[QUOTE="PC360Wii"][QUOTE="Chrome-"]Lil kids play games too so never gonna happen.DeadMan1290

Little kids watch films and listen to music too.... did that never happen? THIS is the exact stigma that needs to die in a fire. Games are not just for or just aimed at kids.... this isnt the snes/sega ara anymore.

I wonder if there are more adult gamers than kid gamers.

There is plenty of both. its just the older generations that are still around that never experience or get involved in this culture. things will be very different in 25-50 years time. Also its harder to get into games as it requires you to learn new interfaces and reflexes that most dont need or bother to use. you cant lose at a movie, pushing my girlfreind through ocarina of time 3ds has beena challenge enough and even though she enjoys it shes bad and requires me to do bosses, but i keep pushing her saying "it takes practice, stick at it and this kind of thing will come to you naturally, like riding a bike" Bit of a rant in there, but its sort of relevant, other mediums dont require that push that kids will easily like but current generation adults wont. (im refering to parents 30s, 40s onwards.). My mom is a primary school teacher, teaching 9 year olds, most of them watch adult programs, even crap like "Geordy shore" or whatever the hell it is, and have watched murder movies ect.... and yet its a problem with games? we cant sell sexual content in stores? or anything 18+? It makes no sense.... games are alot more expensive aswell and cant be streamed on youtube to every child who wants to see what it wants, and yet this medium is treated harshly "BECAUSE TEH KIDS MIGHT PLAY SOMETHING THEY SHOULDNT... GAMES ARE FOR KIDS SO WHY SHOULD THERE BE AO GAMES?" it blows my mind :(

industry report last year has the average age of a gamer at 35(ish) and surprisingly about 1/2 women.

That last part is amazing and I guess you can thank Wii, Kinect, Mobiles & Face Book since I bet last gen that % would be much, much lower.

Like it says, with the move to digital downloads it could happen, it would place the blame 100% on the parents if their kids got hold of it, think about it, they're going to need their parents to buy them games and you can just plaster warning screens everywhere along the transaction process so if they still buy their kid an AO game then they're morons. But really all this would do is make a ton of sex games, there's only been one game that's gotten AO for violence and that was Manhunt 2, and I don't think a game about being a heroin addict or whatever other adult theme could warrant an AO rating would be much fun.

I agree. Kids have been holding back gaming for far too long. Crappy companies like Nintendo gets lots of money whereas people hardly hear about masterpieces like Demon's Souls.

Of course last gen that was much lower. Yeah, we had female gamers last gen but those girls were into Doom, Counter Strike, Halo, Resident Evil and other real hardcore titles last gen. This gen women are more into the crappy Facebook games and not-so-bad Mobile games.

Who cares? The beauty of people having to purchase these things is that they can choose not to. A retailer shouldn't be able to tell adults what they can and cannot see.

If an a/o rating is needed for more sinister, dark and serious stories, then fine.

I wish it were true. Sony should really use their MovieStation blood and make a romantic comedy. Of course all the giggles and romance involved would easily make the game AO. Life is TOOO MUCH for children!! I really hate censorship. If it were up to me, game wouldn't have any ratings.

An AO-Rated version of that weird Bikini Samurai Squad game on the 360 would be hilarious.

Beatemups rated AO could be awesome too.

They need to get rid of either M or AO and just merge them together. M rated game for 17+ while AO is for 18+... the hell difference does that make?

The age isn't the real factor, it's the content. Though I was surprised when I looked it up too, I thought AO would for ages 21 and up or something.

There are barely any AO rated games anyway, but if a dev wants to make one then they should be allowed to be sold. List of AO games

What could we use them for?Pug-Nasty
Maybe if this was done then it could help to seperate AO games from other lower rated ESRB games as they should be. In other words, maybe PARENTS would finally get the hint that AO games are NOT for children and are for ADULTS ONLY, as intended !!! Maybe AO games would finally get some slack and people would not get all up-in-arms when an AO game "crosses the line" with it's content. I have never seen a reason why stores like Wal-Mart and the like needed to not carry AO games. Why not do what should have been done all along? Make buyers show ID as proof of age in order to buy an AO game instead of just not carrying the title? It is pure laziness of the retailers. Also not wanting to have to sacrifice "precious floorspace" by having to separate AO titles from non-AO games or restrict viewing of the covers from minors. These stores have always had the choice of simply requiring ID and storing the titles in a separate location from non-AO titles. But they choose to not carry the AO games, which is stupid as hell.

I really don't see the problem with AO games, if they want they could just be selective with their games to not let what is essentially pornography onto their systems. Otherwise, adults play games too. Why should they care what makes money for their system so long as it sells. It's always the worst kind of people who complain about being offended anyway. I really wish the companies would man up and just say that if you're offended, stop playing.

It would be nice to have true adult content in some games -- I don't mean artificial maturity like cursing, blood and bewbs either, more like sophisticated stories and situations that are over children's heads.

But surely any time there is a game with a lot of sex or violence that would result in an AO rating, the media goes crazy over that sh*t, blaming it for every murder and rape ever.

That would be a bit of a departure for video games. Because you still have to appeal to a rather large market - and most casuals nowadays just want to play a multiplayer where they can do a lot of damage in a short period of time.

I actually have never played Manhunt - I just like the idea of a developer making a game without restrictions. Making the game they want to make the way the want to make it. Where would you get the AO Manhunt 2?

It used to be sold on direct2drive before they was took over, now the new company won't stock it, so the only option now is to go the illegal route of acquiring it. I don't think the game edited or unedited is for sale at all on PC anymore.

The AO used to be available at Direct2Drive exclusively but once Gamefly took over they got rid off it (bastards). Rockstar worked up a deal with GamersGate and it's now available there.

It's a great stealth game and often overlooked by more popular stealth games like MGS, Splinter Cell, and Thief which is a shame.

You should give Manhunt 2 a go. It looks dated and feels dated but if you enjoyed Manhunt you'll enjoy this one. The AO version's executions are great: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATw6FAmeMdo

Because in America you can still see Mature stuff when your 17 (It is mainly violence) But you can't legally be exposed to sex until your an Adult which is when you reach 18.

I dunno, I just think it's pretty funny and used that pic quite often when someone would ask how Kinect was being used in Mass Effect 3 !

But, I suppose there is truth in what you said. :P
