So far 2021 has been a meh year for games, seems like everything decent is releasing Q3/Q4 of 2021

Haven't played many 2021 games. And tbh, can't even remember some of the ones I have, so probably not worth mentioning.

Strive is easily my #1. Nioh 2 was great, PC port was this year, but really a 2020 game. Dyson Sphere Programs dope. Loop Hero was interesting, but nothing I'm crazy about.

Looking forward to Dread and Type Lumina. If Silk Song drops this year, that too.

Idk, hasn't been a big year for my tastes, but so many games to play it doesn't matter.

I don't even have a top 3. This year has been a total disaster. Returnal is the only game that i've played, and is worth talking about. Everything else has been mediocre or trash.

Hitman 3 so far.

but will also include Deathloop, Shadow warrior 3 and Dying light 2 in upcoming month.

2021 is underrated year. Hitman 3 is another and last installment in current best stealth franchise and become masterpiece. so now they move to next bond game.

Deathloop is game changer and coming in few month you will hate sadly beause its not cinematic movie game. you wont like shadow warrior 3 because its not AAA game yet its Doom Eternal of 2021. you wont like Dying light 2 because again its not third person cinematic game.

1: Returnal. Amazing game better than expected.

Well, my top 3 of 2021 as of now has been:

1. New Pokemon Snap (Switch exclusive)
2. Mass Effect Legendary Edition (PC)
3. Resident Evil 8 (PC)

Honorable mentions: Narita Boy, Monster Hunter Rise, (my daughter plays it more this year then me) and Super Mario 3D World + Bowsers Fury.

Upcoming 3 games of 2021 have yet to be release and super excited are: (at the time of this post)

1. Metroid: Dread (super excited to play this as the next big thing on Switch)
2. Dying Light 2 (PC)
3. Halo: Infinite (PC)

Honorable mentions: Far Cry 6 & Forza Horizon 5, & Tales of Arise.

Only picked up two 2021 releases so far; Subnautica: Below Zero and Evil Genius 2. Of the two, Subnautica is much, much better, and I spent over a hundred hours in it.

So yeah, Subnautica: Below Zero. Currently my personal 2021 Game of the Year.

2021 doesn't deserve a top 3.

Not true. This year has been pretty nice for me so far, but I guess it all falls down to what games you are looking for this year but other than that, 2021 seems to be solid.

Well at least I don't feel so bad for playing so little this year. It seems like a few others here have also only played one or two games.

@Ballroompirate: Looking at your "Top 3 most excited for the rest of 2021" list, I'm surprise you don't have Metroid: Dread on the list.

Kind of in the same boat, have really played any releases of this year that espically wow'd me. Almost everything I enjoyed was prior.

Guess got a good 40+ hours out of Strive, but na, anime fighters not for me.

Things are about to get good right now so I'll reserve judgement! Speaking of Judgement, Lost Judgement is one of my most hyped games for the remainder of 2021!

since there's been such a drought i'll have to bend the rules and say demon's souls. i couldn't get a ps5 last year, only at the start of this year, so i couldn't play it in 2020. and thank god for that game being so good. took the edge off what has been a poor year. was confident last gen that the ps4 was the horse to bet on, even though did go on to pick up an xbox. currently far less confident in the ps5. hoping deathloop starts to turn the ship around, and by the time ive finished with that returnal will have dropped to a reasonable price

too early to make thread. also many people forgot about Hitman 3.

Haven't played that many new games this year, and i'm currently 5-6 hours into Psychonauts 2 which I strongly suspect will knock The Ascent off the list (could be as high as #1)

Right now:

1. It Takes Two - one of the best pure co-op games i've played in a long time.

2. Valheim - kept me and my friends entertained for dozens of hours at the peak of pandemic lockdowns. not usually into this type of game but Valheim really hooked me.

3. The Ascent - just a fun, amazing looking game. Played through it in solo and didn't encounter many technical issues.

yep. 3/4 into the year but still time for some games to swoop in and save the day (year). i've not played hitman 3 yet, still not finished part 2. only seen you mention it on here, maybe flew under the radar a bit

12 minutes was surprisingly good and definitely my number on this year!

New world beta also seems like a sleeper hit and the only mmo game I played in a decade, super hyped for that to launch this month!

Only game I am really looking forward to this year is Deathloop, think it looks super sweet!

Also Farcry 6 I guess, but we kind of know what we get there I guess!

Majority have not played Hitman 3. its nichie game and only blockbuster mainstream games get mention. beside Hitman 3 got 9/10. better than last of us 2 and ghost of shusi score.

Of 2021, hades, MSFS20, and cris tales. I didn't actually have that much fun playing MSFS20, but for pure technical achievements, I really have to put it in the top 3. Even if it were to win GOTY, I'd support it, but it came out last year so it won't qualify.

As of right now, the 3 games that come to mind are:

Nioh Collection, Returnal, Monster Hunter Rise

Waiting for it’s release: Battlefield 2042,Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5.

Haven't played any new games this entire year. Seriously 2021 hasn't impressed me so far. Hopefully the up coming games will change that for me.

2021 has been one of the worst years in gaming, which kind of is to be expected when Sony hasn't been carrying (though Returnal and R&C:RA are both AA games) not quite as bad as 2012, 2014 or 2016, but still extremely average.

We did get kind of spoiled by 2020 which was probably top 3 or top 5 best year in gaming, ever.

2021 I have spent my time playing From Software's games as Demon's Souls introduced me to the franchise so that's 6 games and 300 hours or so right there.350+ once you add in Mortal Shell and Nioh 1+2, which I only bothered picking up after get my From cravings.

2020 was pretty meh outside of a few amazing hits, I do agree though it would probably be in the top 5 but it would be ether number 5 or number 6 in gaming years.

I said that Returnal is the only game worth mentioning, but having spent these last 5 days grinding the plat trophy, i am so burned out on it, that if Returnal 2 was to come out next week, and was only $30, i wouldn't buy it. And i am still not done cuz rng sux.

@Ballroompirate: I think it has an argument for being the best gaming year ever,

1. The Last of Us 2 (one of the top 5 best games ever made and most awarded game in history)
2. Hades (94 on MC, would have hundreds of GOTYs if not for TLOU2)
3. Persona 5: Royal (95 on MC and still only 3rd)
4. Ghost of Tsushima (had this come out in 2012,2014,2016, 2019 or 2021 it would be winning GOTY everywhere, barely makes top 5 in 2020 though)
5. Final Fantasy VII: Remake (remake of one of the best games of all time)
6. Doom Eternal
7. Demon's Souls (Gamespot picked this as GOTY over Uncharted 2 back in 2009...)

And of course more but those were the main picks. There isn't a single 2014 game for instance that would make top 7 of 2020 (don't even bother saying Dragon Age or Shadow of Mordor lol)
