POE Deadfire flopped hard
https://twitter.com/Aerothorn/status/1060202788989222912
The game isn't out on consoles yet and has had a limited amount of discounts. Plus any known sales figures are from only Steam. Not going to say it's doing amazing without any definitive evidence, but I imagine it is going to be fine when all is said and done.
Plus this is just an anecdotal twitter piece from someone with little to no credibility. Why does this count as any sort of metric?
Furthermore why are you still allowed to post in the first place?

How dare you state the obvious when its obviously is escaping the OP. :)
Uh huh...yeah no, nice try lemmings.
"There’s an obvious option here we’re not going to tiptoe around. Divinity: Original Sin sold 160,000 copies within its first week, becoming Larian’s fastest-selling game and making the studio critical darlings overnight. The sequel had sold over a million copies in two and a half months, and generated $85 million in revenue in 2017 according to SuperData Research."

That's unfortunate, since the game was really good.
Divinity Original Sin 2 is better (in different ways), but I'm surprised that the success of DOS2 hasn't boosted the sales of other good isometric RPGs.
Microsoft is the industry safety net for down and out devs right now. There's probably a ton of people that can't wait to sell their souls to Uncle Phil because their studios are on the downslide.
Hey, as long as Obsidian can give me KOTOR3 with MS blessings of course, I'm okay with that :)
EA has Star Wars rights though. Til that nightmare passes you can sure as shit bet you aren't getting any Star Wars single player only games, much less KOTOR3.
Although the leaked steam csv file has about 200k... still not good
https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/07/steam-data-leak-reveals-precise-player-count-for-thousands-of-games/
Ouch, according to that 90% of GTA V sales are from consoles, no wonder they didn't bother with a PC version of RDR2.
Lmao I remember people on here shitting on Diablo3 and praising these POE games. Now the sales are the complaint.

Can't imagine playing GTAV on consoles, it's so much better on PC. Please continue your beta test of RDR2 for me.

Everything points out that it's a flop and it's just not this twitter account and the csv file. If Obsidian would be doing great they would never go under MS. And I'm a fan of Obsidian, this sucks for every gamer.
Lol and why shouldn't I be allowed to post anymore? Damn, I sure made you butthurt huh.

Deadfire was released only a month or so from DOS2's release. Also PC gamers now automatically waiting for sales, etc.
Some obvious mistakes were made.

Divinity Original Sin 2 sold gangbusters.
Pillars adhered too much to an old formula. While Divinity kept true while modernizing it. It's simply a more "fun" game to play, unfortunately.
Tyranny flopped as well.
This is too bad, because Microsoft would force them to make shitty shallow console games with exclusivity nonsense, microtransactions and all sorts of vile shit.
Sucks someone like Valve couldn't buy them up, give them a budget and some guiding help from true video game mastorz. Oh wells.

What a damn shame! KOTOR was one of those Star Wars games that told a good story RPG I have ever enjoyed, if done right, a KOTOR3 would sell well then the average MP stuff. Disney, why did you give EA Star Wars? Sigh.

Why would Valve buy a game developer ? They have no need of those.
They let go of all of their Half Life writers, they let go of Turtle Rock studios, ...
can't expect to much from an indie developer , POE Deadfire is a great RPG and hopefully with Microsoft help they can properly market their games

Just hypothetical fantasy. Valve did have a sci-fi MMO in development at one point, but for whatever reason was scrapped. Seems like this is where Obsidian would have been useful.

Unrelated (or I guess it is, really), a Portal 2 writer was recently re-hired. https://www.cinemablend.com/games/2454816/portal-2-co-writer-is-back-at-valve

I don't mind Valve trying new things, as long as they also make games for their core fanbase.
If they could have a good mix of card/VR games coming up with say a sequel to a beloved franchise than that'd be great.
Unfortunately Valve makes way too much money from gaming without actually making games.
Some CSGO/TF2 skins costing upwards of 2000 dollars also leads me to believe these kind of "micro-economy" games are the future for Valve. They won't be making another singleplayer game IMHO.

Agree and generally could give a shit about skins. It's sad people put so much investment is such, nothing. But whatever, each to their own. When I accumulated shit on Team Fortress 2, just sold them all. Some doofus dropped £50 on a item.
Nothing against card games, people act like they are terrible, when theirs more gameplay there than your average Naughty Dog game.
can't expect to much from an indie developer , POE Deadfire is a great RPG and hopefully with Microsoft help they can properly market their games
No way MS will put them to make an isometric RPG, MS are all about pursuing blockbusters so I assume they will be making something completely different like a battle royale game lol.

It's just that this is Valve's first game in a long time, so I can get behind people's dissapointement. Same with Diablo Immortal backlash.
The most ironic thing about the mentality of the average steam user is that they aren't willing to spend over 20 dollars for the latest AAA-game but they are willing to spend upwards of hundreds of dollars on a single item in a single game.

MS buying Obsidian is still a rumor , so let's not judge too quickly, I just know Obsidian is full of talented developers and with the right budget they're able to make a masterpiece

Well, theres....
KOTOR 1 and Mass Effect 1, both above 90 on metacritic.
( The first Mass Effect was funded and published by MS before EA bought bioware out from under them. They were heavily rumored to be purchased by Microsoft during this era. )
Then theres KOTOR 2 (86 on meta), which was actually developed by Obsidian.
Three high profile cult classics. That was easy.
They werent good enough to get a job at Sony, or even Nintendo.
But the developers of Haze and Driveclub did get to work for Sony...
I remember the developers of Bubsy 3D also worked for Sony at the end of PS1 era.

Unfortunately History has proved again and again that games actually need to have some marketing budget in order to sell well. Without it they flop pretty badly even if they turn out to be a masterpiece.(Okami , God Hand and others that I don't know about)
@Vaasman: An isometric RPG that is mean for pc's which does not sell well on it is some how going to sell well on councils?
As mentioned, there's no really substantial evidence of how it's selling on display, some vague and highly speculative anecdote, and a dated and unofficial sales leak going against the game. Either way, as far as indie games are going many are selling far better on the Switch than Steam these days because of the Steam oversaturation issue. And a console release almost certainly will include the definitive edition release on PC as well, which is a good way to recharge sales. I would argue based on that that the game will break even if it hasn't yet.
Point being, I wouldn't call this a "flop" as things are. It's a critical success, and it remains to be seen how sales are or will be.
A shame it has not sold well, Pillars is a great series. Tyranny is also worth mentioning here as well.
Not sure what went wrong; it's a niche sub-genre for sure, maybe they just overestimated how much?

Ok so maybe not all hope is lost but it is MS afterall... they frequently turn gold into shit.

GTA V on consoles sucks when directly compared with the PC experience, there's no denying that so stop barking up that tree. If a platform only makes around 10 percent of total revenue for a company, then said company won't make said platform a priority. That's a fact, no matter how much you wanna derail the argument.

As long as it eventually comes, I don't care. I think it likely will.
does this include the people who got it as part of the fig campaign? i.e. do i count as a sale as i backed it? do the investors on fig get some sort of pay back from those?
the game had already raised 4.5 million in revenue before it launched. for a game like POE that's pretty good.

A new Space opera IP dev'ed by Obsidian, similar in general to Mass Effect RPG, could be something super special for the NextBox. :D
