Not just any games, but games like Metal Gear Solid 4, FFXIII and Gran Turismo 5 that couldn't be replicated or duplicated on any other console.

but you realise that you get a blu-ray players, free online access, 1080p straight from the box, and tilt controls and in the future the most advanced rumble this gen.

SemiMaster

1.) You think that MGS 4 can't be done on the 360 (aside from the totally frivolous Sixaxis thing), you're wrong.

2.) 1080p from the box? Assuming you have the HDMI cable and 1080p TV. People always act like if you buy a PS3, you automatically get a 1080p TV.

3.) And now rumble is awesome again? I thought rumble was last gen.

1.) Both of you are not develepors so you can't say anything about that

2.) That is the same with the 360, so where's your point?

3.) When did he ever say that rumble was last-gen? Just because someone says so doesn't mean everybody says so.

This is proof that lemmings are gnawing on everything that could do some "cow-ownage". It doesn't matter if 1 guy says something awkward, lemmings assume everybody thinks that way.

fair enough, but when sony's bosses are saying stuff like that, you have to wonder about company management and whether they know what they're doing or not

unfortunately for sony, the consumers are of the same mindset..

$600 for a toy is stupid....

We all know PS3 is more than a toy.

It really isnt. You PLAY games, You PLAY with toys.....they are just forms of entertainment and as such its apparrent that gaming systems are toys for older kids.

Theres nothing wrong with that.

What IS wrong is the fact that for $600 your doing more sitting around and watching than playing. Your paying more for a blu ray player with a ps2.5 attached.

[QUOTE="marklarmer"]the ps3 is for people who have more money than sense.insomnia37

and it makes more sense to spend around the same amount of money (depending if u want to match all the features the PS3 has to offer) to buy an overpriced last gen consol and then see it crash and freeze??

Jump in.............to see the red lights of death or play a bunch of shootings games on dvd's

Are those the best insults you can come up with? You had better leave it to the people who know what they are doing if so....

[QUOTE="snyper1982"][QUOTE="ramey70"][QUOTE="snyper1982"][QUOTE="ramey70"]

Video gaming is a hobby. And even with the PS3 at $600 it represents a very cheap hobby. I can't think of many hobbies where the most high-end piece of equipment is $600.

ramey70

You must not have your thinking cap on then....

I'll name 3 that I'm very familiar with.

Golf $300 for a driver, $500 woods, $400 for irons, $150 putter, $50 bag. That's $1,400 for high-end equipment.

Scuba

Tank $100, BCD $350, $250 regulator, $150 fins, $75 mask. That's $925 for mid to high end equipment.

Mountain biking

Easily over $1,000 for a high end mountain bike.

Well if you want high end for gaming then you better start pricing out the 6-7K HDTV's, and $10,000 receivers... Etc. You can't just name the PS3 as the only part, when you are comparing it to the total package of the other hobbies. Faulty logic my friend.

The HDTV and system would not be required high end equipment. If that were true then you could also add things to the other hobbies like a $10k golf cart, $8,000 trip to the Red Sea for diving, and a $20,000 trail lease in colorado for biking.

None of those are REQUIRED to do those hobbies. You don't NEED a golf cart, you need a TV. My point was there is more to playing games than just the console, and I tink you get that, and that is why you threw out a specious argument in rebuttal, as there really is no valid rebuttal to my point.

No. Any HDMI cable ($15) will do.

I'm glad I could clear that up for you.

It's difficult for me to turn away from twenty years of electronics propaganda that says your cables are one of the most important parts of your audio/video setup and now all of a sudden we can use the cheapest cable that we can find and it is going to do a good job. Monster cable has thrived for years selling upscale cables with good reason, the quality of cable you use affects the signal.

I couldn't help but chuckle at the blatant hypocrisy in your post. You accost him for lumping people together, then your last line does the very same thing. Hypocrisy at it's finest....

HDMI==digital signal. It's all x's and o's. Quality of the wire does not make a difference like it would for speaker cable, as long as it can properly transmit the data.  That said, Monster Cable is run by a bunch of marketing GENIUSES, because you can get better than monster cable-quality speaker cable for well under half the cost of a similar length and gauge monster cable, that sounds just as good.

360 had: GRAW, Oblivion, Perfect Dark Zero, Project Gotham Racing 3, Condemned: Criminal Origins, Kameo: Elements of Power, DOA4, and Call of Duty 2 around this time last year. PS3 has: Resistance: Fall of Man, Virtua Fighter 5, and Oblivion.

fuman3

well the only ones that were worth playing was call of duty 2, oblivion, and perfect dark. oh and you forgot about Motorstorm, NHL 2k7, and ridge raver for the ps3.

1. That's a matter of opinion. I enjoyed GRAW, Condemned, Kameo, and DOA. I also forgot to add Dead Rising and Ridge Racer 6.

2. I was only listing titles that got a AA or higher, hence the omition of Motorstorm. You're right, I did forget Ridge Racer 7 my bad. As for NHL, I wasn't aware we were counting sports games, in which case I have to add Table Tennis to the 360's list.

*edit: turns out Dead Rising was released in August, again my bad.

Unfortunately, companies like Nintendo are trying to make sure that everyone is reminded that video games are not capable of being anything except childish and cheap toys that provide the most hollow and base forms of entertainment.

Regardless, PS3 has disrespected consumers with a ridiculous price tag and an unprecendented air of arrogance.  I sure as hell will not pay 600 dollars to enjoy any form of media.

in my opinion, I don't agree with the phrase "$600 to play video games".  If you think about it, how many people have spent $200 on iPods and $300 on cell phones?  So, that's like saying "$200 to listen to music" or "$300 to talk on the phone".  As technology in video games advance, of course the price is going to increase.  So I actually think the price tag for the PS3 is justified for what it's offering.

I get to watch movies, play games, and listen to music through my entertainment setup right now. So yeah, I'm happy.

video games are becoming a luxury entertainment

but I think it's still very affortable, and totally worth it

some people spend 6,000+ on a car stereo, just for improving the bass and some other stuffs

I think gaming is inexpensive

well, when compare to other kinds of entertainment spendÂ
