What is the weakest reason you have ever given for putting a game down and never picking it up again?

For me, it was the soundtrack in I am Setsuna.

Not that the soundtrack is necessarily bad, but the entire thing is piano. Just piano. No drums, no orchestra, no other intruments.

It reminds me so heavily of a crappy church kids play where the piano lady is doing the entire soundtrack, and eventually it became grating enough that I put it down and never picked it up again.

What is yours?

Fallout 4 for the baseball guy. How the hell do you lose the concept of the game when you have ghouls from the time before the bomb that can explain how the game works?

The game is in 3rd-person perspective. It doesn't mean 3rd-person games are bad. It just means I'm burned out on them. I think my remaining backlog are all 3rd-person games.

There are only two reasons that make me give up on a game:

1 - When I'm getting bored of it.

2 - When the game has a cheap frustrating artificial difficulty.

Anything else, I go through it to the end.

Contrary to most people, I don't have a huge backlog because I tend to play one game at a time until I finish it and I don't usually do post game content because most are uninteresting, I only do it in JRPGs like final fantasy, kingdom hearts, Pokemon OR MARIO. Anything else, I just move on.

The dogs in Watch Dogs 2, are they fucking blood hounds or what? and they are basically invincible, eating bullets and shitting them out.

I cant even sell the game because I imported it.

“So I have to watch these movies to understand the story?” - The Uncharted series. I made my wife play through them while I took over during the “shooting parts.” I didn’t have to play too much FYI. TLOU and that Uncharted game on Vita are the only Naughty Dog games I could force myself to finish. But the second they try to turn a game into an interactive visual experience, I’m out.

PlayStation is turning the PS4 into a bluray player...

Devil may cry. I couldn't beat that spider so I turned off the game and didnt play it for 6 months. Luckily I beat him once I came back to it. It's one of my favorite games of all time.

Another one would be the ff15. I can't get over the voice acting so I quit. Not sure if i can pick it up again.

That happens to me a lot. I used to be pretty religious about beating every game I owned during the super nintendo era. But now it's just too easy to drop one game halfway thru when another shiner one comes along.

I'm currently close to the end of :

Max Payne 3

Divinity: os2

Metro: Last light

Doom 2016

Pillars of Eternity

Ni no Kuni 2

South park: stick of truth

XCOM 2

Put them all down, and never picked them up again.

I don't think it's meant to be a horror game. More action adventure, phycological thriller, I think.

Weak shooting in uncharted 4. Dunno the game is just for clicking for me. I moved on to horizon zero dawn and shadow of the colossus. Both of which are far better game.

Battletoads - "f*** this scooter level..."

Demon souls - "f*** the size of the first boss... No one has ever beaten this thing... This games a lie."

Super Ghouls and Ghosts - "f*** me.... "

Ninja Gaiden - "f*** these birds!"

These are the only 4 games I've ever quit.... Everything else I'm still playing. ;)

Dying in tutorial/intro of Fire Emblem Awakening(?).

It seems to be a fixed randomness hardcoded into the copy(?) so every time you try and start that game, you will die in the intro. On my copy at least.

Maybe I should make a video of it ^__^ It's ridiculous. First enemy will crit and kill your protagonist you just created (the only character you have). I'm sure there's a way around it but I was like 'f this'. Also made me reconsider buying TBS games with crits.

If I die too many times in a row in ANY game, it is not worth my time and it is promptly deleted.

Demons souls and dark souls are some of the worst games ever.

Metroid is also a terrible series. It is not fun to backtrack, run into dead ends and general feeling of being lost. Clearing an area, then returning to it literally a second later to have the same enemies I just killed respawn....

Is insanely annoying.

Unpopular opinion but, Fallout 4 was extremely overwhelming for me. With it being my first Fallout and not knowing what gun is essential made life extremely hard for me. I would carry 20 pistols and rifles and always be over the capacity to run. Too much going on in that department let alone crafting and other stuff. Sorry not for me

Fallout 4 - Hated the base building, but wanted to do the minute men story. Got sick of base building and never played again.

Dark Souls 2 - Hated the entire aesthetic of the game and it felt so slow, could not get into it

Dark Souls 3 - Shit got hard halfway in. (I want to go back)

Persona 5 - It is soooooo slow!!!!!! The tutorial is over 8 hours long! I loved the gameplay, but everything else was a chore. I don't have a lot of time to play video games, and I just need a quicker sense of accomplishment when I play.

Breath of the Wild - I'm in the minority here, but damn the climbing. It's super slow and annoying, and good god if it rains

That's off the top of my head.

Beyond getting the Minutemen into Sanctuary, you don't have to do settlements anymore. Personally, I liked having safe areas in enemy territories. But, it's optional. I recall my nephew playing and finishing the game without getting into the settlement and supply route part.

If you found Fallout 4 overwhelming, you'll find Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas even more overwhelming. Anyway, because of the weight limit, I usually looked at damage inflicted to weapon weight ratio for weapons and value to weight ratio for items. I normally had a complement of 4 weapons for myself. The rest are either hoards or scrap.

Once I got power armor, I would overload my character with as much as 600 lbs of stuff and then fast-travel to a store where I sell them.

I hoarded weapons and armor a lot because I wanted to better equip my settlers to beat off attacks. Those pipe pistols of theirs wouldn't do. ;)

For me a game with weight limit = don't pick up anything unless you're sure you want it.

Generally speaking the games are more fun that way. Sometimes even more fun than modding the weight limit out of the game. I get the feeling it's how they want you to play with weight limits and in some games like The Witcher it leads you to not plundering random people's houses which also adds a little to the immersion.

I'm still of the opinion that most games using weight limits would be better off using armor/equipment weight limits instead (how much weight you can actually have equipped), and/or having better sorting options for the inventory and doing away with the inventory weight limit.

Evil Within plays the same scripted cutscenes over and over, and forces you to re-collect a bunch of resources when you die. It's pretty annoying after 4-5 times.

Lot's of cheap insta-you-couldn't-see-that deaths as well.

I was really not enjoying Uncharted Lost Legacy, I slogged through that boring-ass open world bit, got a bit further, encountered a puzzle I fiddled with for about 30 seconds before just going "ah **** this", turned the game off, never started it again.

I enjoyed UC4 but Lost Legacy failed to engage me on any level

I'm the same way...lmao. I'll watch the game a bit on YouTube first; check out a review if ACG has posted one up for said game and I'll dive into a game and give it a go. If it doesn't really grasp me within the first hour or so I'll quit and remove the game and move onto something else. Unless it's a sequel or something to a game I already previously beat. For instance, Kingdom Hearts III. One of my favorite series so I'll for sure be playing it through the end.

I played Demon souls and when first boss killed me in one punch I was like nope. (I finished dark souls and bloodborne later on)

Metal gear rising last boss had some stupid ass phase where you need to move controller in a certain direction? I just couldn't do it correctly and gave up.

Gave up on plenty of JRPGs because lame story. Tales games, final fantasy.

Played 10 minutes of Skyrim, stopped after knowing how bad it is.

Stopped play Need for speed shift because I thought high end car races are boring compared to beginning to the game with low to mid level cars.

Gave up on devil may cry plenty of times because of it environment desgin. Not enjoyable to look at.

Gave up on fallout 4 because it plays bad (forced myself to finish fallout 3)

@uninspiredcup: I feel you, but I didn't find the game that hard, if you knew what you were doing and what to upgrade. I used a guide to help on the upgrades, as for the mosnters, I just ran from everything in sight just like I always do in every survival game since the first silent Hill.

Pokemon Sapphire...twice. One time because I accidentally made a team of all Water Pokemon, and the second time was because I ended up realizing that the second cart I'd ordered was a fake. Sadly far too late to initiate a return policy. Thankfully, there is Alpha Sapphire.

Fallout New Vegas...because the game kept freezing when trying to overtake the Hoover Dam. (PS3 version)

Beutiful Katamari Though it's more of a temporary break. I'd beaten it once before about five years ago but the last level can be a tad tricky if you don't pay attention.

I dunno, I rarely quit games. I gave up on DOOM 2016 about half way through because I was getting no enjoyment out of it and the gunplay wasn't doing anything for me. Gave up on Uncharted 2 for similar reasons. Maybe someday I'll return to them.

problem with that though is that depending on the game you can find it hard to remember what your quest is, or where you're supposed to go next and who to talk to, or even worse yet the controls and mechanics of the game etc

For me that has to be among one of the most frustrating thing EVER in a video game because

1. I like to finish my games. I'm not one of those people that shells out money on a game only to play a few minutes and then leave it looking pretty on a shelf

2. It's frustrating because you've poured in a lot of energy, time, and effort and dedication to get through a 9 hour or in some cases 40 hour game only to get to the end and realize you can never say you finihsed the game because the last boss is just too cheesy and unnecessarily hard. The one game that did that to me was Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks and bitch ass Shao Khan. Me and my sis played all the way to the end only to fail 1000 times at trying to beat him. Still have the save file but it's been almost 9 years since we played I doubt we'd able to just load it up and be able to do it without familiarizing ourselves with the game again and God knows I ain't replaying it from the beginning all over again :-(

Sleep. Also when I was a kid, I abandoned the original Spyro game because I was playing it on a PS2 and my sister unplugged it when I didn't have a way of saving yet. Wasn't down to spend an entire day getting to the final boss again.
