The game is freakin awesome. Even considering that the beta still has some bugs that need to be worked out I can't get enough of it. Without going into details, there are really only 2 bugs that need to be fixed for this to be the best online experience ever to come to a console. Everything from the controls to the gameplay are already really awesome right now & the game is extremely addictive. No game has a funner capture the flag mode than this one, period!
There is still some additional tweaking & tuning that could be done to improve the game in addition to the 2 bug fixes... but honestly, I'd pay for this game without them doing anything else besides fixing the two bugs, it's just that much fun. Plus, they've already said they plan to continue improving it based on community feedback after the game is released anyway (in a vid interview, not the beta forums).
it's a high A, low AA game. I expect it to get overshadowed by Lair, Ninja Gaiden and Heavenly Sword.
it's like, I keep playing hoping to change my mind...but the magic just isn't there to me.Â
[QUOTE="PS3_3DO"]I hear it crashes your PS3! foxhound_fox
probably not. crashing is extreme.  Â
great game, bugs(beta), flying is superb and CTF is extremely fun..MattBrianI'm not really feeling the CTF. Maybe it's because my CTF lineage goes back to Unreal Tournament '99. THAT was intense CTF gaming. This...kinda not so much. :?

in the offical beta forums, there are threads a mile long with the title "my PS3 froze 13 times in an hour! F this!" or "my PS3 froze 3 times in 20 minutes!" it's really bad. but sometimes you can get some good run in.
I think I've finally figured out the problem in Warhawk...problem is, they won't change it to address the problem. :(Â

Really, you're one of the few online that don't enjoy it then... even in the beta forums when ppl aren't suggesting new ideas or fixes, there isn't anyone in there not enjoying it. And while UT is awesome, there still hasn't been a more awesome CTF experience on a console... what rank have you gotten to?
I suppose the game can't be for everybody... just don't see what type of online action titles you can like and not like this one. If you work with a clan that is keen on strategy, there really isn't anything that this game doesn't offer. As you can can literally attack the battlefield from every aspect BUT the water. Between the gameplay, the customization, & the flow of the games... the only way for this game to score less than AA is for them to not address the major known issues we talk about on the beta boards. With the one major bug aside, it's already a A title. The scope of the game is pretty awesome.
The freezing has more to with your individual network settings. Because you will also see some of us on the beta boards surprised b/c we hardly experience any freezing... I only experienced it the first day the beta was out and normally play 1-3 hrs at a time w/o any freezing now after reading some of the suggestions for configuring my router. Still, this issue has to be addressed (it isn't an issue on the SCEA servers though... only when ppl host games using their PS3 as a server... which is most of the games right now during the beta).

I don't think it's extreme. I'm an airplane game fanatic. Loved Hornet. Loved Falcon 2.0 and 3.0. Loved X-Wing. Loved Tie-Fighter. Loved AceCombat 4 and 5. Loved Crimson Skies. This game...I don't feel the magic man. I don't think the review scores will match some of those people's excitement. I think maybe some people are so excited about the game because they feel their elite in being apart of the Beta...so they're naturally more overzealous and less objective. Â
I don't see this game getting more than an 8.3 here. With a 7.5 or so as my low guess.Â

just because they're not suggesting new ideas doesn't mean that the game, threfore, is a "10" to them now. some things just kinda reach a a maximum level of potential and there's nothing more to be done. Example: a 4' guy can maximize his potential by perhaps playing on his High School's JV basketball team. But him playing to his max potential doesn't mean he has an NBA career in his future. know where I'm going with that?Â

in my experiences, 32 players has been messy and chaotic. something like a maxed-out Resistance room. It's less about skill...more about timing. so many planes in the air, there's no direction to shoot in and NOT hit an enemy plane.Â

Yea, the range of the reviews in the beta forum are from 8.0-9.3... this will likely be a AA-AAA title. The only reason I see it not being able to obtain AAA is the lack of a single player mission... but the multiplayer is shaping up to be AAA quality. The easy answer is that if you like Resistance, this is even better in terms of fun & gameplay, and that's saying a lot(R:FOM still has better weapons IMO though).
It's the mixture of on foot combat w/ the vehicles & turrets that make it so awesome.... no matter how you play you have to be careful b/c you're never at a complete advantage... and every aspect of the combat is fun to take a part of, so you're not likely to try going through an entire battle on foot, in a tank, jeep, or warhawk... there's so much variety. And that's part of what makes CTF so fun, all the different experiences you can have on one map depending on whether you're playing it defensively or offensively.

I should have been more specific: I'm referring to the dogfighting configuration (where it's all planes)
it's not an issue with balance; it's an issue of overcrowding at 32 via DeathMatch. I did it a few times and didn't want to do it again.  Â
But at CTF and Team DeathMatch, it's impressive. especially when you consider it's running smoothly at 60fps. I think the game is technically impressive and have said so several times on this board. I think it should get a 9 in graphics at least. Gameplay is kinda "meh" to me, though. it'll probably get a 7 here on that.  Â

I've only hosted my own game once so far... I've left my PS3 up running to host ranked games a few times, but of course I'm not even referring to those.
And no I don't think anyone is saying it's a perfect game... but if you look, there are already several 'rate this game threads' and the responses are pretty unanimously positive.
If you've experienced a lot of crashes, I can understand not playing the ranked games... but building your stats, earning ribbons, and unlocking new skins actually does a lot to add to the game as well and that might have something to do with your experience of it thus far... just my thoughts though.
And I wouldn't mind making the bet with you.... 8.3 is the low end for this game!
I will agree with you on one point though.... anyone going into this game thinking the arial battles are going to be anything like Ace Combat or other fighter pilot sims will be disappointed! This game DOES NOT play or control like a flight sim... that was the biggest adjustment for me as I'm an Ace Combat junkie. However, once you DO get used to the controls and the dogfighting, the game provides it's own awesome experience... I use my warhawks more for killing ground troops and taking out ground vehicles. But there are some REAL pro's at dogfighting in the game too (I'm still brushing up on those skills but I'm loving that aspect of it too). And it's the fact that you can go from Warhawk to foot to tank so seamlessly, and have fun in each of them, that really make this game something special.
As for the 32 player maps. 32 player deathmatch is utter chaos... but hella fun. 32 player CTF does actually get pretty strategic... especially when it comes to controlling zones.

lol, yea I haven't played a 32 player match with all planes and don't think I'd want to... but yea, I see you're heavy into the dogfighting idea of the game. I'll agree with Visions in that if you guys are approaching it in search of a next gen Crimson Skies or Ace Combat... it's only a A-AA experience. But if you approach the game embracing its full scale, it's hard not to appreciate all the different aspects it brings together. If this game was ONLY Warhawks, as the gameplay currently stands, I wouldn't recommend it... and even now I have no interest in playing any Warhawk only matches.

I will try to do more embracing tonight. Yea...I was a big fan of the original Warhawk. In my perfect world, I think the game would have been best if set up like this:
to me, the on-foot stuff makes some things more complicated (on-foot fighting will hurt this game's score...balancing is problematic).

Yep, got your PM and replied... there are other threads over there too but I'm not sure there are any others that have grown to 13 pgs long!!! But anyway, maybe we're seeing the same thread differently... b/c I'm still reading that most ppl agree that the finished product will be AA-AAA??? I read through quite a few of them before responding and couldn't find a single thread that rated the game below AA once the one major issue is resolved. As I said in my post and my PM, I don't think the game will necessarily get a AAA score, but myself (and obviously quite a few others) agree that it is a possibility. It all comes down to how much tweaking they do for the final product IMO.

should be interesting to see what happens. I really think I figured out what this game should have turned into. I might post it over here...but it's the kind of change that will simply not happen.
I took the liberty of tallying all the scores up in that thread. check your PM 8)Â
How would you beta types describe it? Like Halo with (real) planes or what?pundoglol no. it's different. I think it's something you have to play and decide if it's for you.Â

Nope, no FPS view (not yet *crosses fingers*)... which I do feel is one of the things that would improve the game a bit. As for the gameplay experience though... I enjoy it more than Resistance and Halo. The gameplay is actually deeper.
I think where me and Visions differ... I approached the game expecting more of a Battlefield type experience and he was looking for a Crimson Skies experience (which is probably fair considering the title of the game :-)... but as far as online battle skirmishes go, it is top notch.

Agreed.  and I think it's just terrible to compare to Halo. I think it's better compared to The Outfit on the ground. Give or take...
I'm enjoying the beta at the moment and I'd give it an 8.5 if a few little things are fixed by launch. It's a solid online game that is going to be around $30 on PSN and $40 for a hard copy with a headset. I'm going to buy it when it comes out.Ibacai
well yea, if the price winds up actually being that kind of a bargain, it's a must-buy for PS3 owners. But at $50-$60, it requires more scrutiny. I'm finding the game isn't going to be for everyone. Very much depends on what you're looking for.Â

Yes, it all depends on what you're looking for in a game. And by the way, every time try to join a game you're in you bail out. Either I scare you or my ingame character smells funny. :PPlease Log In to post.
