seriously, this is dumb. the character is who he is and yeah a 30-something white guy is super generic and improperly represents the cosmopolitan make up of international video gamers - WHAT A SURPRISE! it's not a game where you go to the white house and lobby for more violent video games at the behest of gamers.
it's a game about ducks, trucks, and gettin' in the muck.

Ubisoft are a strange company. On one level, you had Assassins Creed 3, with deeply mature story telling and pretty respectful towards Native Americans and the British.
On the other hand, you have Far Cry 3, in which you play a 20 something Jersey Shore white American with magic negro syndrome helping the cloned natives even though you have only been on the island for 5 minutes. Being American and white, you clearly have the powa. Because, just. Far Cry 3 genuinely offended me.

i'm just kidding around, of course. but seriously, my fiancee, she thinks this is a non-issue. she plays practically the same games as me (well she doesn't play driving games, but does play 'killing' games). the gender, colour etc of the protagonist is neither here nor there.

Was about to say the same thing. When it comes to games like this it's more like 15% female players at best.
Plus a man doing anything feminine including playing a girl in a game is looked down upon in our society yet a woman being masculine is ok. So a woman is less likely to have issue with playing a male character than a male playing a female character.
It doesn't much matter much what gender the hero of a game is in regards to the story. I prefer a male hero being male myself. I can't identify with females cause I've never been one. Females are practically aliens..lol Now it would be better if you could choose the gender of the main hero like in Mass Effect.
Honestly if your so hard up for more female lead characters then start making games yourselves and stop complaining about it.
I hate political correct and social justice crap like this, if this person or the idiot reviewer such as the one who reviewed GTA5 on gs care so much about women's right why don't they take their political crap and actually help the thousands of women who are getting injured, raped and killed instead of whining and crying about no female leads in video games. As a female gamer I know that men are the ones that play games the most. the 48% being female is nothing but b.s. statistic.the percentage of female gamers who you can say are hardcore gamers is low. Most females I know only play social media games , the sims or mobile games or only play with their boyfriend/husband is around.
Apparently men should've felt offended by Child of Light, since it wasn't inclusive enough to have a male option for the lead protagonist, because we all know you can't enjoy a game unless your gender, race, and sexual preference are reflected in every character you play, amirite?
