I am a massive fan of Far Cry 3. It's easily one of my favorite last gen games. Exploration is great, the guns sound, look and feel great, the story had a pretty good start (but admittedly went downhill), the main missions are excellent and quite varied (though the side content is admittedly repetitive), there are a lot of ways to approach missions, I like the randomness, etc.

But I'm not feeling Far Cry Primal. Maybe I'm being close-minded, but the weapons look so boring. It feels like the prehistoric angle is kind of limiting. It doesn't look anywhere close to being as interesting a reskin as Blood Dragon.

What are your thoughts?

The melee combat is crap for a game that seems to be heavily dependent on it

Far cry 3 was just plain stupid, then I tried Far cry 2 and that was even worse, so I couldn't care less about more Far cry.

It does look kinda cool that you control animals, but that'll get old extremely fast. I'm far more interested in the Egyptian AC.

It's out for anyone to even play some of it?

Otherwise, it's an Ubisoft open world game, the closest thing to a good one is Assassin's Creed 2.

It's garbage. A Farcry (no pun intended) from the traditional Far Cry series, and I see this particular game getting really old and boring very fast. And I don't give a shit about melee attacks, unless it's part of some elaborate stealth attack or when melee becomes you're last line of defense. Primal seems to focus specifically on melee and using Pre Historic tools, and I'm just NOT interested in those things, unless it's a MacGyver thing I need to do.

I like my Guns, Rockets, Mines, Bow/Arrow with explosive tips, thank you very much.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon was at least fun then Far Cry 3 itself and I felt that Primal should have been like what Blood Dragon did, Primal looks like it will get old indeed.

The concept looks interesting, I'm just afraid it'll have the same Ubisoft open world shittiness that mostly all of their recent games have had.

Also, I just don't understand why they felt the need to call it Far Cry. :P

Yeah I agree... from what I've seen so far, it does look a little bland compared to past FC games (which I've really enjoyed).

But I'll reserve judgement until I play it or at least see some reviews.

Yeah, they could have easily marketed it as a new IP altogether.

In fact, in the long run, that may have even been better for them.

My favourite part of Far Cry 3 was the bow and arrow.

I'm interested in this, but I want to play Far Cry 4 first. And it's not going down in price.

I thought it looked really awesome when they showed it on the community stream. I love the beast taming element and there seems to be a good amount of diversity when tackling objectives. The visuals and atmosphere are also great and really capture the period.

For a 10000BC game, I'll just wait for Horizon: Zero Dawn since it looks 10x better then what I saw from the vids on Primal. I watch Angry Joe play Primal, it looks dull and could have been done better. I'd feel better about the concept if the price were more in line with Blood Dragon.

I don't see why not, I liked Far Cry 2, 3, 4, this looks good, good enough anyways. It's not like there's really a whole lot in the meantime. Unless you got a 3DS to get hung up on the JRPGs like Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, Fire Emblem Fates (Birthright and/or Conquest), or Project X Zone, then there should be plenty of time to play it. And if you don't have a 3DS or do but still juggle your console games then there's still a good two weeks before The Division, and Hitman. And it's not like there's too much distraction before Far Cry Primal comes out, Rebel Galaxy releases this week, Resident Evil 0 HD the week after, I should be able to clear that up well before Far Cry Primal.

Only reason not to get it would be to get caught up on my backlist, which is actually a good reason. I mean, I could get caught up on my backlist (or some of it), save my money, pick it and other games up down the road at a discount... that makes the most sense, but then again there's my lack of self discipline to contend with, if doing the smart thing were so easy I wouldn't even have a backlist.

Agreed on Zero Dawn.

Honestly I didn't like Blood dragon either, but it had more going for it than the other games. The laser glove thing was cool.

I like how it looks, but I got bored with Far Cry 4 pretty quickly. This series doesn't have enough gamplay ideas to justify a long open world game.

Not buying it.

Nier Automata, Gravity Rush 2, Alienation, Deep Down, Detroit: Become Human, Ni-Oh, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last Guardian, Matterfall, Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, Ratchet and Clank, Rime, Yakuza 0 (coming to the west), Yakuza 6, Shadow of the Beast, No Man's Sky, Tekken 7, Persona 5, and maybe Firewatch are some upcoming ps4 games I'm getting.

Then for multi plat there is doom, hitman, deus ex, final fantasy 15, kingdom hearts 3, mirror's edge catalyst, and for honor to list a few.

Lol at far cry primal.

Not interested, tbh. I thought the idea was OK from the beginning. But yeah, Bows/Arrows and Pre Historic weapons can easily get old, boring really fast.

I'll pass.

I enjoyed both Far Cry 3 and 4.. but 4 got real repetitive, that's my issue with Primal.. it looks like it lacks weapons and could get boring fast.

I was excited till I saw some gameplay. It looks very boring. Like for a world where the wild animals should be coming out of the wood works and ripping my limbs off, it just seems lifeless.

I'm not a huge fan of the series, however I did purchase FC3 and thought it was great. Blood Dragon I really enjoyed.

So I was on the fence for FC4, but ended up buying and enjoyed it just like FC3.....but still have not finished it. However, one day a friend and I decided to play FC4 Co-op, and wow, the game went from great to incredible for me. Coop was so well done in FC4......I was planning on getting Primal, but I just heard recently that it will only be single player.....not so sure I will get it anymore, the game looks great Im sure it will be fine single player, but because of how amazing coop was for me in FC4 , which was the main draw for me, I'm not so enthused by Primal any longer....when I'm done with FC4 probably will get it.

Edit: Overall I would say Primal interest me more than previous FC games(minus that coop thing i mentioned), its something we don't see enough in games and that prehistoric /animal stuff interests me more than the modern settings

I loved Farcry 3 and 4. I'm with you on this game, seems weird to not have modern weapons, even though the bow was awesome in last game. I have to see more but I imagine I'll still play iy.

As far as I'm concerned I will give Ubisoft the benefit of the doubt on Far Cry Primal. The team they have making this series knows what they are doing. I'll hold off on buying this game until I see a few reviews though.

I feel Far Cry 4 was underrated in this thread though. At the time I thought it was just too similar to 3, but I recently played 3 again and it really showed me how many core improvements 4 made.

Good on them for banking on a rather unexplored (at least in a AAA environment) concept, but I am uninterested in more of "Ubisoft: The Game."

Though I like the ancient historical concept, not sure how much they tried to strive for historical accuracy however it is a refreshing change of pace but gameplay wise, it looks similar to FC3 and FC4 which got old really fast and the whole hunting/gathering to make stuff was a novelty at first, it gets so sickeningly tiresome after doing it a few times. I hope they at least did away with all the HUD crap but this game looks to heavily focus on animal hunting which isn't something I'm much into. Hopefully it has some other survival aspects to it and yet accurate enough to teach us what early man really had to go through on a daily basis.

The one time period I'm really interested to see a developer do with some historical accuracy is ancient Egypt. There's some great stories, betrayals and wars in there to be told.

I have no desire to explore and find Stone Age versions of "radio towers", i have not finished the last Farcry game, got very repetitive fast.

You know what you get from this, it will bring nothing under the sun. Have fun with that big map filled with pointless collectibles and miniquests. This is the game you will feel you already played before you even bought/installed it.
