and i care why? have consoles ever been about value vs. manufacturing cost? people seem to think that 249.99 for a Wii was more reasonable than Sony's insanely high prices. So something is making people think it's worth it -- I'd hazard to guess it's the fun factor + games. Something Sony has forgotten. Why the **** wouldn't you care? Yeah, I'm going to go buy a sixty dollar game which has one hour of gameplay an d that's it. WHAT? That's just stupid. Yeah, I'm going to go out and pick upa Slim Playstation for $400, uh, what? You need value for your buck. If a company is making you, the consumer, pay nearly five times what it's worth, then there's seriously something wrong with that "respected" company.i couldn't care less if the system costs 1$ to make - i'm never liquidating it to sell the parts.

PS2 failure rate is rumored to have been around the same the 360 has right now. I had 3, 2 failed - one normal, one slim. One took 2 months for repair (which is why I bought another one) and the other took over 3 months.
What did you do put the thing in a pile of dust so it overheated? I had the same ps2 for the whole life of the system and still own it and guess what it still works.

Well the thing is thats just it really. Anyone that really wanted the game already has it and I personally wouldn't recommend it to anyone that already has the Cube version.

well la de fricking da. try using google if your brain didn't retain all the news about the famous DRE aka. Disk Read Error.
i keep a clean house - i have a maid service on top of that. had nothing to do with dust or dirt, just bad luck and a little thing called DRE.

Microsoft. Last gen they had a top-notch console that barely broke, had an [standard]HDD, and was significantly more powerful than the other two consoles. Now their 360 brakes a lot, some have no HDD, Live problems, and is less powerful than the PS3.AIH_PSP
Fixed.
By the way, my Xbox 360 works perfectly. Live Problems? So, they have trouble due to massive Christmas fever for the first time and this makes that fall hardest from original Xbox Live? Oh lord.

[QUOTE="TREAL_Since"][QUOTE="surfer_dude_"][QUOTE="TREAL_Since"]So much bs spin in that statement Im getting dizzyWell it's hard to say. No one company has fell off since last gen. Not even Sony. The Wii is doing much better than the GC. And the 360 is doing better than the XBOX. Sony is doing the same as they started with the PS2. I guess since Nintendo and Microsoft are doing better than last gen it makes it seem like Sony is doing bad.
Final Verdict: NO ONE.
3picuri3
Maybe I typed it wrong. The PS3 is selling very well. Compared to the PS2's first year it's about the same.
about the same? so this year the PS2 is doing better than it's first year in every month? because the PS2 has slaughtered the PS3 every month since launch IIRC.
Yes the PS2 kicked it into high gear after it's first year. Epsecially once it was more affordable. Sony sold 10 million PS2 consoles during its first year. The PS3 will eventually kick into high gear once more AAA killer apps arrive and another price cut is announced. But I'm not sure that the PS3 will reach the PS2's overall amount.

well i'm happy that's enough for you - personally I gave up on FF years ago. Used to love it, but it's spirit is gone, it's a brand now like Levi's, nothing more. MGS I never liked, except for on PSP - but that wasn't the same obviously. And nothing else for PS3 interests me. Except Little Big Planet - but I've heard rumors it's going to PC too.
either way, to each their own - I'm just trying to point out that both Sony and MS have had quality issues in the past / present - and both are still respected and loved by many. nothing less, nothing more.

Does it really matter? It should be obvious that the failure rate is much higher. PS2 didn't generate this much buzz with its faulty diodes. Of course I support Sony. I also support Microsoft and Nintendo :). That's why I own all consoles. I'm not picking sides here, I'm just calling it as I see it.
Like I said before I haven't lost respect for any conmpany and all 3 companies are doing very well right now. But out of the 3 MS and Sony have had the more noticeable set backs.

not a sheep in the least - but how the **** has Ninty lost respect? if anything Sony has - shameless copying, forced bluray, over-priced, poor 3rd party support, long time getting proper SDKs to developers, false and misleading statements after false and misleading statement, poor PSN support, Home Delays, Game Delays, saying rumble is last gen -> adding rumble, Sone EU execs undermining SCEA execs re: pricecuts, Ken Kutaragi, Lair....
i'm sure i could go on... but why.
Because they're the only ones that decided on low standards, for the first time in their proud history. At least the other two systems have some legs. ''Most dissapointing return'' might be a better way to put it, outside of the money.
I don't understand yor logic at all. If anything, in my eyes they have gained respect. The other 2 have done exactly the same thing that games have been doing since the early days of video games - making the graphics better. Nintendo have tried doing something diferent. Even if the wii totaly failed (which it obvioulsly hasn't) nintendo would have gained my respect for trying something diferent.

My only point is that bringing up hardware issues is a moot point - both MS and Sony have had a troubled past with hardware problems, this time Sony has cleaned up somewhat (but it is their 3rd go at it, MS 2nd, so to me their both doing Par for the course).
Hardware issues don't make a system any less great - in other words, a console is more than the sum of it's parts in some circumstances. PS2 survived DRE, and I'm sure the 360 will grow out of the RROD (eventually :P).

i think it's as simple as the difference between a materialistic person and someone that appreciates other aspects when seeking out products / possessions. there's a reason people buy BMWs, Mercedes, etc. they place value on the parts and the image, not the whole.

Fair enough to an extent.
But, not so much for Ninty's first party these days. I couldn't give a crap about MP3 or SMG but I think they're great games.
However:
And as far as the other IP's go its really a matter of preference and cult worship (Smash Bro's for example).
Hazzaaa, overrated methinks lately. But not in the DS's case, its awesomeness is beyond measure.
The Wii's standards are about 4-5 years old which is why people call it last-gen (forget the graphics, the games are still living in the past too because of processing and ram limitations). So, 2-3 games really worth getting one for and then you still need to know what your getting into. 99% of this 3rd party bag mixing is total garbage or passable at best too, no offense :P
