What can we expect from the PS5?

So,PS4 is a great console.Amazing games,good online,nice specs,great 1st and 3rd party support...

But what about playstation 5?Will it be able to surpass this great console?I doubt it,but it's being made by SONY,so who knows...

What do you think?

really? ps4 isnt even out, it looks like an amazing console ,have fun playing with the games and dont look to the future too much

I believe the next one will be a Digital Download / Streaming only device. If not I imagine discs will be supported but developers will start producing their games for digital only. 

But i can't imagine really what PS5 will look like. this gen isn't quite over yet, and i think were seeing diminishing returns in terms of the graphics and what the games can do. 

In that sense, i believe we'll see Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony become more like the DVD and Cable box makers. they'll provide a box, but what's under the hood is not important, it's the service that comes with that box. Your seeing it now with next gen coming on Xbox One and PS4. 

How we are gonna get our games, and how much and how we pay for them will be very different in the future. 

and for games, triple A to Indie, to not only survive but to flourish we'll need to see games move away from purely mechanic based and more on substance and genre-theme based. more like books and movies/shows. Mature games wouldn't just mean relegated to being to be gore violence, or tittilating sexuality but also taking on more heavier narratives.  Average age of a gamer is in their 30's, and while I am not ashamed to say that i love me some shooters and even sometimes some indulegent T&A, I also like seeing games that play with heavier serious and engaging narratives. 

Gameplay should not be forgotten, but i think we need to see mechanics be done differently (something besides 'killing' or just solving a series of puzzles to get from point A to point B). 

and i think Sony, more then anyone out of the big 3 console developers, does push for that. in the form of like Journey, Rain, Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, Team Ico games, etc. they support games that you wouldn't see very often outside of the indie-space. 

but as gamers grow older, and new gamers are coming in all the time (nevermind the diversity issues such as with race, sex, gender and creeds), the genre of games themselves need to expand more in order to floursih. At least with games that try to get you on a story that your gonna give a damn about.

Although it's true I care a lot about visuals, I stand by my statement. Quality gameplay is definitely the most important game aspect, and curiously, it's also the one most PS3 exclusives lack... ;)

Also, even our "low spec" machines are ultimately capable of outmatching the consoles.

Haha, thanks for this topic, gave me a few laughs ths morning while I was having my coffee. You know what you can expect from the PS5? 

Absolutely nothing.....nada, zilch, naught....expect a more powerful PS4, which in turn is just an upgraded PS3. Sony likes to play it safe, so we proably won't see anything we haven't seen before with future consoles.

Lol yea Sony is killing Nintendo so badly and the 3DS having a 30 million unit lead on the Vita is just part of Sony's plan!

I think the PS5 and Xbox whatever will be service based, not hardware based.

Basically an updated XOne.

Just like how they copied the 360 with the PS4, they'll copy the XOne with the PS5.

PS5 won't be a console. It wil be a service. They might offer a dumb little box that handles the streaming, but that's it.

You'll be able to stream playstation games on your PC/laptop/handheld/phone/tablet/smart Tv/litte streaming box.

Whicih means PC will have won, as it would be the only place you can get responsive, high end locla rendering fo games, AND full access to the console "exclusive" libray.

System wars will implode with the amount of consolite rage and tears.

HDMI in, rumble triggers, snap, last gen Xbox LIVE etc etc
