Its not that simple Im afraid

If the Xbox 720 is released in its rumored form,  as in underpowered but overpriced thanks to forced apps like Kinect and a TV tuner,  it will be dead on arrival.  Microsoft knows this so they're panicking.  Something is definitely wrong.  

Competition is good for the industry.  The steambox will fill the void left by the Xbox 720 just fine.  Im quite sure Microsoft has done the math and found cancelling the 720 now and losing money spent on research and development is better then producing a console that wont sell
