[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"]Carmack has had a huge impact... but he is eclipsed very easily by Miyamoto. PC gaming would have survived had Nintendo not released the NES... but gaming would never be the same without Mario.EggHeadMan
Gabe Newell is more influential than Miyamoto, me thinks ehhh...not really. he just made Half Life and the Source Engine. (and of course, Steam). but the other beloved franchises that used Source like Counter-Strike, Portal, etc. were jsut really mods and from other people outside Valve. even the idea of Left 4 Dead was not originally Gabe's or Valve's.
Miyamoto, on the other hand, made Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong, etc. heck, even Mario inspired the creation of Sonic. Zelda was the very first game that is for the home. Mario, DK, everything back then can be found on arcades. but Zelda came along and it was too long for the arcade, that's why it was made for the consoles. and not only that, but it also had a save feature. also, it spawned the creation of open-world games. you can literally go and explore anywhere in Zelda, on caves adn dungeon or just on plain grass. very revolutionary. it was the first game that does not have a 'High Score' label on the upper part of the screen. you just progresss.
