[QUOTE="DAZZER7"]I've seen a few people here trying to define what 4D gaming is! I would just like to ask the cows, do any of you still think that 'procedural texturing' as some have put it, can only be done on a PS3?LibertySaint
it has been done in tech demo but doesn't seem to be a reality in games due to the cpu doing alot of the work and the ram taking lots of space for it, it just seem like unesscary unless a game was built around that only. Most games take skips thro time or make u move anywyas right? i just wonder how fable 2 will work, will it update the textures after 3 years of in-game time which is what 5 hours of play, or what? ...

Liberty, you're not a cow, that wasn't meant for you ;)

Although it is time but I mean most of the effects of time happen over a very long period of time. Which won't happen during an 8 hour game, unless its just 8 hours spent watching paint dry.

in our time or game time? time is a matter of how it is precieved, so in a game 2 days game time could be 2 minutes in our time.

But seriously it wont come in handy in many situations, a lot of the demos of "4D" or dynamically generated textures (whatever you wonna call it..) take place in the time period of years, unless there are games that you can maybe speed up time really fast or things like that it seems like a waste of processing power to me, even if like you said 2 minutes realtime might = 2 hours game time there still wont be huge differences in the environments. For most games all that would be needed is the old way of loading new geometry and textures when you enter a new location that you haven't being to in maybe 2 years game time, like what fable 2 is supposed to have and many other games.

Sony didn't mean anything by it. It was Crazy Ken who said. The guy was on drugs at the time I'm sure. But for Sony, why place the blame on them as a whole? Or is history that foggy?

What they meant by 4D was degradation of the enviroment in a game while the game progresses. An example would be, if 4D was a part of GTA4, you scrape your car on something exposing the metal and plastic under the paint to the enviroment, mainly moisture or water. Over time the car would rust in the place you scratched it.

I guess sony figured 4D sounded better than 3D...... Like MS figured Xbox 360 sounded better than Xbox 2.....

Though on Sonys behalf they just looked stupid.

it's 3 + 1..... they just wanted to add a number.. like they did with frames per second and resolution.. just shout that you will do more than others and then don't deliver....but fanboysd WILL believe. i still read stuff like this:"ps3 can do actual hd and 360 can not"... seriously.. the ignorance. but great job by Sony to make people believe the strangest things.. another great one: "CoD4 is native 1080P, cause it says so on the box..."

Atleast 4D (growth and decay) IS possible..its kinda dumb to have just say something that doesn't even make sense..atleast 4D on console CAN make sense..ya know ..if stuff were to change through time...
