I got my replacement PS4 and Switch, baby. Been playing Last of Us 2 the past week. Have close to 20 hours in. This is a pretty lengthy game. I'm guessing I have like 5 more hours left. It's been an awesome experience so far, definitely a contender for GOTY. And then after that I'll be hopping back into Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition. Not a bad weekend, indeed. What about you, SW? What are you playing this weekend? Oh, and I put in an order for Wario colored joy-cons. Should I keep or cancel?!

Remnant: From the Ashes.

I've been trying to get into Souls-likes for years. In theory, it's a genre I should like; I like dungeon crawling, I like action RPGs, and I like getting smashed in the face by a flying brick wall, just for the high of when I eventually smash it back and actually break it. I tried Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin, but my eyes glazed over the moment I saw the character and inventory screens, and I kept feeling like I had to wrestle with the controls to get anywhere. So I gave up.

So I looked for another game. Souls-like is a very popular genre, which proved a double-edged sword; there are a lot of options, but it took a long time to go through. In the end, I narrowed dozens of candidates down to just two: Remnant: From the Ashes and Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. Remnant clinched it by being cheaper and not needing Origin.

So far, pretty fun. Had to get used to the "aim to shoot" controls, which wasn't too hard because I've played Resident Evil 5. Yeah, the boss fight adds are a bit annoying, but I personally didn't have too much problem with them so far, and every time I died I still felt like it was my fault. Now, to see if I can solve a problem I hear is common in Souls-likes; I can't find any weapon that's better than my starting rifle...

@madrocketeer: that's one of IP Dailys favorite games. If you want a Souls like experience in platformer form try Hollow Knight.

Come on, I'm not about to sleep every night snuggling up to a Xbox and start shitting on games that don't have hunks of metal that go "vroom" in them. I just consider it a nice and familiar entryway into Souls-likes. I have Hollow Knight: Silksong on my GOG wishlist and plan on giving Dark Souls II another go once I'm done with Remnant.

I finally eased up on my ban on buying new games due to actually finishing up some games, disregarding some games after trying them and...well...the steam sale :D.

No more xenoblade for me which is kinda sad :(. looking forward to number 3/X2. hopefully monolithsoft are fully back on form.

anyway i finished portal 1 (another off the backlog...i know shameful i left it so long) and am now onto portal 2 (which has one of the greatest intros to a game ever).

I got two point hospital (+ expansions), cities skylines (and a bunch of expansions) and stellaris (and an expansion or 2). i think i just undid all the work of clearing my backlog :S.

i have been a bit addicted to two point hospital since i got it. its quite fun making profit off the suffering of oth.....i mean helping virtual people :P. it's a bit easy so far but its a nice and relaxing game.

i may tackle stellaris a bit this weekend also.

Recently picked up a new 2DS XL for $140 Canadian at a local Walmart. I’ve had an original 3DS ever since it launch and I’ve been wanting to get the newer system for the bigger screens, faster processor, extra analog stick, etc. for awhile now. It looks like they’re clearing out the inventory and there were only two left so I jumped at the chance and grabbed one. Such a nice improvement over the original. I have a bunch of 3DS games in my backlog and this will make it so much better to go back and play some of those.

Other the that I’ll definitely be playing more Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition on the Switch. Swimming has now come to ACNH. Woo hoo!

P4G. Goofed, and thought I had Adachi's S Link at 6 and didn't realize until December. I keep a save spot per day, but I couldn't go back far enough. Gonna have to NG+ for the Golden content.

Was in the middle of both Dark Souls 3 and FFXII TZA and just not motivated to continue either. Both good games, just ran out of steam.

Soooo just been messing around in MGSV with the Infinite Heaven mod. Always been a dope mod, but they added a lot to it since last I used it.

It's some weird shit tho. Its like its become a struggle for me to finish longer games. Yet I'll play the **** out of a shorter game so much that I spend more time on it than a longer game. Like SOR4, less than 2 hrs long, racked up about 70 hrs on it real quick. Similar with DMC5, about a 10 hr game, got 80 hrs out of it in a few weeks time. And still want to play both lol.

Bah, don't mind me, I'm old and jaded. Rocking back and forth on my chair on the porch, clutching my shotgun in one hand and waving a cane in the other at those damn kids to get off my bloody lawn. When you're as jaded as I am and seen as much bullshit as I have, you learn to take things less seriously - including yourself.

I'd say many people could benefit from learning that same lesson, but bah, don't mind the rambling of some old codger like me.

@ConanTheStoner: I get that. I tend to struggle to finish longer games these days, even ones I really like.

I've avoided replaying DS3 because I know that same thing would happen to me lol even though it's my favorite Souls game. Shorter games are more digestible and less intimidating to go back to.

I have a love/hate relationship with Control. The gameplay is cool, but the game itself is boring/tedious lol.
