So far Star Citizen is the only game I've seen that gives a hint of a generational leap. Unfortunately not too many devs feel the need to use all that power in PCs becausee there isn't that much pay off financially. Making games with great graphics is expensive. Why spend all that time and money taking advantage of 8TF when you can port console games, boost the graphics a bit and still make a ton of money?

Physx is on consoles, and it was on last gen consoles, higher end effects simply weren't used because the old code was ass. Compare the physx performance in metro 2033 and last light with old code vs metro redux which uses the new code.

PhysX is on consoles only in the basic SDK form. Console PhysX is not GPU accelerated like Nvidia cards on PC. So, it is very limiting and runs off the console CPU.

Correct, but that is a matter of coding, not power. These two benchmarks are from the same hardware and in both cases run the physx effects from the cpu, the massive gulf in performance is the result of poor x86 coding in older iterations of physx.

There is no reason the new consoles couldn't use more complicated effects with the newer code.

I'm buying a PC for gaming when I have the money. Consoles are intolerable now, the loading screens are the worst part. I try to play NHL or Bloodborne and half the frickin time is spent loading, **** that. Bring on the PC glory. I'll buy a new one in 2016 and play Star Citizen amd Witcher 3.

You don't realise how right you are, especially with loading times. Just for an example I can fully reboot, including entering my long, complicated pass word, in around 20 seconds.

There are so many pluses to PC gaming over consoles that far better graphics are just the icing on the cake. You don't need icing for a cake to taste good but it does make it better.
