What are the AAA franchises?

Lets list the AAA Franchises out there, and for fun the popular franchises that are not AAA.

- only games on main consoles and PC to be considered (no handheld games considered)

- only 'main games' in the franchise to be considered (no expansion packs etc.)

- must have more than 1 game released under the franchise

- each of these games has received AAA status

AAA Franchises:

But I believe KOTOR is one. If we say only game out of the franchise needs to be AAA then we could throw names like Tony Hawk in there.

What, AAA based on GS scores, Press Averages, User Averages, opinion?

If it IS purely on GS scores, then that's really not a good way to do this sort of thing. A GS review is made by ONE PERSON (albiet a professional, but still), whereas the Press/User averages are a collaborative opinion respresenting a (generally) more accurate description of a game's worth.

Of course, that statement itself is just my opinion, it's your thread in the end. I'd humbly suggest you try it my way though.

Ok, I can understand you want to use review scores as the basis for your list (was actually looking for frachises that matched that criteria, nothing yet), fair enough, but seriously, anything under a 9.0 a dud?

Diablo 2:- 8.5

MGS:- 8.5

LoZ TP:- 8.8

LoZ OoT (VC edition):- 8.9

Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind:- 8.7 

And that's just a few random examples off the top of my head, I could add a MASSIVE amount to that list. Care to explain how these games were 'duds'? :?

Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross both got over 9.0

As for Warcraft II on PS, it is main franchise game but ported. So it is part of their franchise. Like you said, they should've thought about it before releasing a dud right?

Also Dragon Quest IX is exclusive on nintendo DS, would you say it's not part of main franchise because it is handheld game?

Seven Kingdoms II: The Fryhtan Wars - 9.1
Seven Kingdoms = AAA Franchise

Resident Evil 2 - 8.9
Resident Evil = Not AAA Franchise

Diablo II - 8.5

Man, Seven Kingdoms is crap and Diablo 2 is one of the best games ever made. RE 4 pretty good also.

 RE 4 got 9.6 but I say Diablo 2 is much better.

RE 4 got 9.6 but I say Diablo 2 is much better.

The fact that RE4 got a 9.6 has no consequence upon Resident Evil being an AAA Franchise, as Resident Evil ( 8.2 ), Resident Evil 2 ( 8.9 ) and Resident Evil 3 ( 8.8 ) did not make AAA.

If just one game in the main series of the franchise does not receive AAA, that franchise is cut from the list.

He's asking for "elite AAA franchises" whatever that means.... I think it means something along the lines of if you have a series of games which got AAA score on GS and one of those games in the series happens to be an AA, then the hole series or franchise or whatever is a flop in otherwords... where is the sense in that.. If this is his reality then it sucks imo :|

You make the standards too hard. It should be that if the scores of all the games in the main series (no spin-offs) average AAA, then it's a AAA franchise.helium_flash
