This may sound strange coming from someone who loves Simulation games that use the whole keyboard, and tons of SHIFT+ and CTRL+ combos, but too many games are coming out with way too complex control schemes. I had to replay the opening tutorial bit on Shadow of Mordor more than a few times...tap this button, or hold it to do something else entirely.

Simulations where you're controlling a machine (plane, helicopter, sub, mech, etc.) are different, because the primary focus of a sim IS controlling your machine. But when I want to play a dude running around killing things and climbing walls I don't want to have to remember 40 different commands.

right.

when I was a kid I saw a Disney documentary at school and they used a word that I havent been able to find since

'fictional reality'

it means what is in the story has to make sense within the context of the world the story is taking place.

I would say same is true for game controls. if in a game I have to hold down X and in the game hit Y and X is a thingy and Y is a bobby but it makes no sense in the context of the world I am in then its a complete immersion breaker
