Since MS makes the data openly available to community developers, achievements can be shared. Just take a look at the sigs of some of the people with Xbox Live. They're dynamically updated and can be viewed on the console, on Xbox.com, forums, blogs, etc. Even 360voice.com does autoblogging with RSS support.
Trophies, well......not so much. You can see them only on the console. At times, they require an synching process just to view even your own trophies. Sites like tripletags and playfire still require you to manually update what games you've played.
In that respect, Achievements (not just the points) do a better job of being a social networking widget than trophies.
