I think it has really fallen short of it's potential. I'd prefer to pay a subscription for better content as it currently leaves me wanting.

Also I hate the region specific content...what's the point of region specific release, when they've already paid to develop the content!!

It's closing the gap on XBL, but still has a ways to go. Awesome service for what you pay which is nothing.

I think it's pretty bad.

And this early adapters excuse is getting old, it's almost 2009.

360 gets money using their service while Sony doesn't get anything that why there is a good difference between the both and also Sony is improving their service and I'm really happy with it :)

Xbox Live is actually $5 a month only if you but the $60 package for the whole year. If you don't it's more expensive...

PSN is just as good as live other than the updates. PSN only updates every week, xbox live is almost everyday. Other than that, they're equal but one is free and the other is not.

When did I say Xbox Life was breaking the bank?

If you think about it the Xbox is more expenisive than the PS3 in the long run and you actually save like 250$ when you buy a PS3 which cost's Sony money but is good for us.

13 Month (12month+1bonus) XBL gold for 44.95 That's actually 3.50$ a month.

*ignores the obvious trolls, and blaitant fanboys*

I think the PSN is slowly showing its true potential. Sony certainly is taking their time getting the ball rolling though. I really can't understand why it took them a year and a half to get in-game XMB, trophies, and custom soundtracks going. And there still isn't a live voice chat option, unless you exit your game.

They are taking BABY steps to get there. I mean, tip-toed, "crippled zombie with leperacy" baby steps. I don't care. Hopefully when Home comes out this year, they'll finally give us the fruits of their labor, and open up the PSN to more customization, faster loading/download times, and hopefully a little more PSN/Game integration. (I'm looking at YOU Konami.)

We'll see. But overall, the PSN is at the very least, reliable. Particularly when it comes to games. That, and, you really can't beat the price. IMO a console (well, the manufacturer of the console) charging to play multiplayer (which is nowadays half or more of a games content usually) is complete milkage, and I refuse to patronize such acts. be it $4 a month, $15 a month, or 10 cents a month.

Sony has the right idea IMO. put up a few adds here and there (just don't overdo it), supply tons of microtransactions, it's all good IMO. As long as the microtransactions aren't an instant win button for online, or something that is going to cripple gameplay. Or like... "for $50 you can kill someone in home by one of 3 clever choices, strangulation, evisceration (bare hands!), or bar fight!" lol. as fun as that sounds.. no.

When compared to Xbox live i must say it is bad.But the good thing about it is that its completely 100% free. And also i never had any problem with mine.Mostly play GTA IV and even though it isnt a multiplayer game,i never fell short of players.

I like the PSN, especially since the in-game XMB. I cant believe we ever had to play on the PS3 without it. Anyway, it's free and functional, and the stableness of it matches XBox Live, or at least from my experinces with both.

The biggest difference for me about Live was the functionality of cross game voice chat and game invites. Game invites are awesome. But, Live costs $50 and the PSN is free.

So to me, it all evens out in the end I guess... but I prefer free. lol.

If everyone used that asinine ideology, then people would charge for every single thing, saying "Oh, it's $1 a month!" and then, look at all the things you have to pay.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: XBOX Live is a rip off. The internet is like the electricity bill. You pay in order to get power. Now, you buy a light bulb. That's your game. You don't pay to put the light bulb on and use it, the use is covered by electricity. Now, gaming wise, you use the internet to go online. You buy a game (light bulb). $60. Everything in that should cover compensation to developers, publishers, and money to keep the servers up for online. You know how much money publishers make a year? Billions! XBOX Live just is an unnecessary charge. PSN is an amazing service. It's free. That's why I bought a PS3, not a 360.

It still needs work.regardless of what people say it's still a network that has anemic updates and none of it's features work with all of Sony's games. More standardization of PSN features across all games would be welcome. The voice chat in most games is horrid.

PSN has game invites. Just not cross-game invites. Open in-game XMB, tell your friend "Come to COD4 and play" and he comes. Press start, go to "Invite Friends" and sent them an invite. In games like Warhawk where there is no invite system, you tell your friend on in-game XMB messaging "Come to Warhawk". He comes, goes to the friends list, and goes to your name, and clicks "Join Game" and joins you. There's a method of joining in EVERY game. Just not cross-game. Not a big deal since it's no hassle but just telling your friend to come to a certain game if you want to play with them. Pretty much every game has a method of inviting a friend to a game.

No, I said Message your friend to join COD4, and when he joins the game, you can send him an invite. Not a big deal. I'm saying if you message a friend via in-game XMB to come to a game, and they come, they have a way of joining, whether it's game invites, or joining via clicking on your name and clicking "Join Game" in the Community sections of games. There's always a way though when you both play the same game. If he's playing GTA IV and you're playing COD4, you message him through in-game XMB tell him to "Come to COD4 for a GameBattles" and he comes. You invite him in two seconds, bam, done. And that was all free.

Oh yeah, I knew that. But that's not as simple as clicking a friend's name, and clicking "send invite" and them just "accepting invite" and then being in your game instantly. As long as they were playing the same game ya know.

It's not a big deal, just saying.

XBL is a much more guided experience in that it has the cross game invites, a community calendar of events, full-featured profile pages on the console as well as on Xbox.com, and highly visible community-focused personnel.

In its present state, PSN still feels very solitary. You're pretty much left on your own once you log on.

Fanboys can make all the excuses they want for PSN it is still vastly inferior to XBOX Live. I gladly pay for XBOX Live and have never once thought about the 50 dollars a year.

As far as the interface goes, PSN is waaay better than XBLM right now, but XBLM has more content. PS3 is taking a "quality over quantity" approach which I believe is a mistake. Let me choose what I want to play. I also like how MS forces devs in making demos for XBLA games, but I understand why Sony doesnt. Although just having superfluous crap on their is not a good thing either, like MS delisting some games trying to compensate for their horrific storefront. Overall both are good, but XBL has been around a lot longer and is much more mature, so it obviously is better at this stage in the game.

PSN has come a LONG WAY since the PS3 launched.

But its still a way off being comparable to Live.

I don't play wow for that reason and plenty people complain about that price.

So you don't see anything wrong with paying $60 for a game and then pay extra to play content you already paid for? (and its $5 a month, $8 for me in europe)

But you didn't answer my question. What's the limit? When will you take up a principle and say that its just too much to pay to play online? I'd like a number (seriously interested in the answer, not trying to push you in a corner or something. I just hate the "its only xx a month" argument).

It's not as good as live, but at the same time it's kinda better in a proportional sense because PSN gives you more for free than live does for $50... if you know what i mean. :P

2.4 killed my PS3. If you call Sony they'll fix it up for you though. Mine works smooth as butter now. :)

The only complaint I have against PSN is the organization of some content.

Besides that, no complaints from me, besides having to install demos, but that is more PS3 than PSN.

Fanboys can make all the excuses they want for PSN it is still vastly inferior to XBOX Live. I gladly pay for XBOX Live and have never once thought about the 50 dollars a year.Khansoul

Only fanboys think Live is still vastly superior. There are a lot of things that Sony is doing right with PSN. Both are great services and offer things the other doesn't. For example PSN has support for bigger online games, like Resistance, Warhawk, Resistance2, and in the future MAG. PSN supports remote access thru PSP, PSN supports an internet browser, PSN doesn't limit developers with a download cap, PSN let's everyone get demos day one, etc....

Or like... "for $50 you can kill someone in home by one of 3 clever choices, strangulation, evisceration (bare hands!), or bar fight!" lol. as fun as that sounds.. no.

Right, I refuse to pay a cent for online games since I play them on my PC & PS3 for free (PC best). Plus, I usually live 5~7 years with a console which means I'll have to pay around $240~$335 + the price of the 360, and that is higher than the PS3 price. And as you said online is about 50% or more of todays games...

Xbox Live is actually $5 a month only if you but the $60 package for the whole year. If you don't it's more expensive...

PSN is just as good as live other than the updates. PSN only updates every week, xbox live is almost everyday. Other than that, they're equal but one is free and the other is not.

TMurphy28

ummm xbl and psn get same updates, the difference is most demos will come out 2 days earlyer on xbl.

as 2 days really wont make or break me, because i dont care enough for multiplat demos.

howevr i personally just found a new reason why to love psn more.

Before (cheak old posts
)i would have said xbl is better. But game sharing (completely LEGAL, and recomended by sony) changed all that.. Now me and my friends share games and it really makes things cheaper..

plus 50 bucks a year for in game voice chat to another person and cross game invites...well..idn seems kinda expensive, and homes getting that, so its all good :P
