Arsene Wenger last night claimed Lionel Messi was "unstoppable" after his four goal wonder show dumped Arsenal out of the Champions League.

Barcelona superstar Messi simply destroyed Arsenal with one of the all-time great solo performances in the Nou Camp to humiliate Wenger's men.

Gunners boss Wenger admitted: "We lost against a team better than us with the best player in world. He made the impossible possible. He has something exceptional. He is unstoppable.

"He is the best player in the world by some distance. He's (like) a PlayStation. He can take advantage of every mistake we make.

"He has six or seven years in front of him, touchwood that nothing happens to him, and he can reach unbelievable levels.

"Once he's on a run with the ball he's unstoppable, the only player who can change direction at such pace and be a threat."

Wenger was left cursing his bad luck after Arsenal stunned the Nou Camp by taking an early lead through Nicklas Bendtner's opener.

But Messi's stunning solo show - including a first half hat-trick - overwhelmed Arsenal and left Wenger cursing the number of injuries his side had, especially after Sol Campbell failed a late fitness test and Mikael Silvestre filled in.

Wenger added: "We played quite well but every mistake was punished. We had so many injuries and of course now we are disappointed.

"We have to come back from this with a positive reaction and show that we are strong. It's disappointing but we must come back."

Arsenal striker Bendtner insisted that the Gunners should make "no excuses" as he hailed Messi as a "phenonemum".

Bendtner added: "They were a better team than us and deserved to win. Messi scored four fantastic goals and he is a phenomenal player. He is a big part in a great team.

"He is the best player in the world. We had a lot of injuries, but they had a lot of injuries as well. It's easy to make up a lot of excuses but they were the better team than us.

"But I would rather get beaten by a better team than lose in the last minute or something like that.

"We have five games left and the next three will be vital for us, Chelsea and Manchester United. There will be a lot of swapping around at the top.

"But now we can focus on just the Premier League and it's definitely a trophy that we want this season."

So, PlayStation has become a synonym of the highest quality...When will players be likened to Xbox or Nintendo? :o

I'm sorry... that analogy is so vague. I read it three times and still don't understand it. What a weird thing to say.

Good find anyway.

Haha pretty funny. I am an Arsenal fan and Arsene is the best coach ever at fostering young talent and spotting opportunities. Messi is simply phenomenal. His goal against Real on Saturday was incredible. The guy might be the best footballer OF ALL TIME.

Anyway, to shed some light, Arsene is French, there is probably something lost in translation... it's possible he just meant Messi moves and plays like a character in a video game, which I agree with.

I think he meant Messi is like playing on playstation, like he was an unreal character controlled by a player.

I agree, he did something extraordinary that day.

Pele.

And Maradona, and Ronaldinho... your point? I am considering all of them. Messi is playing in a much more competitive environment than Pele and he is making guys that have 100-million-pound contracts look like rookies. Plus is he is TWENTY-TWO! :o I am far from a Messi fanboy, being an Arsenal supporter, but he really is amazing.

Yep, HAZE knows what I'm talkin' 'bout! On that note, I am surprised we have so many footy fans here... can I take it most of you are from the UK? I am from North America but I find 'soccer' fans pretty rare here.

Spot on Hahadouken.Maradona was amazing, but still,he was guarded by two "amateur" defenders and messi is guarded by 4 on average who are much more physically, mentally and footballing advanced then those 25 yrs ago.Pele is not even in competition,i would argue that Ronaldinho in his best was neck and neck with messi now,but mess is much younger,he is more humble and is not party-boy like Roony :)

Yeah I'm from England. Messi is great but until he can be considered among the all time best he must prove himself at the world cup.

TC you misunderstood what he meant. He (and a lot of other people) said he is like a player from the playstation, not that he's like a playstation. because if you're good at any PES game you can dribble past other (human) players easily, not because he's a PS fan and compared him to a playstation

I don't believe in that, it's not the first time I have heard people say this. It's biased against players who may come from a country with a bad national team, if Messi played for Iraq for e.g. they'd still go nowhere and by your logic will never be proven.

You are right, but one thing is wrong,if he proves him self in world cup he is pretty much the best footballer that ever lived, and he could if it wasnt for Maradona...Argentina has amazing team(Kun,Messi,Masceirano,Milito...)but i doubt, with coach like Diego you are pretty much defected for about 50% :)

Which is to happen in a few short months! :D :D :D :D God I can't wait. It's almost... better, somehow, not having my country (Canada) compete. I don't have to blindly cheer for them and I can just watch it all as a sport, with no real hometeam bias. I like France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Netherlands, England, Ireland, C'ote de Ivor... it's gonna be epic! My friend is going to South Africa and he has tickets to 3 Brazil games, including Brazil vs Portugal. I am so jealous, but hey, he's spending like 6 large on his trip, so... I can live with that money in my pocket/going to video games. :P

Pele.

Pele's an old fart right now, he always fails at predicting things,he is one of the best footballers in history but for most people, Maradona and Zidane are better.

Messi is an incredible player but at the same time it's too early to start calling him anything, Look what happened to Ronaldinho, from top to bottom so, Im not saying Messi will be a slacker like what Ronaldinho become but who knows what will happen in the next few years, I don't wish any harm to the guy and Im a big fan of him but who knows, everything could happen.

Another thing to add, Barca is the best Barca now and alot of good players are making it easier for Messi to perform in matches , Put him in Argentina and see how he performs, he can't do **** compared to what he does in Barca and Arsenal is known for it's open play, lets see what he could do with InterMilan on the other hand just see what Maradona, Ronaldo ( Brazilian Ronaldo ) and Zidane did with every team they played with.

And nobody could do what Maradona did, the guy went to one of the weakest teams ( Napoli ) and took the cup.

messi is amazing (and 100x better than the overrated C. Ronaldo), but that analogy was just plain stupid even on top of the fact that it didn't make sense since the ps3 is still losing even if its starting to catch up to the 360 now

just because pele is old now doesn't mean he isn't the best of all time at his peak, even if he couldn't predict everything like some other people he still had an amazing shot and could keep his cool while in the world cup final :P
