SMG looks amazing and it's the only title that stands out on the Wii other than Zelda this year. But it's the only game that Ifind better than most Xbox titles; however, some look better like Halo 2 and Star Wars: Republic Commando imo.
From a technical perspective, the Wii is still a last gen console. Even if it is slightly more powerful, it is certainly in the same league as the original Xbox.Nonam3gamerLOL  , I wonder if Wii will get a Doom 3 port with motion controls(That'll be the best looking game on Wii imo).
Okay go to wikipedia
look for Xbox specs.
look for (estimated coz Ninty hasn't released official info) and it will say
Wii processor clocked at somewhere between 820mhz-900mhz.
The Xbox had about 450mhz or less I believe.
Super Mario Galaxy couldn't have been done on anything but Wii, PS3, 360.
Visually that is.
Infact most tech. sites who've opened the Wii up and checked out the hardware have said it probably could do 720p with no problems. And people who know that have no clue why Nintendo doesn't seem interested in HD for the Wii when it probably could handle it.
Perhaps a Wii HD down the road somewhere or an update to upscale?
Hey, it isn't impossible.
the PS2 wasn't more powerful than the GCN, Xbox.
the PS1 wasn't most powerful.
The GameBoy wasn't the most powerful.
the DS isn't the most powerful.
the Wii isn't the most powerful.

the xbox used an intel pentium 3 733MHz processor with a 250MHz nvidia gpu and 64MB of unified ram. link
the wii has a 729MHz powerpc processor with a 243MHz ati gpu and 88MB ram. link
if looking at raw numbers, the xbox has a slight advantage excpet in the ram department which the wii easily takes (though looking at raw numbers is not how one is suppose to compare consoles.)

You do know Xbox ran some games in 720p HD right? True Crime was one of them."Infact most tech. sites who've opened the Wii up and checked out the hardware have said it probably could do 720p with no problems. They probably didn't graduate high school and they start making those statements. Devs have said you need multiple cores to run HD. Wii does not have this. Those sites....suck

Edit: O yea do please check the proccessor Xbox was utlizing.
That is upscaled to HD. I can't believe you went and mentioned old news like I would be astounded or something. Hey -- PS2 could do 1080 too!
That is not the same as a true HD game. Crimson Skies or Ninja Gaiden 720p on Xbox is a whole different story from Mass Effect and Gears of War at 720p. See the difference in processing power needed? One is upscaled, another truly renders HD resolutions.
You, you, and you over there, FAIL.

wow. so much bull----, so little time. let me begin:
xbox:
intel pentium 3 (modified) @ 733MHz
Nvidia Geforce 4 based GPU @ 250MHz
64MB unified ram
nintendo wii:
custom ibm powerpc @ 729MHz
custom ati gpu @ 243Mhz
88MB ram
you said:
xbox cpu @ 450MHz
wii cpu @ 820 - 900MHz
FAIL
you said:
you said SMG couldn't have been done on anything but the wii, 360 and ps3.
result:
FAIL. the original xbox produced graphics that are better than SMG. case in point, ninja gaiden black and the game "black".
the wii is capable of hd. true. so was the original xbox.
difference:
the original xbox didn't require a firmware update or an HD version of the system for it to display HD. all you needed was a set of component cables.
links:
xbox specs
wii specs
list of xbox games in HD and ED (btw, all xbox games were ED because they were 480p. SD is 480i.)
It's FACT the Wii is more powerfull than the original Xbox.
But do developers care enough to make games like that? Not much.

Yeah. o_x What's the point of it being technically better if they aren't going to utilize it --- Other than Nintendo of course.
I have high hopes for 2008 though.

upscaling requires a scaling unit/processor which none of last gens consoles had. thus, the gpu had to render the game in HD.
btw, why would i be darth-pyschosis' side when i am trying to disprove him?

I put in the wrong numbers for the Xbox. My bad. I will come out and say that.
But I will alsocome out and say that though this is system wars I don't expect to be talked to like a piece of ****.

Lol at last statement. Core 2 Duo is built on an entirely new architecture than celeron. Power PC based CPUs where way ahead of Intels chips at that time.

I thought the switch came because the powerpc's architecture is not suited to run windows.

power consumption and cost of going multicore is your answer.
the powerpc is more powerful pre MHz than the celeron that was in the xbox.
NINJA GIADEN BLACK looks as good as some games on the 360 and PS3 so Xbox deff. had better graphics then the Nintendo Wii. The Wii has some good looking games but none that match up to NGB.
It's FACT the Wii is more powerfull than the original Xbox.

thats probably because they know the hardware limitations!...lol, you can't put a ferrari engine on aHundai and expect it to run it naturally....its common sense.
Anyone who says the original Xbox is more powerful then the Wii must be on a diferent dimensional plane of existence.
Wii is the more powerful system, not by much but at least 1.5x more powerful then what the original Xbox was capable of.
I'll break it down if your not into computer engineering. The "Broadway" Processor in the Wii clocks in at 729 MHz.
The Intel in the original Xbox ran at 733 MHz. Though the Intel might have the miniscule edge with 4 MHz it really doesn't
matter due to the totally different architectures of both. "Broadway" is Copper, Pentium III was Aluminum.
Anyone in the Computer field will tell you that Copper Cores are twice as effiecient as Aluminum Cores.
Xbox has the edge when it comes to the miniscule edge in GPU clock speed but again it doesn't matter when the Wii has the edge
in Memory with 88 compared to 64. Not to mention the Wii has 24 MiB of internal 1T-SRAM which is superior to the DRAM in XBOX
because it acheives a lower latency while retaining the same density as DRAM.
whew.....lol nerded out on you guys sorry about that but those are the facts.
