It's a question that you could have just Googled. There's not a whole lot of room for discussion is there?
It depends on the mod. Oblivion Oscuro Overhaui (OOO), for example, completely redesigns Oblivion's gameplay and adds a lot of new itens, NPCs, quests and dungeons. It actually turns the game into a playable, almost-decent RPG. You can finally feel your character progressing, getting stronger as you level up. The world doesn't completely turns around you anymore. ;)

So far it seems like a healthy discussion. I appreciate your input but Id rather you answer the question. Otherwise GTFO, thanks man. 8)
Whatever.
I just think Yahoo Answers would have been an appropriate location for your question, not System Wars.

Nah I'm just messing around. We have an active PC Community that I figured would provide me with some decent insight regarding the topic. Since Im at the office I cant really check videos (Bandwith Issues) so I was hoping to see some ofthe bestpics/suggestions of what I should playsince there is an abundance of Mods out there. Speaking of which, I will edit the title.
What Are Some Of The Best Mods Out There?
Heroldp813
Few examples:
Dota - launched new genre
Dark Mod - it turns Doom3 into fully features (and improved gameplay-wise) clone of Thief, for community to make fan missiosn for (and damn..they sure do)
Project Reality - turns arcadish Battlefield 2 into one of the very best tactical shooters ever made.
Nehrim - 50 hours campaign for Oblivion, with new lands, quests, story, characters etc. Bassicaly a brand new sequel.
the sith lords restoration mod. i dont use a lot of mods really but this one is great. what the modders did what obsidian should have done imo.

Gameplay wise, new skills, new dungeons, monsters, you can fix level scaling, fix combat, new animations, quests, npcs, new weapons and armor, villages, companions and you can ride even a dragon. Oblivion has been the heaven for modders for quite a while but my guess is that Minecraft is taking its place now. Modders are going wild in there although it may change once Skyrim gets out.
As for what's the best mod of all time. I'll give that to Dota. Today there are millions of people playing dota clones, tournaments, big party lans and it all started with a simple mod for warcraft 3.
Wow, I actually like the original a lot better in that pic... The door and hinges look way too shiny and plastic-y, the textures look stretched over the face of the steps, and personally, I think the walls look pretty bad. The stones ought to be a lot smoother. A few really pitted ones mixed in maybe, but not all of them, and the gaps should be a little wider, and not so perfectly squared. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the guy that made that texture had never actually seen stone masonry before? The road is a little over-detailed as well. For a wide paved roadway, they'd use much larger pavers, the larger the stones, the less you have to lay. they might use some smaller ones to fill in cornes where the big ones don't fit just right. The new part looks more like loose gravel than it does a paved road. Really, the only thing that looks better in this pic to me, is less visible aliasing (whether that's due to the new textures hiding it, or more AA being used, I don't know). Here'a an example of a mod can do

I'm not denying mods can make a game look better, but IMO, this particular one fails at that, at least in this pic.

Somehow I managed to read all of that. That mod is just replacement textures, so i don't really get what you're complaining about. It's the same as the original but higher resolution. The stones are the same shape etc. I have that mod.Mods can implement whole new game types or even be a whole new game themselves. Such as Nehrim: At Fate's Edge for Oblivion, The Nameless Mod for Deus Ex, DoTA form Warcraft III, VS Saxton Hale for Team Fortress 2, gun game for CSS.

The stones are the same shape etc. I have that mod.Yes. I realize it's just replacement textures. What I'm saying is the new textures, while higher res, are not as good artistically. When I was talking about size/shape of stones, I didn't mean the models, I meant in the textures. If they were the same, the mortar lines would all line up along the diagnal (well, the mortar lines in the original, and the thin black cracks in the mod, since they opted for the mortarless construction look).I'd say Nehrim is one of the best mods made, ever. It's an entirely new campaign with over 30 hours of gameplay. The Nameless Mod is an entire new game as well. They can also fix/improve on games like Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. Of course mods are still pretty overrated here and I only install them on 10-15% of my games or so.
