First of all i am right handed, but last night i randomly though about all of the left handed gamers. The controllers for the ps3 and xbox have pretty much all of the action buttons on the right, and i was thinking how i wouldn't like it if they were all on the left because i would have to like train my left hand. Anyways to make this worthy of system wars i then thought of the wii controller and nunchuck and how it doesnt matter at all if you are right of left handed lol. So what do you guys think the whole situation does the wii appeal to left handed people more? haha by far the most random topic i have ever thought of lol

Im left handed and its not a problem at all. Because that is how controllers have always been, its something you get used to. I even used my right for my mouse....

Cait__Sith

this, i started gaming on an NES and personally i find the controllers to be perfectly comfortable. i like having the movement on the left and action on the right, heck i thought pads were MADE for left handed people. that being said i also play a righty guitar so i think its just whatever you get used to when you first start playing.

Being left handed doesn't mean you're retarded. You can adapt.

Yeah left handed mouse would actually feel weird to me after I've adapted to using my right hand.

I didn't even have to adapt. It just came straight away.

Well yeah I also started on a right hand mouse (lets just say the adaptation was like 5 minutes :P )

same here, right handed mice feel normal, always have. i've tried using my mouse in my lefty and my friend had an ergonomic lefty mouse and it all just felt weird.

I kind of always felt that controllers were better suited for us lefties because of the control stick/pad being on the left. To me, this requires much more coordination then right-handed button presses. Although this might explain why I hate games that use the right analog stick, and do find the Wii and particularly the Zapper better.

Most games require the use of both hands pretty evenly. The main controls are a lot of modern games are the dual sticks (both thumbs) and the 4 shoulder buttons (both index and/or middle fingers). Beyond that, most games allow for custom button mapping. Want the trigger to be L2 instead of R2? Fine, swap em. Rather run with the right stick and look with the left? again, swap em. You could possibly even swap the square/triangle/x/circle buttons with up/down/eft/right d-pad on some games. On the PS3, anyway. Probably not so much with the 360, since the d-pad sucks, and also switching the role of the sticks may be awkward since the sticks aren't symetrically placed.

In fact, i would think swapping the wii-mote and nun-chuck from right handed to left handed would be more of a problem than using a gamepad southpaw would be. I mean unless the game has a place to swap it in the options, wouldn't switching them make everything backwards? Boxing on wii sports, for instance. you jab the chuck forward to make a left jab, the wii-mote for a right jab. If you are holding them in the wrong hand, wouldn't that make it weird? I guess they probably have settings to adjust it for most games, just like most ps3/360 games have settings to change button-mapping.

So yeah, for the most part, left-handed vs. right handed is not a big deal, certainly not some point of ownage for the wii.

Ive had no problems with any game (except GTA: CW) for being left handed.

I dont even know how some people can have difficulties using a controller

To me, it's always been backwards until dual analog sticks came around. Before da, if you were right handed your right hand just controled action buttons. No finesse is required or anything. It's just press A to shoot, B to jump, etc. Meanwhile, the hand that you have worse motor control over is that one that has to do all of your movement and things that need more finesse.

If right handed people can learn to use their off hand for the most complex movements, I don't feel too sorry about lefties having to use their primary hand to do stuff you'd expect the primary hand to do. If anything it should be easier imo.

oh wow and i thought i was the only leftie here. yea, since i was accustomed to the PC and Mega Drive in the early 90's, i game using the default layout. although i must say *sometimes* it's hard to aim if you really need that sensitivity to be precise on the right analog stick (basically, my right thumb is abit dmb), but i do fine on face buttons. there has never been a controller for lefties, or when i was little there were no left-handed mouse settings (windows 93 i think). so yea...we can adapt you know. :D

honestly my biggest problem is w/ grenades, and a few shooters.

Since I'm left handed I align myself to take cover on the right side. Then when I go to throw a grenades my guy throws w/ his right hand and it hits the wall.

I've also ran into a few problems on the DS. Some games require you to hit on the right side of the touch screen while watching something on the left side of the screen. If you're left handed you basically cover up the left side of the screen to touch the right.

Honestly though the things I've found in games is nothing compared to the problems I've seen in real life.

I'm left handed and I can even use the mouse with the right hand easily for gaming, although I'll have to admit that if i have to draw something with the mouse it would be a HELL NO to the right hand.

But obviously it depends because there are various reasons to be "left or right handed". It can be a whole arm thing, it can be a only the overall control from the elbow or the wrist areas, or the dexterity of the fingers as a whole or individually.

Anyways gamepads nowadays are made so that you only use your thumbs and index fingers, and even if the all the face buttons are to the left the action buttons(shoulders and triggers) are equally balanced for the index fingers and there are two analogues for your thumbs.
