All I know is I will NOT be listening to the reviewers including Gamespot. No way was GTA IV worth a 10, its 8 at best.

[QUOTE="jg4xchamp"] But on what grounds is it ridiculous. I'm not exactly in Jethro's camp of calling both GTA 4 and RDR **** barrels. I'll admit I had my fun with those games. But Rockstar's been hitting more grounders than homeruns. arkephonic
Well I was reading some of your complaints like framerate, characters, story, gameplay, lack of polish...
It's not going to have the same level of polish as a linear game like Uncharted, because of the amount of things you can do, the amount of freedom you have to move around, you know, a sandbox game.
I can't think of a single sandbox game that plays better than GTA4. Just Cause has such wonky physics, and driving around in the vehicles just doesn't feel all that good. When you shoot people, they float around in the air very unrealistically, weird things like that.
I don't think the engines in Just Cause, Saints Row, or any other sandbox game like Infamous, perform as well or as impressive technically as the RAGE Euphoria engine.
Okay, Jethro. I'm not going to argue with you, because it is very clear that you have a selective and sensitive preference in video games.
Not for arguments sake, just out of curiosity, may I ask what some of your favorite games this generation are?

Sure. And with brief explanations for each.
New Vegas - a masterful RPG. Great writing, excellent, multi-layered quest design, and the best faction system ever seen in the genre.
BioShock - a blend of sloppy, ectastic FPS violence and high-end psychedelics. Utterly original, from a thematic standpoint; the first legitimate narrative parody of Randian philosophy, and a brilliant and singular work in its own right.
Dead Rising - a fine evocation of the philosophy that gamers ought to be left to their own devices. A smart, hilarious storyline, which subverts Romero as much as it apes him, a gloriously open real-time structure, exceptional replayability, and an uncanny ability to, even after multiple playthroughs, surprise me with its constant inventiveness and perverse sense of humor.
Twilight Princess - razor sharp gameplay, superb puzzle and dungeon design, coupled with gorgeous art and music. In other words, a Zelda game. I have yet to play Skyward Sword.
Silent Hill: Homecoming - layered and deceptively dense, a game that astounds on multiple playthroughs. That its art design and music are incredible can't hurt, nor that its bosses are among the best in gaming, nor that its combat boasts actual weight and challenge, but what really sinks it is the increasingly disturbing number of thematic overlays present in the game. Minute details from just moments into Homecoming are portents and predictions of the things which are to come, and the game itself is cyclical, a never-ending loop of attempts at redemption, brought only to a satisfactory close by the player putting the game away and ceasing to physically play it. I could write a lengthy essay simply about the game's use of one particular number, so subtle is its overall design. These subtleties were missed, of course, by our 'play it once and drop it' modern product reviewers.

I could add many others, but those are the top contenders.

Interesting. I can't really comment on any of those as I have not played any of them. Although, I do have New Vegas, Twilight Princess and Bioshock sitting on the shelves, but they have been backlogged for quite some time and I have not gotten around to playing them.
Out of your descriptions, Silent Hill Homecoming actually sounds the most intriguing to me. It sounds like the perfect game for me. I know people will cry foul when I say this, but I have never played a Silent Hill game before. Resident Evil is one of my favorite franchises in gaming, and I especially like the earlier games, particularly 3, back when it was true survival horror.
Based on the things I've heard surrounding the Silent Hill franchise, it sounds like one that I would probably like a little too much........
>likes survival horror >didn't play Silent Hill 1, 2, and 3(especially 2) What is this? I don't even. jg4xchamp
I guess I'll get the HD Collection on March 20th, and maybe a used copy of Silent Hill if I can find it.

Silent Hill 3 is the best so I'd play that first. Don't let anyone tell you differently.
And no there arn't any SH2 spoilers in it. Their stories don't really have anything to do with one another,
You'd be on one side of the map and *phone call* come bowling with me on the other side of the map? and if you didnt go it would hurt your friend rating.CwlHeddwyn
I just called up Roman for a ride, you get to anywhere you want in plenty of time. That's how I did the majority of the missions in IV. The only times I drove during missions is when it was absolutely necessary.
After GTA4, L.A Noire and Red Dead Redemption I honestly think Rockstar is getting old. It really feels like they're doing the samething Activision is with CoD. Copy and paste where even it's worse in every game there's even less things to do as they go on. So from Rockstars last few games what do you guys expect from them?
After playing saints row the third, my expectations for GTA5 have gone soo low now that I've know what can be done with a game like GTA. I don't expect them to do any better than GTA4, nor the missions nor story.. probably the same type of story again.
Joedgabe
That's insulting. What Activision is doing with CoD is really copy and paste. Rockstar copies and pastes some things while creating another new amazing thing.
Red Dead Redemption was a HUGE leap for me from GTA4. That's just my opinion.
[QUOTE="JohnF111"]I expect no more dull gray concrete. I expect action like any good GTA should have without trying to be sim, why should i have to decide between going bowling or upsetting a friend. Silly game mechanic. Just make it San Andreas with a brand new character and story and if possible more content. Loads more :DCwlHeddwynthat annoyed me sooo much. You'd be on one side of the map and *phone call* come bowling with me on the other side of the map? and if you didnt go it would hurt your friend rating.
I never answered the calls. Little Jacob hated me. Packie on the other hand loved me.
2 things:
- More like GTA: SA and less like GTA IV
- no half-assed PC port
if it doesnt meet these requirements, they aint getting my money anymore
buying properties definitly, perhaps even a system where you own one large property and continually upgrade it (add garage, cars, add helicopter pad, helicopters, add dock, boats, add runway, planes)
no more hanging out with friends for no reason
none of that pointless San Andreas crap, working out, eating makes you fat, ect
some big name actors and better music (although thats completly subjective, more cla ssic rock for me though pelase)
Lazlow, of course
keeping the serious vibe from GTA IV
A better multipalyer system, no idea how, but something
A full-on complete co-op, with both online and local support. no need to contort the story to have two protagnists, we're cool with another guy magically appearing next to us
A good PC port, preferably through steam
I'd like to see persistent customizable cars, though I can understand people prefering to leave that out.

Gotta love Lazlow
GTA suits multiplayer very well, and I thought GTA IV was a good first attempt. Sure, in terms of the competitive side of the multiplayer it wasn't very good and was pretty barebones. But free roam is a fantastic addition to the series. We've all wasted god knows how much time in GTA games just messing around in the open world. GTA IV just lets us do this with other people online, which I thought was pretty fun. RDR improved the free roam by giving us things to do and the ability to level up in free roam. Another expansion of this with GTA V would give the game much greater longevity. Especially if Rockstar bring back all the awesome stuff from San Andreas. With a lot more toys to play around with in that sandbox, free roam online could be absolutely insane! Even in GTA IV where there wasn't much to do, I had an insanely fun time messing around in free roam online. Just imagine how awesome it could be in GTA V if they do it right.Get rid of that Godawful multiplayer, and instead focus on enviornment, content, and attention to detail.
And port the game to PC AFTER firing those who ported GTA IV

Does anyone want GTAV to go back to its old cartoonish roots when Saint's Row does the exact same thing? I kinda want Rockstar to now perfect the 'cinematic' version they're doing.FrozenLiquidTHIS. THIS and more this. I think more than anyone they tend to understand how to do a cinematic game without making you sit through super long cutscenes. And they are masters at picking the right music for their games.
Eww Silent Hill games that came after Silent Hill 3 jg4xchamp
Was just about to say.
Other than decent voice acting by the lead, I thought Homecoming was a fairly average game, if not worse at some points
I expect Rockstar to try their very best (not saying much) to craft a highly cinematic, meaningful story. I expect them to fail miserably. I expect them to stitch that weak, overwrought story togetherjethrovegas
I think part of the reason the backlash against Rockstar amongst forum gaming geeks is not because Rockstar stories have started sucking, they've actually started being good. They're just not good at being conventionally fun video games (yet).
I've noticed but never mentioned that gamers like their stories so far stuck up its own arse, coming out of some obscure orifice, then stuck up its arse once again in proud self-mutliation before they consider it good. Think Metal Gear Solid. Think the favourite games of RPG Codex. The question is why do they like these asinine plots? It's probably got to do with the constant interaction that makes it better to use than stories which traditionally survive in film and literature.
The stories in GTAIV and RDR were good, especially the latter which is nigh exceptional except for the dragged out Mexico bit. I can understand they weren't generally fun to play. L.A Noire was just utter B.S. Then again, Brian McNamara was never a good writer or storyteller to begin with.
[QUOTE="Joedgabe"][QUOTE="princeofshapeir"] you're literally retarded GTA IV and RDR have revived any hope I have left in gaming. LA Noire was not developed by Rockstarprinceofshapeir
You must be new into Playing GTA's... or Sandbox games... if not then you're a trooper. After playing GTA3, GTA Vice City, and GTA SA i expected more improvement but it just went down hill starting GTA4 it was all repetitive missions with lack of motivations... and then they made RDR which.. is Grand theft auto 4 on a horse basically the story was alright though. Lastly i didn't know Noire was from different developers... kinda makes it worse that they're throwing the sandbox formula around like that.
-played GTA III -nearly completed vice city -beat san andreas -beat GTA IV and thought it was the best GTA game ever made, and one of the best games this generation RDR is not GTA IV on a horse, GTA IV's missions are not repetitive (if you want repetition try out SA--zero mission depth with one-dimensional characters to prolong the narrative), and everyone's just mad as hell that GTA IV scored a 10 and RDR walked away with GOTY in 2010Can I get a halelujua! I loved GTA 4. Even devs grow up a little. The more adult themed story and characters were a nice change to me. I like when devs try to switch things up a little. GTA 4 and SC Conviction were great at this imo.if MGS4 deserved a 10, GTA IV deserves a goddamn 11All I know is I will NOT be listening to the reviewers including Gamespot. No way was GTA IV worth a 10, its 8 at best.

after GTA4 I dont have any high expectations. Game was so boring and the characters were so freaking uninteresting imo.

Agreed. I know that GTA and RDR's plots are basically ideas mashed together from films of the same genre, but they seem to understand what made those movies great in the first place. Great characters, music and dialog all taking place in a completely believable location. Say what you want about the games but I still think that no other open world game does their worlds better than Rockstar. It adds an whole extra dimension of character to their games. I love the crime stories GTA tells. They all have a distinct flavor that I haven't seen any other open world crime game touch.I was really happy that Saint's Row decided to go full out stupid, they were outclassed by Rockstar's world building and by going over the top they found their niche. S3 was all the better for it.
GTAIV is my favorite GTA, yet. I enjoy the serious tone of the game. Hoping GTA V pulls off the serious tone with more stuff to do and more color.
1. LA Noire wasn't even really an open world game, it used the massive map as atmosphere 2. Rockstar did no develop LA Noire. 3. LA Noire is one of the best games of this console generation, if ask me. As is GTA 4 and RDR So yeah, Im not actually expecting anything specific. I just expect it to be a good game. After GTA4, L.A Noire and Red Dead Redemption I honestly think Rockstar is getting old. It really feels like they're doing the samething Activision is with CoD. wow, level 1 alt bumbed a year old thread. Epic thread revival!
I pre-ordered Saints Row 4 based on my SR3 playthrough, and the hands on impressions that are on the verge of shredding the NDA.
Haven't pre-ordered GTA 5 because GTA 4, it had its moments but overall it felt too serious and standard in comparison. Also all the characters acting tough and the bad voice acting started to annoy me and the driving felt worse and I was really missing the humor.
If GTA5 is funny then I will buy it because I am very interested in the 3 character setup. But if its vibe is a lot like GTA 4 I might pass. A nonfunny crime sandbox game just doesn't grab me. It's like making me play a WW2 cinematic FPS game.
