Western RPG'S vs. JRPG's

What type of RPG do you prefer; The traditional Japanesse RPG like Final Fantasy or the Western type RPG like Oblivion.

I prefer Western RPG's. I never found turn based fighting fun or realistic at at all. Western RPG's like Oblivion and Mass Effect I find more interesting as they are more "role playing" and action based.

What do you think?

I like 'em both. Western RPGs work better on PCs for some reason.

I think he was being sarcastic. Just like not all JRPGS look the same, obviously not all wrpgs are the same.

Wester rpgs.. Somehow I love biowares DnD games.. eventhough they are pretty muchall the same.. (KOTOR is a lil different)..

Ah well.. there is always fallout and stuff.

Ah well, I like JRPGS quite a bit too.. Just that I got pretty bored of them.. Although I can still remember playing Chrono trigger the firsttime, tought it was the best game ever.. and still think kinda.. (If I played it again im afraid I would be darn disappointed by it.)

Both is a cop out. The question is which do you like better. You have to like one genre better than another.

I just said everyone has his own preferences. For me the few jrpgs i played all looked ( i mean felt) exactly to same me to me wrt to overall theme and setting

Well, both are sub-genres but JRPG's and WRPG's vary greatly and should not be labeled just under RPG.And to answer your question it is impossible to like both equally. You have to like one slightly more. There has to be a special game in either sub-genre that just blew you away.

Nope. There's quite a few on both sides, not really any single one. Most of them are older games too.

I know I don't like the same number of games on both sides put on completely equal terms, but it's difficult for me to say which I like more.

I do play more WRPGs nowadays, but only because I'm mainly a PC gamer. The last 2 RPGs I beat were Neverwinter Nights 2 and Ys: The Oath in Felghana (more of an action game, heh.)

Edit: Also note that I'm mainly a FPS gamer, too. I don't spend a ton of time with RPGs.

JRPGs seem to be pretty restrictive, and I like alot of freedom in my games so I'll go with WRPG. Also I like WRPG titles better.jrhawk42

WRPG for me. I like be immersied into the world ofan RPG and I get that from the more 'realistic' style of WRPG's.

This is not to say JRPG's are bad but they always seem to have over-the-top characters, spikey hair and a cartoony theme which doesn't wash for me.
