TC's kinda right besides Nintendo the Japanese are stuck a gen or two back with there game development, it seems all the innovations this gen is coming from western or Indie devs while Japanese devs fall back on stuff they've already done.Sp4rtan_3well that was excepted its a small island vs the rest of the world.
I don't know what it is about the Japanese, but it seems that if a game doesn't contain a recognisable face they've known for 20-30 years, they'll shun it.
No wonder Nintendo are so huge over there. I think there is a bit of xenophobia involved too. Thank goodness us Westerners are more open-minded to new IP's.

Xenophobia is not restricted to the Japanese as I have seen Western gamers acting xenophobic on elements found in many JRPGs, such as feminine-looking male characters (often called "bishounen" or "pretty boys") which seem strange to them.
If a new IP is to be successful in Japan, it needs to strongly appeal to Japanese tastes and culture practices. It is often hit and miss.
The fact that Western developers are advancing in technology is due to to the part of the industry is booming in the West (there is more capital and talent available). What if the industry boom declines and there is less capital and many technical workers are laid off, will Western devleopers continue to be innovative?
well that was excepted its a small island vs the rest of the world. Size of a country has nothing to do with how innovative you are :?[QUOTE="Sp4rtan_3"]TC's kinda right besides Nintendo the Japanese are stuck a gen or two back with there game development, it seems all the innovations this gen is coming from western or Indie devs while Japanese devs fall back on stuff they've already done.SLI_Gamer
Hes talking about technical graphics , an area that is impossible for the Wii to excell t as the hardware is essentially a decade old.

Admittedly the OP was extremely vague, but then he also posted this;
Yeah I'm not talking about graphics. disismycomp
[QUOTE="Yandere"]Actually it very much does.Hes very much right about a lot of games. What would Uncharted be without stellar graphics? The gameplay is nothing special, but the visuals make up for it. And dont try to say I never played it. I have, it feels odd compared to some of the more grounded feeling tps on 360.Cool, too bad that doesn't make the games better.

Are you sure Westerners are more open-minded? Because so far, more games, example Demon Soul, from Eastern developers that play more like Western games, than there are Western developers making games that are like Eastern developers.I don't know what it is about the Japanese, but it seems that if a game doesn't contain a recognisable face they've known for 20-30 years, they'll shun it.

but population, you cant except that 120 millions taste has to be the one for the rest of the world.
Complexity is not necessarily a good thing, i find the Japanese to be far more innovative, the don't just make standard shooters over and over like the western ones do.The complexity in western games is so apparent compared to Japanese games(especially to JRPGs).

It would also make less sense for a western developer to try in cater to the japanese.
I think it has been like this for over a decade now. Western devs are all about making new advancements in games and Japanese devs don't do crap. Whether you think that matters or not isn't the point. Look at the latest RDR multiplayer video. You don't see that kind of tech in Japanese titles. Look at Crysis, you would never see that much tech in a Japanese title. I feel that western devs are doing a better job with this, it doesn't seem Japanese devs make it a priority probably because most of them aren't funded well enough.disismycomp
-.0? interesting how you tout a SHOOTER, something Japanese games are not known for, as your basis of arguement. To me it seems that the western audience is more akin to multiplayer and shooter esque games based on tech while Japanese games focus on immersion of single player and story.
oh the irony :roll:I don't know what it is about the Japanese, but it seems that if a game doesn't contain a recognisable face they've known for 20-30 years, they'll shun it.

the west actually accounts for most of the sales for the so called recognisable faces games youre going on about.
[QUOTE="Origami_Kill3r"][QUOTE="brennan7777"]"looks at pre rendered ff13 cutscences" considering how linear the gameplay is, that's not saying much :|Its becaues the Japanese arent graphic whores.
Dead-Memories
While I disagree that Japanese devs aren't advancing tech, this is a bad example. Good looking pre-rendered cutscenes aren't exactly cutting edge (looks at diablo2).
Technology means everything, apparently. I don't care much how the technology is, a good game is a good game. And, personally, I think the Japanese release better games this generation.
Yeah I'm not talking about graphics. The impressive techof Crysis is the graphics. AI really isnt anything special. The physics are nice but have been done in other games. Cryisis Physics are still one of a kind for both PC's and consoles ¬_¬ Its ridiculous what is processed in real time.[QUOTE="disismycomp"][QUOTE="brennan7777"]
