Hey man, I could care less if you think it's overrated or not, you're the one who questioned my argument.

talking about what was the best jrpg on last gen consoles is like deciding what is better between excrement or vomit.
Xenoblade was indeed way overrated. I rather play Lost Odyssey than that shit although if I have a choice I wouldn't waste my time playing any of them. Valkyria Chronicles and Disgaea D2 were excellent but these are strategy. Ni No Kuni was nothing but eye candy and charm. Tales series is a joke and Atelier is worse than dogshit. I liked Folklore but I think it's just nostalgia. Played 5 minutes of Neptunia and that was enough... FFXIII saga made me consider suicide as an option to forget about this mess. Resonance of Fate was decent but... It was so so so, I think it could have been something special. Generic is White Knight Chronicles and grind is its gameplay.
If you're really thirsty for an HD jrpg then the choices are obvious. Which one you consider to be the best it's reduced to what setting you prefer because none of them are anything special. Resonance of Fate has kind of a unique combat though but unique is not always good.
I bet my left nut that Persona 5 will be the only truly great jrpg of last gen... If they don't casualize it like they did with the Golden version of Persona 4. They practically ruined it.
Oh dear, I almost forgot about 3D dot Heroes, now this was an amazing jrpg although is mostly a copy/pasta from the original Zelda on Nes. Don't even know how they didn't get sued by Nintendo to be honest.

Eternal Sonata was the only JRPG that didn't suck last gen (well, depending on how you classify Persona 3 &4). Great art, music, and it was fun to play.

i still see nothing in your argument that xenoblade somehow changed The common perception of jrpgs.
Man I know that Xenoblade has its weak points, but I'm giving it the nod for best JRPG of the gen all day long.
valkyria chronicles then tales of xillia then ni no kuni. I didn't give enough of a chance to xenoblade or the last story because I hate playing on the Wii ( it's not in my room with the rest of my gaming set/pc set) so I roughly played them both for an hour or so. To be honest I doubt I care enough about those games to ever really play them.
No.
Dark Souls
Not a JRPG.
People seem to think any RPG made in Japan is automatically a JRPG. JRPG refers to a specific brand of RPG, one the Souls games are not part of. They're WRPGs made in Japan, not JRPGs.
Even though I never played Xenoblade I know most will say it. For me, I would have to say Lost Odyssey which was great also Tales Of Symphonia Dawn Of The New World, while not as great as the first Tales Of Symphonia game on GC, it was good. All the Tales games are great. As for your bashing on Xenoblade with the graphics lol, get outta here with thinking the graphics have anything to do with it being a good game or not.
Ni No Kuni's battle system was broken beyond belief. AI companions were useless, making it real time was a massive mistake. The game was good, but not great.
Xenoblade was a better game, but had the issue of being a single player mmorpg. That said, the best jRPGs were on handhelds.
Out of all the JRPG's released last generation and the only two people seem capable of talking about are the two most recent (Xenoblade and Ni No Kuni)?
I personally really didn't play any of them. Still want to find a copy of Lost Odyssey. Granted, if I ever get a not-loud 360.
Dark Souls is Japanese.... and an RPG. Does that count? Or do you mean those melodramatic type of RPGs?
lmao lemmings. Which game was AAA again?
Your trolling is really good. I'm thoroughly impressed.
How you went all "lmao lemmings", and then asked me which game was AAA. I must say, you're the first to ever jump the barrier of your every day trolling.
Good show.

Thank you, I've been honing my skills :)
Dear Lord, no.
I'll say Lost Odyssey, although I still need to finish Tales of Vesperia.
You should because ToV is a better game.
Why do people like Vesperia over Xillia? Xillia has the much better combat system even though Vesperia's plot is better (although it's not that good).

You're joking right? JRPG DOES mean a RPG made in Japan... that's it. And if you want to start with the "specific brand of RPG" crap, Dark Souls is pretty much a 3D version of old 8/16-bit games like Faxanadu, Terranigma, and Illusion of Gaia. I can't think of any WRPGs that resemble Dark Souls and the ones that do, the similarities are superficial at best. The game is distinctly Japanese, from the gameplay to the fantasy world (Demon's Souls and Dark Souls copy Berserk at every turn).

Dark Souls is an action RPG made in Japan. That makes it a JRPG with an action focus.
Also: No, the best JRPG of last generation hasn't released yet. Give it a little more time.
You're insulting the wii U?
No, Ni no Kuni is all pretty but 0 substance.
I really liked the game, but GOD no! It had too limited of scope, too many gliches, and too simplistic of gameplay to be even in contention for the best RPG of last gen. It has very good presentation which covers over a lot of the flaws, but other RPGs had a much more consistent package last gen for NNK to be in contention.

that would make it an action JRPG dude. JRPG alone has always referred to the traditional meaning
@Aljosa23: i was about to come in here saying xenoblade but you are indeed correct sir. the world ends with you was the best jrpg of last gen and a dam fine game. i really must finish it though...never got that far for some bizarre reason.
i was really dissapointed that the reveal last year was for an IOS port....how pointless. i would love a new one.
i also loved xenoblade (note to self...get wii back and finish that also). cracking game.
No it was a pokemon clone trying to capture the pokemon popularity on the ds, they then decided to release an expanded version on the ps3 where the expanded content was useless and half of it isn't available till after you beat the game, the content could have been squeezed in before the end of the game but for some reason they didn't.
From a graphics standpoint, and sound quality standpoint the game is amazing, but its gameplay is basic has been done else where, and its story is inane bullshit.
I enjoyed Arc Rise Fantasia a lot. It's okay if you haven't even heard of it. The game is very old school, at times way too old school. More often than not the game puts you in a dungeon with one save point in the beginning and at the end of the dungeon throws a boss at you that will beat you to a pulp. Thank god for the Dolphin emulator and save states.
This is one of those really japanese RPG's. Voice acting is pretty horrible, but that's part of the charm to someone who grew up on JRPG's of the past. Arc Rise Fantasia made me feel nostalgic and that's probably why I like it as much as I do.
Xenoblade never really pulled me in. Around 15 hours in I just stopped playing. Oh well, someday maybe.
I love Xenoblade, I really, really do, but Ni No Kuni was phenomenal for me. The emotion put into that game really got to me and I think it changed me as a person. An absolutely beautiful game in every single aspect. My favourite of last gen. There were a few aspects of Xenoblade I didn't enjoy so much such as the characters and plot. I found most of the cast to be quite forgetable/annoying except for Duncan, the plot was like something taken out of a generic batshit anime. It had so many cliches and was just stupid and way too insane at times. The actual concept was amazing but the plot unfortunately wasn't. I think Ni No Kuni is the better game by miles. Just a perfect title.

finally someone who understands!
The Last Remnant was my favorite, though from what I gather, the 360 version doesn't let you speed up the combat, and that would just make some of the battles unbearable. Still, the PC version is supreme. The combat is in a league of its own, and the game is far more challenging than a typical JRPG.
