Define value and describe what makes a gaming console valuable?

I believe great games makes a gaming console have true value.

see that's just the thing (why I think this is an interesting argument) value is defined by the individual consumer.

Yet the most common sense of value is that of the product that offers you many possibilities and ways to use, meaning you'll use it a lot and for many different reasons and then be worth your money, or even worth more than they charge. For that concept of value (which you have to agree, is the most common and the one the TC's talking about) the PS3 is the most valuable because it's worth a Blu-ray/ DVD player (that costs alone more or equal to the PS3), a gaming console, a computer (if you install linux in it it's a perfect computer) and a media center. you can't get a better deal my friend.

Definitely PS3. (Although, I used to think it was 360) FOR ME....

In terms of

  1. Longevity (support is usually beyond 5 years) i dont see the difference vs 360?
  2. Promise/Potential of 3rd Party games (in future) Meh, pc/360/wii still better IMO
  3. Exclusives see 2
  4. Multiplats um, you can get them on other consoles???
  5. Name brand (Playstation synonymous to gaming) i disagree, nintendo has a much longer history and is more well-known to non-gamers
  6. Bluray/DVD support i really couldn't care less
  7. Universal upgradeable Hard Drive meh
  8. Reliable Hardware (no RROD) good point
  9. Backwards compatible with older PS games not in australia!
  10. Playstation Network (free service) but not as good as live/pc services

  1. There's a difference. Most likely MS will no doubt END it's 360 waaaaaaaaaay too early. When? I don't know. But LIKELY, knowing how desperate they are, MS will do the same as they did with Xbox 1.
  2. Those are my opinion.....and YOU have yours. And BTW, 360 and PC are just the same and redundant. If you were a big PC fan, why even bother supporting 360 in the first place? They're both very similar.
  3. PS3 exclusives are siginificant than compared to 360 and PC.......both platforms sharing the same type of games. See 2.
  4. Multiplats. Good point
  5. Yes, Nintendo does have a longer history. But that doesn't ERASE the fact there are people on this planet who still link videogaming to the Playstation brand name. I'd say Nintendo & Playstation are just about the same. I said Playstation was synonymous simply because it's just as powerful of a brand name, like Nintendo.
  6. You could care less about BR....that's you. But soon people will take notice in the next few years. People didn't take HDTV seriously back 7-10 years ago. Look what happened. Virtually no STV or CRTV are selling in major retailers anymore, maybe in limited supplies. HDTV is the way to go. And Analog TV Broadcasting (in USA) will come to a sudden halt on Feb. 17, 2009. When people begin to notice HDTV, soon people will see HD Video/Movies (BR technology) as the way to go.
  7. Having a universal upgradeable Hard Drive is cost efficient and consumer friendly. ;) As a PC gamer, how can you say "meh"???
  8. Indeed good point.
  9. Too bad, I live in USA :P
  10. Yes not as good as live or PC.....but definitely a convenience to those who don't want to pay $50 a year and rarely play online. It's a farely decent option for other gamers.
