks the various reasons someone can like something, not to mention that Dark Souls is an incredibly fun game, just offering a different level of satisfaction through hard earned accomplishments and satisfying combat over quick "+10" XP marks over each kill.

I mean... this thread is just, kind of ignorant of that, and I feel like that mindset is the mindset of someone who devalues the industry as a whole for not pandering to their needs and opinions.

If you couldn't adjust your strategy and advance in Dark Souls then you're just not great at certain game's (not as hard as made out to be), Dark Souls is an amazing game.

The great mystery of gaming: Why are so Demon's Souls and Dark Souls considered so hard? I have platinumed them both without much trouble. Are they hard games? I guess, they are more difficult than your average game but it's how you APPROACH them. I heard so much about the games, how hard they were and how one trap can kill you.

So when i started to play the games, i was very cautious and very careful. I progressed through the levels slowly, often going back to spend my souls. What happened? Well to be honest i kind of breezed through the game, destroyed most of the bosses first try. So unless everyone is doing something massively wrong that just came naturally to me, i don't think they are as frustrating as people make out. Maybe people are more stupid than i thought and approach it like god of war or something...

I beat Ornstein and Smough my first try. Thats not to say I don't think the game was hard. Todays gamers are wussies I grew up on Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania on the NES. Ninja Gaiden took me 5 years before I could beat it and Castlevania took me 4 years.

[QUOTE="Cranler"][QUOTE="Jebus213"][QUOTE="Cranler"] One perk is the ability to run long distances, are you saying thqt some players can run long distances without the perk? Death perks dont give much advantage. Anyone with half a brain would understand that its the low damage and only having to learn one weapon that makes cod accessable

Uh no? Any amount of advantage given from a perk is bad. Again, I'm gonna keep saying it :) Perks are there to help you at whatever you suck at. Killstreaks give free kill/points. You won't be able to convince me otherwise.

lol. Theirs no advantage when everyone has perks. How do you get a killstreak going if you afent playing well? Imagine if quake had killstreaks noobs would get owned even harder

Yes perks do give you an advantage and killstreaks just give you free kills. It's impossible to suck in CoD unless your an 8 year old with ADHD. You can't convince me otherwise. Every time I hop into CoD or any other game that has them that is the case.

So it wasn't a "hold X to win" game like everything else.

What, does it need more iron sights, auto aim, killstreaks, and perks for you to stand a chance?

If you like frustrating yourself, then go for it. Since when are video games suppost to be painful to play? Its suppost to be a relaxing and enjoying experience.

I never got frustrated. Odd huh?

The game's difficulty was actually quite overrated.

It got easier as it went along - you'll die straight away to pretty much everything at the start, since you've got no health and no idea where to go...but once you've levelled up and found a decent shield, most of the later boss fights are easily beatable on your first attempt (for example, I was actually honestly expecting that Cinder fellow to be a mini-boss leading up to the 'real' final boss, since he went down so painlessly to standard block-and-swipe tactics).

If anything, most of my deaths came from the game not offering any indication as to where to go (so you'll walk down the 'wrong' path and insta-die), or the clunky platforming sequences. Those were definitely bordering on cheap deaths.

Anyway, Dark Souls was far from a terrible game. It was generally well-designed and had some really good fights in it. It probably wouldn't hit any of my top ten lists - especially considering some of the anticlimactic boss fights and hilariously phoned-in ending - but it certainly wasn't "bad".

I think they should have made more of an effort to make it's systems a little more transpararent. One of my frustrations with designers (especially Japanese designers) and some gamers is this belief that a game must be completely obtuse in order for it to be challenging. The problem is most other develops go way too far in the other direction in that you can't go 2 steps in any direction with out tutorial prompts...
