All right, so Metro 2033 is pretty much a first. We've all seen games made out of movies, games made out of movies made out out of books, and even games made out of poems, but Metro 2033 pretty much marks the first time as well as I am aware, that we've seen a book directly translated into a videogame. This marks an exciting milestone if it is indeed successful. No longer will videogames made out of books have to adapt to the way the movies portray the world. Hopefully we'll see this more often. So what book or book series would you like to see follow in Metro 2033's footsteps, and take the jump into interactive entertainment?

Personally, I'd like to see the Chronicles of Narnia book series translated into a game series. I'll probably get flamed for suggesting this due to the Christian overtones throughout the series, but in my opinion the books offered up not only great morals and characters, but a sense of adventure that I think could translate extremely well into a game world. It had it all, epic battles, exploration, evil characters and numerous plots in each book that a game series could take on well.

So what about you guys? What favorite books of your do you think would translate well into videogames?

it makes me shudder. :|

anyways, Id love to see the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy series made into a game, if done right it could be like a more comedic mass effect or something.

The Deathstalker Chronicles. It's an over the top space opera series. It really is a good fit for a video game series.

Redwall - The game could have a lot of the mechanics of The Legend of Zelda/Prince of Persia. Journey on adventure that spans all over the Redwall area.

Redwall Battlefront - Take control of a Long Patrol Hare, an Abbey Mouse, an Otter or even a Badger, all controlling quite differently. Defend the Abbey from constant attacks and participate in giant battles everywhere. More of a SW: Battlefront/LotR: Conquest game.

don't see how the fall of reach could turn into a game.

I would Like to see world war z into a book. It had multiple character with there own storyline how they experience the zombie apocalypse. My favorite one was the otaku on and Mel Brooks(the author of world war z) actually put the word otaku into his book.

I enjoyed them a lot back in high school when I read through them. Simple and enjoyable reads. There's a lot of potential there for grand set pieces, fun puzzles and a fantastic journey tat would look pretty cool.

Dune, a REAL game about dune, no more RTS' that have literally nothing to do with the book.

I want a real dune game, the only one to get it half-way right was the first Dune game by cryo Interactive

I want to ride a worm, I want to see Paul Atreides being tempted with sex, I want to see the fall of the Atreides house and the rise of the Fremen, I want to see the water life. I want to lead the raid against the Harkonnen Spice storehouses on Geidi Prime, I want to see the desperation of the people of dune for water and the hatred they felt for the Atreides family when they were spending years worth of water on plants in the Palace's garden and much more

I know its not and i have the book and its pretty much impossible to make a game from it but you know.

A remake of The Hobbit. Seriously, the game I played on PS2 (although I liked it decently) isn't as good as the other Tolkien games (Two Towers and Return of the King) I have on Gamecube.

A survival horror type game based on a Stephen King book - I'm thinking Cell, Desperation, It, Bag of Bones...something that would be a lot more psychological and puzzle-based in gameplay and almost entirely void of combat.

I completely agree. I'm reading the first book right now and damn is it good. But I think this series was the chief inspiration behind dragon age.

And I think any of the series by chinese novelist Jin Yong(don't know his english name, someone should know who I'm talking about) could be made into a high budget game. All of them are like Lord of the Rings minus 90% of the fantasy creatures, there's still some fantasy creatures in the stories however.

I really enjoyed "House of Leaves" by Mark Z Danielewski and have seen it's influence in a few games, notably an adventure game '5 days a stranger'. I've seen games almost entirely based off of "dice man" by Luke Rhinehart, a character that initiates his actions based on random rolls of a dice. I'd imagine books impact the developers of most games as storylines are plucked from other media.

Eye of the World series - the world itself is too large (taking the people who live in it up to a month to go from the shore to the Spine of the World) to be made into anything other than an MMO nowadays, but it is such a detailed and amazing place that I am sure a talented developer could bring it to life. Eventually.

Yeah anyone whos read the book knows city 17 is obviously heavily influenced by it. A cinematic, maybe Heavy Rain style (with the button presses and other things, not the tank controls for movement) game set there would be amazing, but you'd have to have a ridiculously good producer and writer to come up with something that would work without being too dull.
