The only good WRPG last gen was Morrowind, so I'd say WRPGs got better (DAO, Witcher series, New Vegas, NWN2, etc.).Guppy507

Deus Ex, Vampire: The Masquerade, Arcanum, KOTOR...

Does none of them ring a bell :? ?

Arcanum is okay, and I appreciate what Deus Ex is even if it aged horribly. The rest are sub-par.

The industry has become far more currupt and I can't stand this overly cinematic focus in games. I say make interesting and creative gameplay first, polish it, then go on to all those other flourishes.

To name a few gems this gen already

RDR, Mass Effect series, Starcraft 2, The Witcher 2, Batman AA. I would list the other 50 or so games I've enjoyed this gen but I'm to lazy and im on a crappy laptop

I would'nt say I hate this gen and I attribute a lot of my cynicism to age, but it does feel like every second game released is an fps, and I'm rarely aching to get my hands on any game.

No J-Rpgs, too many "realistic" shooters, console ports, great developers selling out.

Pikminmaniac

My sentiments exactly.

Consoles this gen are filled with all these interactive movies.

If I wanted to watch a movie, I'd go to Netflix or the theaters.

---

Even the best video game stories are B-movie quality...at best.

---

I prefer the minimalistic approach: have a video game story ACCENT the game, not consume it.

In my opinion, the simplistic stories (Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, Zelda) are usually the best ones in video games.

Best generation thus far, obviously. People who say it isn't are blinded by nostalgia. Despite the shift toward motion controls and the insane focus on shooters, the games have stillbeen bestin gaming'shistory, and thats what matters. At one point I felt as though this generation was a disappointment, but going back to older games I used to love made me realize how poorly they've aged. I think I've grown somewhat more tired of gaming as a whole, but saying that the last generation was better because of it would be nonsense, this generation has been awesome.

Disappointing and under-achieving. It's also all about graphics and shooters. Don't get me wrong because I've enjoyed quite a few games this gen, but a different focus could have made this generation great instead of just good.

I chose option 2. There are a ton of great games that have come out, some of them working their way into my all time favorites list. However there is too much of an emphasis on CoD- esque shooters, and multiplayer. Seriously, singleplayer has taken a big hit ever since MP became popular. However like I said there are still many fantastic games this gen.

Plus many mainstream games are gerat although I somewhat agree that there is too big a focus on graphics.

There aren't too many FPS, they're just popularized. Enough good games out there.

Yes I do and most of my favorite games this gen are either on handhelds or are niche games. I was talking more about the mainstream focus that the majority of devs seem to be following and how I disagree with what they think is important.

Many many good games. Yet, also a very expensive generation personally. Next generation I won't be able to spend this much, by far.

I wish COD hadn't become so popular and made a lot of great games go unnoticed and influenced so many FPS's. Damn you Call of Duty! That is how I feel about this generation.

"Bu but Activision creates jobs for the industry! They also make other military FPS devs more sharp due to stiff competition!" That's about the only half-decent argument I've heard in defense of the gaming blight, otherwise known as Activision. But yeah, I agree with you.

  • The resurgence of Whac-a-mole (uncharted, gears of war, MEdiocre, ect)
  • Indie renaissance
  • Mainstream titles being generally boring
  • I would have quit gaming if it wasnt for Indies, Niche devs and Nintendo.
