Today's FPS wars are yesterday's Bit wars. Today's resolution comparison's are yesterday's sprite size comparison's. No one complained about Starfox's Frame rate on the Snes nor did we complain about what resolution the Dreamcast had. The bit wars morphed into the polygon wars, then the shadow/lighting wars and now the FPS and resolution wars.
What do you think the next hot debates over consoles will be about? VR tech? A.I./physics processing in reaction to our voice?...think Seaman on DC or Cortana. Open source vs proprietary? Cross device communication tech? Something else? Or do you think the FPS/resolution will always be the most prominent in debates between gaming systems despite the historical evolution of what hardware features gamers found to be important?
