I have played Killzone 2 and I honestly don't think that it's textures are too special, yeah they are definitely good and sometimes even great, but they are not something spectacular. What I really think makes this game's graphics amazing is the fact that there can be 20-30 AI's fighting each other on-screen at once while lightning storms and missiles hit the sky without any drops in the framerate. What do you think is special about Killzone 2's graphics?

Thanks.

Lighting

Physics

Animation

amount of enemies on screen

particle effects

post-processing effect

destruable environments

amount of things happening on the screen at once

and the fact that all of that is calculated at the drop of a dime without a single hitch in gameplay or framerate no matter how much is going on...amazing!!!!

edit

in shot...

complete excellence!!!

I agree with everything that you listed except for the destructible environments, they are not very common in the game, and even when something is destructible it's not on a big scale.

http://www.develop-online.net/features/407/BUILD-Defered-rendering "Developer GSC Game World explained it was the ideal choice in the case of that particular game because of its lower geometry and pixel-processing requirements, and lower CPU overhead, compared to a traditional forward shading engine." "Because you project your lights into the scene as a post-process, you're not lighting any pixels that are hidden behind any other pixels," says Jan-Bart van Beek, art and animation director at Guerilla, describing one of the advantages that convinced the studio make the early decision to use deferred rendering in Killzone 2."

And anyone who thinks Crysis looks that good needs to take off the fanboy glasses. It looks good, but I have shown my wife and my 2 boys "hardcore gamers like me" Crysis on max settings and they dont see anything special about it either. Funny how some people just hype some thing up to be more than what it is. Peace out YO

True, fanboys over-blow Crysis graphics because they hate the praise PS3 games get as being the best in the industry. I get tired of fanboys trying to tell me how great and unaproachable Crysis graphics are compaired to PS3's best looking games...as if I don't own the**** game.

What you are saying is true, and no one has ever proven otherwise. The only time I've ever seen Crysis look in any way that's beyond what I've seen PS3 is capable of is when people post pics or videos of it "after it's been modded".

In all the discussions I've been in I mentioned that I'm playing the game out of the box, and people still try to tell me that Crysis blows PS3's best away...and I'm playing Crysis on very-high. The only conclusion that I can come to is that they've never made a direct comparison of Crysis vs KZ2/UC2 for them selves to know the truth or they are simply fanboy trolls who don't own both systems and the games they talk about and just want to bash PS3.

These haters are quick to call me a fanboy, but every time I ask them if they've made a direct comparison of the games we are talking about and if they have to prove it by showing they own both systems and all the cames being compaired...lol, all I get is flamming and personal attacts.

It looks outstanding if you havn't played STALKER, Crysis or Arma2. If you have played those, and not just watched a couple of videos online, then it still looks great, just nothing us PC gamers havn't seen 3 years ago. :)

To be fair tho, are you talking about retail versions out of the box or Modded up versions that's not standard for the games?

I haven't played any of those games modded so if you're talking about the games in that condition you should indicate that in your post, if not then, I stand by my previous comments in saying you're wrong.

Mods are a staple of many pc games. It's part of what makes up pc gaming. Of the games that don't allow mods, many of those have console origins. Even consoles are starting to get in the act with DLC.

Plus a lot of the image quality mods are merely modifications of feature settings already built into the game.

As for KZ2...... It looks great. It's definitely up there.

Stalker SoC, while being one of my fav games, looks like ass unmodded. With mods tho it can look incredible. Also while PC games have better textures/models, higher resolution etc, I've yet to see the fps game that has as much going on on screen at once as kz2.

And some of the squad A.I. behavior is jank.

you can throw flares that cast shadows with flare mod retail user made and it cast shadows better than the flares in alien vs predator 2010 lol.

What I like about Killzone 2 is the detail that's in it, and how even when there is pop-in, it's smooth pop-in instead of abrupt pop-in. Also, the overall physics are excellent. The particle effects are simply amazing in how they actually interact with the environment and how smoke doesn't go through walls. One thing I'm not too crazy about is the film grain and how everything is brown and gray. But it is something I can get over. It's just kind of hard seeing how nice and colorful Uncharted 2 is, then going to the gritty visuals of Killzone 2. It makes me think of the difference between Halo 3 and Gears of War (1).

I don't like it so much as a game, but it really is the most graphically impresive game on the PS3. Too bad it uses QAA, but I guess there were sacrifices to be made. And another thing that puzzles me is why there are so many small rooms, considering the game runs smoothly in open areas ...

serious sam second encounter? serious sam first encounter HD(which got bad reviews on GS because the reviewer is a moron)? the game has 100+ enemies at times with tons of explosions, gunfire and crap going on at the same time and keeps a rock steady 60fps while looking really good

Dude I've played ArmaII and yes its a large scale but it still doesn't convey or show you the intensity that KZ2 does. There is a huge amount of stuff going on in close proximty of you. Its a very intense experience when playing it. Also that ARmaII video could make someone who's hooked on KZ2 go to sleep. If someone is a mile away getting blowin up doesn't do me no good when I don't see it, nor will I count it as it happening on screen. So once again, please show the gent a pc game that has as much stuff going on as KZ2 does.

The environments and texture are exciting, the whole world is alive, much like Demon's Souls, the game has weight, and it imerses you in its world.
