What do you want from the next Xbox?

They need a powerful console and they need to greatly improve their 1st party studios.

I wouldn't consider any of their 1st party studios right now to be great. 343i and The Coalition need to be allowed to do something other than Halo and Gears. We don't need Forza games at the rate we're getting them now. Buy Remedy and expand the team to be closer to Naughty Dog size. Open a 1st party studio in Japan and hire more Japanese developers to make games. Ideally all those Hololens studios they created will be expanded and will make actual games.

Just another example of why Playstation fans are the most putrid and hated fanbase. Assuming someone else took the Xbox's place, you would immediately shift your attention to hating anything and everything about the new brand. Why? Because Playstation fans are by far the most insecure group on the internet and see everything as a threat. Pretty sad when an entire fanbase has to live in fear over a video game console :/

To improve their first party. To be fair, they're working on that this gen, and hopefully it'll go well (it's looking like it might). I just hope they have a few more established first party franchises to fall back on next gen, especially if Halo, Gears and Forza keep going the way they have been.

You realize that 360 and xone both have similar esoteric memory designs? The people that are claiming its more complex to work with are sony fanboys.. the level of complexity hasn't really changed between esram and edram, and both systems using directx.

- The controller is good enough, the elite has better shoulder buttons though.

- the esram is great, the xboxone uses less power than the ps4 and sometimes matches it performance , sometimes even best it.

- Xbox one is a good enough name

Why would they abandon the xboxone, the system is selling good enough. The only reason they might release an xboxone sooner is to be ahead of sony, not because the xboxone is not selling well. The xboxone is selling pretty good only the ps4 sells better.

For them to go open hardware, that is to move to PC and actually support it unlike the dreaded "games for Windows"., make their own steambox equivalent or something, A custom Windows shell with game store, let gamers choose their hardware tier that they are willing to pay. Their just limiting themselves and their customers imo.

Hypothetically, if the next Xbox was powerful (more than Ps5) had custom soundtracks, still had physical games and they invested in real exclusives, i'd get one.

Windows 10, Kinect 3, Hololens support (greater than just Windows 10 streaming), Cross play/ buy between Xbox and W10 (Xbox app).

The transition should be smoother , don't remove incredibly popular features like custom background soundtracks for example.

For me it would be dependant on what the Xbox One looks like in 2 or 3 more years. Right now MS hasn't 'turned the Xbox One around' however they've set it on the right direction. I can't say what it should look like until I see what fruits this new direction bring it.

I will say that I think next gen consoles should be sold at a loss or become streaming devices though, to solve the lack of any useful specs. Current consoles are weak because of the budget costs.

@commander: On the 360 you could play your own music instead of the game's OST. It was an incredibly popular feature that is still missing from its successor today.

@charizard1605: If MS wants me to jump into another console early because of their shortcomings, there next console must be 100% BC to the Xbox One, games, accessories, controllers etc shit just let me buy a new box with a beefy hardware upgrade and call it a day.

Good question. A box that's is ahead of its time technologically and not something already outdated like our current consoles. Good original 1st party games and not games series that aren't being developed by their original developers. Free online mp. No kinect or hololens controls. A lot of new ips and give current franchises a little breathing room. Allow the X1 to have its own identity by giving it exclusives I can't buy on pc a few months to a year later.

Ditto. Never been an Xbox fan. However, he's been saying the right things and helping MS make the right moves to have me interested. Keep up their goodwill with their next gen, and I could consider getting an Xbox.

I want a special edition, more expensive console with full hardware backwards compatibility for the original XBox, the 360, and the One built in. If it's $200 more expensive, no big loss to MS, it's a special edition console, they can manufacture as little as they need.

I can agree with most of this except the part where you state MS 1st party studios are not great. MS studios are great but MS needs more studios especially in Japan and MS needs to allow them to operate with Artistic Liberty. you can't lockdown an artist and tell them this is what you have to do. Give devs freedom to bring new ideas to life. Locking down devs to only one game is stifling creativity. Also believe MS should make full use of Rare's franchises.

I want a $550 - $600 Console with Zero gimmicks included. Give us the best Hardware at cost that $550 - $600 can buy. I'm ok with paying more for better hardware and MS should accept that the PlayStation brand is the more popular brand. MS should focus on getting the Hardcore gamers first. If MS does this and Sony launches at $400 the next Xbox could possibly be 2X - 3X more powerful than the PS5. Sure MS won't get all the casuals but I think they would get tons of core gamers this way.

Q: What do you want from the next Xbox?

A: For it not to exist. Just release all games on PC. Consoles are a waste.

Off the top of my head, there are a few things I'd like the next Xbox to improve or refine.

- More relative horsepower. This generation had been the first where Microsoft's offering was not technically superior to its competition. I believe this has had a significant impact on early adopter / "hardcore" enthusiasm (or lack thereof) for the brand.

- Refined user interface. There are many ways in which the X1's latest UI could be improved. In particular I'd like to see the "media player" functionality tightened up. The One Guide has the potential to be a really useful streaming / OTA / cable content aggregrator, but falls short.

- Better D-pad. I'm not sure who thinks a clicky d-pad is a good idea, but I am not one of those people. The best d-pads are quiet, smooth, and accurate. Speaking of legendary d-pads, could someone out there graft a JPN / US Mark 2 Saturn d-pad onto the X1 controller for me?

There's more, of course, but I've run out of steam. Microsoft's X1 is a good console, in part because the underdog position had made them hungry, but it could definitely do with some improvements.
