I have seen threads of people trashing PCs, with arguments like "PCs suck look how expensive this Alienware is". So this is a link to three different PCs with prices from Newegg (obviously this is just for US gamers).

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/core-i7-overclock,2116.html

and here are the specs of the other PC they make reference of:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/system-builder-marathon,2056.html

So now that you know more options, what do you think now of PCs? The PCs on the article suck? What would you change in them?

Is PC gaming still to expensive? It sucks and consoles are better? Its way better than consoles? Too complicated?

Discuss.

Pcs are obviously better than consoles. PC gaming IMO is too much of a problem. But, that's just me.

PC gaming will always be superior as far as I'm concerned. The hardware is fairly easy to upgrade, and people can research it the same way they research what console to buy (though usually thats ony done by games). A PC can easily hook up to any type of screen, and use any kind of controller, in combination with several good free online services, it makes no sense to even have consoles, but alas, thats how the world works.

As a PC gamer I think toms hardware is a crappy site and sucks.

Back to the topic though, PC gaming is more expensive thats a simple fact. I just don't think price should be looked at as a negitive thing. If so would any of you console only gamers own a hdtv, sdtvs have to be better they aren't as expensive. Or why buy a ps3 or wii the xbox 360 is the cheapest so its the best.

You get what you pay for, and if you pay the $500-15,000 for a gaming pc you won't be sorry you did it.

The biggest thing though is options. Consoles just don't give me enough options. You pretty much have to take what they give you. I don't like that.

I buy them still, just because as a gamer i can't pass up a good game. Even if that means spending $400 to play it.

As long as you have the funds and the knowledge, PC gaming will always be the better alternative. Its getting cheaper all the time, with the latest high end cards costing £120 (4850) and £100 (9800). These give you HUGE power to price ratio benefit compared to the previous generation of cards in this class.

Whats your promblem GS? its YOUR HTML?!

Its certainly the best platorm in terms of content, but the industry's lack of respect for the end-user (and vice-versa) can turn what should be a relatively simple process (insert disk/download, install, update, play game) into a veritable cluster****.

For a huge amount of PC gamers, PC gaming is actually much cheaper. Think about it. A PC gamer pays a lump sum of money every few months, or year, to upgrade hardware. A console gamer spends at least 50 dollars every month or so for new games. Most PC gamers just download their games, taking out that whole 50 dollars per month aspect.

Let's assume your average console gamer buys one new game every month, costing 60 dollars. And now let's assume the PC gamer spends 280 a year to upgrade his video card and to account for other smaller hardware expenses. It's 130 for one of the NIVIDIA 9600 card, leaving about 150 dollars for the other hardware needs I already mentioned. Finally, let's assume the PC gamer just downloads his games, because let's be realistic, that's what most people do. Several hundred thousand people downloaded Spore, for example, in the first month or so.

With those things in mind, a console gamer will spend 720 dollars on games a year (60 per month), while a PC gamer who downloads could easily get away with 280 a year.

Edited for misstype.

agreed. I used to be hardcore hermit, but then I got fed up with the patches, drivers, hardware upgrades, etc. Then came DRM and I threw in the towel. Now I only use the pc for internet browsing. Plus, I work on a pc all day for a living. The last thing I want to see when I get home is another pc.

Don't care

Less games

Awful control styles (I'm sorry but W-A-S-D seems like a typing course, not controls for my FPS)

Plus the money aspect is moot. If you're playing games and have to worry about money then you picked the wrong hobby. "oh I can make a PC that's only 400 dollars and upgrade the video card in blah blah blah"

No thank you. People can tinker with the new strategy game for Microsoft Works. I don't care if they do, it's just not for me.

I'm in the same boat. I certainly can afford a nice pc, but would rather game on consoles (I own all three). Now that the 360 gets most PC games, I don't really game on the PC, unless its a certain game that I just have to have. Crysis was one of those games. I just have more fun with consoles, and I actually like xbox live much better than gaming online with the PC, its just so much easier with most of my friends on xbox live or psn. I also work with a pc all day and would rather game on a console when i get home.

What about the mouse? Controllers are horrible for FPS games, I thought that was universally agreed upon. Take L4D for example, aiming feels very unnatural on consoles, while it's very smooth and easy on PC.

I normally upgrade my graphics card every year, but I can understand why people wouldn't feel the need to. Even so, you still save several hundred dollars by doing smart PC gaming.

PCs have more games and anyone can connect a controller to it. Any controller can be used, I use a PS2 controller. I don't understand what your trying to say with the money part.

It's just pointing and clicking

If people like it then super duper, more power to them

I point and click at work and type on the keyboard, they're not game controls. They're ways I can work with Photoshop.

If someone gets a kick out of it though then have a ball.

This was a gen for consoles in which a lot of the games failed to interest me. PC back then was originally an alternative but for 2 1/2 years now it's become my primary gaming system. As a person who primarily gamed on consoles for more than a decade, I can comfortably say at this moment that PC gaming is by far superior. But that's just me.

Not as good? You can easily play all PC games you want with a gamepad, and a lot of the gamepads on the PC are much higher quality than their console counterparts. I have one that cools my hands. Booyah.

i think that PCs have the most powerfull hardware, the greater ammount of games and the best games, plus their games are cheaper. But the entry fee is a little above what i can afford right now (in other words i need a new PC)

I paid $400 for my pc and then bought a power supply unit for $100 and then a Nvidia GTX 280 for $340 at tigerdirect.com. I already had a PS3 and Xbox 360 but I needed a computer for school work so why not add a graphics card to it as well? I must say I am very happy with how my games look!!!! Yes they even look better then my consoles.

You do know you can plug a 360/PS3 controler into a pc right? Thats beside the point, KB+M is still the most precise control scheme known to man.

LESS GAMES?????!!!!!?????!!!!!???? WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?im sorry but thats just laughable, you consolites truely don't know squat,

the PC has the MOST games. it gets more multiplats than any other console AND more exclusives AND all games from its past with full BC / emulation. Qauke 2 anyone?Rick dangerous? how about a spot of pac-man?

All you do by disregarding PC gaming without knowing A THING about it is chop off your own arm and beat yourself with it, its futile and the only person who suffers is you.

Depends on what you consider cheap. If you don't have a job, id imagine not much is cheap for you. But for the average American $500 is pretty cheap.

I prefer console games to PC games, that's the biggest one for me. On top of that I enjoy sitting back with my friends and playing games.

[QUOTE="Jaysonguy"][QUOTE="thegoldenpoo"] Jaysonguy there, proving ignorance truly ISN'T bliss. I guess you didn't get the memmo that the PC also plays almost every single console game. They don't call them multiplats for nothing. thegoldenpoo

Don't care

Less games ( lol  )

Awful control **** (I'm sorry but W-A-S-D seems like a typing course, not controls for my FPS)

Show me how you play Mario Galaxy or Ratchet and Clank

No really, I'll wait.

I have come to hate PC's, and not because i own a Mac or i have no love for Microsoft, but because they are the most susceptible to viruses, pop ups, freeze ups and every O.S. that comes out for them is riddled with bugs and problems thereby necessitating patch after patch after patch until it's running smoother.

In my opinion the only thing PC's have over Macs is the size of their game library, Thats all. You can customize and upgrade Mac's on Apple's website to your specifications especially the Mac Pro 8 core tower and in the now 7 years that i have owned various Macs i have never had a problem with pop ups, viruses or freeze ups, and i have no virus software or spyware on my computer because it's never needed.

I have also converted a total of 15 people throughout that 7 years to Mac who were sick of going through the same problems i went through with PC's and there all still thanking me to this day.

So in my opinion the Mac vs PC thing is a lot like the 360 vs PS3 thing just because Windows and 360 got to the worldwide market place first doesn't mean their better than the Mac O.S. or PS3.

both pc and console gaming is great

pc provides obviously an overall higher graphical/resolution level of games, the kb&m which i love for fps, tps, and rts its obviously prefernce but i still find it silly to try playing an fps with dual analog after playing fps's with kb&m most of my life, provide some of my favorite online competitive games of all time in both counter strikes, team fortress 2(im sorry, but its a joke on consoles), and the pc usually does have the dominant multiplats(recently far cry 2, fallout 3, etc), and the hardware side of pc gaming is a hobby for me, not a chore as some people make it to be, i can bust out a gamepad and load up games from nes, snes, ps1, etc;), and as for my setup, im never hunching over my desk playing, i have a nice executive desk and leather chair, and a nice 24" sony gdm-fw900, so its a very comfortable setup for me, plus i have 4 good friends that also pc game that i play online with, or occasionally bring out computers of the ones house and LAN, so having friends to play with aint a problem

but console gaming(overall, not just this gen)does provide another side of gaming that i dont get with pc, i do get to lay back, kick my feet up and relax(although its on my bed since i dont have a couch in my room)i get a majority of my single player gaming on consoles(which unfortuntly there is a lack of focus on this gen, but there is still plaenty there), i get my Jrpgs, my platformers, my action/adventure, all on a nice big tv(although i only have a old 32" tube tv, but it gets the job done for now, and as many people say on here, i just pop it in and play, obviosuly have local multiplayer, and have plenty of exclusives that arent on the pc im interested in

both pc gaming and console gaming are great on their own, but having both is the best you can have

The people constantly attacking PC gaming are just insecure console fanboys trying to rationalize why paying less doesn't mean they get less.

PS3nut

Pop ups are from internets and are usually blocked by the web browser's popup blockers. In the course of using firefox, I almost never see a pop-up.

Viruses are recieved usually from shady websites or bad downloads (torrented files, porn, downloads from bad websites). I almost never recieve them because I'm smart on the internet. Just stay away from torrents and porn and you should be fine. As always, there are multiple anti-virus software that you can download or purchase.

Freeze ups? I almost never encounter freezes and if I do, a simple restart is all that I need.

I find macs to be a bit overpriced and am completely satisfied with my PC.

best gaming platform on the planet bar no exceptions imho. upgradeable, customisable, tinkerable and offers massive choice. its where games can be played, tinkered with and created....its where devs learn their trade and can just go nuts and new business models and ideas are put to the test. it belongs not to one company...but to everyone. no one controls it...no one dictates policy on it.....it is our platform. i enjoy playing games on console also (i have all 3) but if i had to choose between them then i would choose the PC.

PC gaming is great for a large number of reasons. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for PC gamers. I prefer consoles much more, but I still like some games on PC. Plus, it was pretty freaking sweet that my dad got this PC without any gaming in mind, and yet, it can run games like BioShock, The Orange Box, FEAR, and etcetera.

What I dont get is why people think bulding a PC is some hard, super difficult task. Spend an hour doing some research and its like putting together a puzzle, really easy. I also think PC gaming is cheaper because everyone NEEDS a PC, wheather you buy a $500 budget deal from Dell/HP/etc or build a gaming rig for $700, so you are just adding a fractional cost. You can build a very good gaming PC for $500 these days, the same as iff you bought a standard pre-built Lastly, for me personally, I can game while my wife watches her TV and not have to worry about fighting over it.

It's an awesome platform where you can customize virtually everything. I don't think I enjoy it anymore than my 360. Both are amazing and have their pros and cons.

And it really isn't that expensive. I got my current PC for $700 and I won't have to upgrade until maybe 2010.

I have a PC that can play every game, albeit the newer ones don't run so well (only got an 8600gt). The rest of my system is pretty good though (2GB RAM, E2200 OC'd to 2.75 GHz), and I built it for about £250 (budget pc gaming ftw!! :D ) I think PC gaming is pretty good, but I use my 360 more. I should have bought Fallout 3 for the PC instead of my 360 though. Some of the 360 textures are awful. I'm sure my half baked gaming PC could have made it prettier haha.

PC Gaming certainly isn't as expensive as the console fanboys made it out to be. Mine was cheaper than a PS3!! I'd probably rather have the PS3 though :P
