We All Know What Everyone Will Say About Xenoblade Chronicles X

"Too bad this isn't on a real console"

That's going to be the mantra of everyone who plays Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Every single time the weak hardware shows itself in poor gameplay or visuals people will say it.

Every single time that stupid gamepad's controls leaves people wanting better controls people will say it.

Every single time Nintendo's awful online infrastructure ruins a multiplayer game people will say it.

Can Xenoblade Chronicles X really do well when the last thing anyone thinks after every gaming session is "Too bad this isn't on a real console"?

And every time they do, we will say, "Catch you on the flip side."

If anything, I think the complaints will revolve around the main story.

Would a game like that benefit from more horse power? Fucking of course it would. Does that invalidate the game if it's good anyway (and I said just good, given how well received the first one was, it could be great)? No. The larger issue for that game will be that it's on a console that is a failure and won't be sold to a large enough audience. Otherwise I'm sure the core Xenoblade fanbase will probably pony up, enjoy it, and at worst go "meh it's not as good as the first one".

The Wii U pad is fine. And the screen itself has a lot of potential to overcome the crippling console limitation of far too few buttons. Dunno how XBX handles it.

However, the story from what I have heard, is a massive turn off and nearly killed my interest in the game.

I had a hunch that someone with Nintendo in their name wouldn't like the fact that the Wii U is barely stronger than two LeapPads duct taped together.

Game looks good i would have loved to play it but there is no way im buying a nintendo system lol besides there are way too many good RPG's coming next year that arent on wiiu

Amen, i cant wait for 3DSs lineup next year, best JRPG lineup i have ever seen. And its rumored they have so much more to announce for it.

imo the Best JRPG line-up is available on consoles next year mainly the PS4 i mean persona 5? final fantasy 15? kingdom hearts 2.8? Tales of berseria? valkyria chrnicles? and many others! jrpgs finally coming back to the console world

I'm sure it will be decent, as Xenoblade was a cult-ish game of decent quality - and this follow up has been in the works for quite awhile. But sheep are going to be praising this game like it's the second coming. Whereas, the reality is actually that it's a somewhat dated looking - last-gen ish game - with most likely a nonsensical story, bad dialogue, and typically poor voice acting. If the RPG elements and gameplay is smooth - in a vast open world - then I'm sure that can carry the day to be a very solid game. But it will have it's faults.

Sheep will rate it 10/10

Everyone else will probably look at it and say 7/10 or 8/10.

Just because Xenoblade is stuck on something with lower resolution than a Colecovision doesn't mean this thread is bad.

That being said, I'm not worried about the visuals of the game or the fact that it's on the Wii U, I'm just worried about how much of a slog it could be. While I was okay with the original Xenoblade, it would have been swell if it had been a bit more creative with the sidequests/optional shit beyond just rehashing a bunch of "kill X amount of this Y monster" or "collect X amount of Y material" tier quests.

Xenoblade is the only JRPG that has dynamic questing and used the ability to predict the future to stop from back tracking. And the kill x monster was never bad, i think the most of kill x monster it has was what 5? Plus it had on the fly quest turning in and not only that, the side quest were only to help you if you where struggling with the game, the game even states it at the beginning.

Ive got 60+ hours in the game and i dont even do the side quests. I always battle the elite monsters 3-5 levels above me. Even the Bosses i fight with much higher levels then me. The game is very diverse and lets hardcore players have fun going hardcore.

I actually expect it to not be that great, but not because it's on the WiiU. Just because I don't think it looks all that good to begin with. Still getting it though.

@Jaysonguy: the real question here is how well will Xenoblade stand against Bloodborne, The Witcher 3, Metal Gear Solid 5 and Fallout 4?

@jcrame10: Will sell more then Bloodborne without the crazy hype and wont be buggy or have cut content like the others. So my guess is, it will be alright.

There was some good stuff buried in a really top heavy game in the first one, maybe they fixed those things?

I think the game will be hurt because too many things about it are last generation compared to what else it's up against.

Then again on the Wii U it has ZERO competition. You're giving a starving man food, he doesn't care what it is as long as it's edible.

@Jaysonguy: true. This is the first game of it's kind on the console (in 3 years time, which is pathetic). Jrpg, open world, hell even just 3d fans will probably follow it and be interested in the game. There's hardly any 3d games available on wii u, the big ones that aren't are still like 2.5D (captain road, super mario 3d world)
