there is no denying the fact that most of the hype for KZ2 really stems from the original trailer shown all they way back in 05. speculation has run while was it real gameplay or just CGI starting a fierce debate. Later it was said the 05 trailer was just the target render of what the game should look like, obviously when this was said many people automatically wrote of KZ2 claiming it was just the regular crap sony was trying to pull off. then the game falls off the map for 2 years and the only news we hear is that guerrilla games staff has bloated to well above average and the game had a budget similar to big name movies. at this point many were still sceptical about KZ2 and whether it could deliver. then E307 comes around and changes everyone's mind. while the game did look amazing there were alot of point people were quick to point out that either didn't match up to the 05 trailer or did not look good enough. many claimed the textures weren't good enough, bad AI, bad particle and fire effects. however guerrilla did show they took up the challenge to make KZ2 as good as the 05 trailer. over the coarse of the next year and a half through various press events and leak more vids and screens popped up show more improvement every single time we saw it. finally guerrilla really let the jar open on the game allowing many to see the game in a more final version. after seeing countless videos and previous the consensus is that guerrilla has really nailed what they set out for. not only were they able to match the 05 target video but in many ways exceed it, but the visuals aren't the only part. many previous have shared that the gameplay and the multilayer is just as amazing as the visuals and that KZ2 is more than just eye candy. in the end KZ2 went from being a mocked game that many at one time thought it could have been canceled to being one of the most anticipated games of this gen

my question is this would KZ2 still be anticipated or hyped if KZ2 was first shown at E307 and was the CGI target video worth it to build hype?

personally i think it was worth it. i was ver scepticle of KZ2 after i heard it was a target video, but that only set me up to be even more awwed once i saw teh 07 trailer and all the vids and screens after that and even now i'm still amazed the guerrilla could meet let alone exceed the 05 trailer

once again, it's the animations and fluidity of the CGI trailer that stole the show, and i think it was a brilliant move to make people talk about their game. -- also, KZ2 does not match the trailer's animations

Regardless if it matches the animations (or any other aspect). What other game has superior animations, lighting, post-processing, depth-of-field on consoles? GG didn't even make that trailer, nor did they claim it to be real-time. A Scottish tech studio did it right before E3.

Still GG did an AMAZING job in mimicking and in some cases surpassing the trailer. The trailer produced hype no doubt. But even without it, the E3 07 debut would have still impressed and wowed everyone. Period. Minus the criticism the game received under the weight of its target render.

Answer me this: what game in recent memory (this gen) reached or surpassed its target render?

marketing hype..since the PS3 wasn't due out, they needed something to keep fans and gamers waiting for the PS3 and not get a 360..it worked, IMO..more and more people showed interest and sparked a big buzz over it..now anything K2 related gets a lot of attention...pretty smart. just hope sony market and advetise the hell out of it....so even mars and the aliens know about killzone 2.

Don't put me out to be an anti-KZ guy, I'm just saying that KZ2 has not reached the level of realism people were raving about in the CG. Is KZ2 a technical masterpiece? Definitely, best looking console game I've seen.

I also think that the long beta phases have hyped the game grass-roots style and of course fixed any unfavorable/unbalanced quirks and glitches.
